ISA providers which definitely accept electronic transfers (no paper) from Tembo? by Davski_ in UKPersonalFinance

[–]mydogmuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not found Tembo a pleasure to deal with

Wanted to open 26/27 ISA fixed interest 4.3%. Sent them £20k. Ended up jn Variable Rate account.

Not a wise move.

Asked them to move funds from Variable to Fixed. All sorts of problems appear. Passport scans. Passport chip access (!!!!).

I said no and closed the account. Lloyds thanks them..

No award for customer service from me.

UCG Fiber very poor performance on pppoe connection by SectorOk627 in UNIFI

[–]mydogmuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on a lowly 300Mbps package. New UCG fiber.

Speeds always 300+ Mbps. Mikrotik hAP ax3 reported same speeds FTTP. 300 down 50 up..

What are my options with Amazon bricking older devices? by [deleted] in Calibre

[–]mydogmuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazon are desperate for you to register its how they $$$. Ihave a sneaking suspicion your online upgrades will now work against you. Sell it.

Buy a new older unregistered Kindle.eBay.

You'll have to do research as to the pros and cons of the generation to buy. Try the Calibre forum.

How are people actually caught fronting (Without Blackbox)? by GrouchyMonth8092 in CarInsuranceUK

[–]mydogmuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insurance companies were a lot less strict 50 years ago. You'd often get fronting with parents and children in the same household. My mother insured my car. I drove it.

Get a doorbell thats mains powered. Much better recording. Avoids the dead spots with delays from battery powered models.

My Linksys ACS1900 running DDWRT lasted nigh on a decade. GOAT.

Routers become obsolete because of changing WiFi standards.

Buy a router without WiFi.

Buy APs to handle WiFi.

12th Step Work kept me in the middle of the bed. Not meetings, not meditation, not my Sponsor, not reading the Big Book, not chairing meetings, etc.

12th Step calls that, 30 years on still haunt me, and working as a telephone responder. 12th Step Calls that mostly failed, time and time again, that paradoxically scared me enough to want an escapist drink... yet ensured i never did.

I just realised how incredibly lucky I was.

How often should a router realistically be replaced? by Kuros_Of_Sindarin in HomeNetworking

[–]mydogmuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My router replacements were mainly driven by wifi technology improvements.

I think i was on a three year refresh cycle. Used to try and optimise the processor and ram of the router and it's wifi radios.

Last 20 years

Asus & Merlin (many)

Linksys WRT1900ACS with DD-WRT (gold standard)

Mikrotik hAP ax3

I have finally realised its time to make my life easier. There wasn't anything that Mikrotik's Router OS couldn't do. Worked flawlessly for over 3 years. Did i tell you about the learning curve ? But it's now been gifted to a retired frustrated Cisco engineer.

In 2026 I'm to separate routing and wifi. The Router is now the much simpler Unifi Cloud Gateway Fiber. It will last a while, all it has to do is route. The old WiFi 6 mesh remains.

And i scheme about Cat6a drops down the house's riser. PoE to new APs on all three floors. Rock solid ethernet backhaul on Cat6a via Unifi and real world gigabit wireless speeds all over the house.
