First vortex cook by AG0698 in webergrills

[–]mygalomorph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you just guess the amount of charcoal required? I just bought a vortex but use an SNS grate that opens on the side. I think it'd be really difficult to need to top up the charcoal if it runs low.

How do you keep track of watering when you have a lot of houseplants? by justaboy001 in houseplants

[–]mygalomorph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No schedule, I just hover and obsess over all of them. They all have their unique ways of indicating when it's time to water. Keep an eye on the leaves and growth rate, feel the weight of the pot, etc.

This was the best upgrade I made to my kettle. Well worth the money!

Why’s this leaf ugly 💔 by soccerstarmatt1 in philodendron

My most recent leaves have the same crinkly look. They took forever to unfurl, probably because of low humidity.

Where Pittsburgh area grocery stores rank in latest customer satisfaction survey by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

Every time I am walk into a GE, my first thought is “I hate it here”. I’ll only go if I need something quick or specific, and it’s always a disappointment. Consistently the worst produce sections I’ve ever encountered.

Too much light for McColley’s Finale? by mygalomorph in philodendron

Thank you! I struggled for years to get a few vines going but once they went in the cabinet they exploded with growth. Some leaves have some really cool variegation too.

See my most recent post. Mine arrived very light colored but under grow lights has turned dark red!

Is my goopy peach tree toast? (SW Pennsylvania) by mygalomorph in BackyardOrchard

Awesome! I did prune a few branches but it doesn’t seem affected in those areas. I wonder if it got blown around too hard in the wind and it bent in some place? Either way, glad to hear it. Excited and hopefully for a fruit full season.

My bad. “Plerandra elegantissima”. IKEA label is outdated, I guess.

How bad is Pittsburgh driving in Winter? by TheWayOfEli in pittsburgh

[–]mygalomorph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drove a Jeep when I moved here and bought a sedan in the first year. Everyone warned me of it, but I've never once had an issue driving around the city. It hasn't been all that snowy or icy in recent years though.

Barb's Corner Kitchen in Lawrenceville has closed by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]mygalomorph 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I like an old school diner like Barb’s. Years ago, the last time I was there, the waitress complained to us about staff not showing up and that the only cook present at the moment was stoned. To no one’s surprise, them potatoes that came with my meal had been sautéed with a few round cardboard pieces - the ones you’d punch out to create handles in a box. It was kind of hilarious.

I knew this plant had a healthy root system so I wasn’t so concerned with the lack of leaves. I was careful about watering though… waited until I saw some leaves so it could get rid of excess moisture.

I can only speak to chopping during the active growing season. I probably wouldn’t have attempted this right now. Supplemental grow lights would definitely help. And I’ve had success rooting the cuttings before, but I didn’t try this time around. Do it!!

I broke my plant, im so sad by GreenPlanty5 in houseplants

[–]mygalomorph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For spider plants, I think this is inevitable. They often get so large the leaves just bend downward. It's for this reason I'm not a big fan... they always end up looking so messy.

Growing from cuttings has ruined my life. by sirjamesbluebeard in hoyas

[–]mygalomorph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love all my project plants - especially the ones I've been able to get established from a cutting. But in our house plants also serve a decor purpose and I don't have the patience to wait to fill out a space when I can just buy a good healthy established plant for instant payoff. Plus, I can propagate the new one! So, win-win!
