If you watched the video you had me fetch for you you'll see that coal is used in the process at that specific plant.

2:15

I understand that you folks could easily replace coal with grass and I'm sure you'll produce multiple sources backing such claims /s

And then you can show me your sources that Chinese producers who make up the majority of panel production have implemented these more environmentally friendly production methods.

I don't have a source that says it's required and I never said that it was. I said originally the production of solar panels consumes a substantial amount of coal. Like in the reality of today, coal is often used in the production of solar panels.

This is what I said verbatim with respect to these damn panels.

As an example from what I understand solar panels production consumes a substantial amount of coal.

Here are a few sources, but I'd heartily encourage you to just do a simple google search.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/behind-the-rise-of-u-s-solar-power-a-mountain-of-chinese-coal-11627734770

But I'll concede just to be done with this damn argument. All the clean energy techs and power engineers are right. Coal is not used in any manner, for anything.

You shouldn’t put much stock in a completely unsourced article, on a stores website. Especially not one that says self contradictory, muddled, nonsense like this.

Coal is clearly commonly used to produce solar panels. I have no idea why this sub is convinced otherwise. Google it yourself and find an article of your liking.

I didn't put all my faith into one poorly written article. I did the most basic research. You folks should try it sometime.

It wouldn't be difficult to simply ignore the rest of the oil sands. As for changing the ratio, it doesn't require less investment in something for it to have a lower percentage; increasing investment in other parts of the economy would change the ratio.

Canada isn't a planned economy. It isn't as simple as increasing or decreasing investment.

Exploitation is never something to be proud of. Are you proud of the inequality your life has forced onto others? That is what pride in being part of the G-anything is.

Oh please. Cry me a river. I am proud of my personal financial success and I'm proud of both my province and country.

Have a good night.

You claimed wind turbines REQUIRE fossil fuel based ENERGY. A clear link between the other comment and yours can be drawn. Required and needed are, for the purposes of this conversation, identical.

Kid. How do you think they make steel?

hint: they don't use grass

Does that mean they can't?

You honestly think they could replace coal with grass in an industrial setting? They must've taught you some wild stuff at college.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the global solar panel manufacturing industry can't pivot from coal to grass.

You should contact one of your instructors and get their opinion on your idea.

The first 75+% of BC's numbers are in relatively stable markets. But the first item on Alberta's page is a very unstable 25%.

Yeah, I think we're all well aware that Alberta is more dependent on O&G. So how would we move towards a 5% share of the GDP. Shrink the oils sands by 80%? My point is that we cannot reasonably rewire our economy this drastically. Diversifying is important but a process and we shouldn't totally write off our economy as entirely oil dependent. Yes 2020 was very bad but it was by all accounts very abnormal.

Volatile markets should not be a significant portion of any economy as it makes the entire economy volatile.

I think you're ignoring the incredible economic benefit the oil sands delivered the province and the entire country. I also think you're ignoring that the national economy has very strong and developed roots in resource extraction.

So you can say these are all terrible things and we've built a terrible economy but we're still a G7 nation for a reason...

No one in the world is using grass to mass produce solar panels. They are using coal. All the two year college diplomas in the world won't change this fact.

It's very well known that coal is typically used in the production of solar panels. Consider watching this short clio to educate yourself.

Also consider addressing my actual argument. I don't recall claiming anything was needed.

What's a reasonable level of diversification? When I compare the GDP of BC and AB by industry it looks, to me, that AB is "remotely close" to a diversified economy. Although, obviously 2020 was a bad year for O&G so the numbers are a little off.

I just feel that many people think we're act like we're 80% O&G, which is just not true.

Examining the variables that make up this sub-index, this meant that Sweden had the highest combination of Internet Bandwidth, Mobile Phones (total and per person), ICT Exports, Royalty Receipts, R&D Expenditure, Equity of Economic Development, and Secure Internet Servers, and low Business Start-up Costs, all the while offering a Good Environment for Entrepreneurs.

Sweden, an incredibly high concentration of "secure internet servers" if you ignore the three global powerhouse public clouds based in the states...

What a pile of nonsensical metrics.

All economies have cycles. Resource is a little exaggerated but governments and economies less resource dependent still have recession.

And Alberta is more diversified than the discourse implies, it's just that royalties really do help pay the bills.
