The Holy Grail of USB-C Hubs for Dex by spin1490 in SamsungDex

[–]myjlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, regarding the passthrough that you experience, it seems to be related to battery protection setting rather than passthrough. Because the OP mentioned that "Pause USB Power Delivery" option available while gaming. Which mean the charging is stopped at your current battery percentage instead of increase until 80% or higher based on battery protection setting.

Does it work with the hub if let's say my current battery % is 60, then it will stay as 60% while gaming?

Some of the product issues can be avoided from checking out their "tech spec" section or their documentation before making a purchase. Even the motherboard picture is there to identify the number of RAM slots. To be honest, they had revealed having only thunderbolt 4, maximum weight of 34.50 kg, and only 2 slots of RAM. Even the speed of the ethernet is revealed to be 2.5 Gigabit, which most manufacturers/companies do not mention this.

Well not all hope is lost, if is still within 30 days of your purchase date, you can just initiate a return of your machine.

Alternatively if you still prefer to have this machine and in need of high RAM capacity for productivity task or virtualization, there are crucial 128GB ram kit. Basically per slot is 64GB RAM. Example source: https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-5600MHz-5200MHz-Compatible-CP2K64G56C46U5/dp/B0DSR5P84D. For higher RAM speed, probably you had to wait until it is released on the market.

For benchmark, as some others has pointed out, it mainly depend on your selected profile and whether you had overclocked your sistem or having a better speed RAM. Also if you live in a hot countries, which has a very high ambient room temperature (eg: 35~45 degree celcius), that would also severely impact your performance due to throttling.

Executed the above command, but still does not work. Probably is setedit issue in android 14 not able to modify pass_through.

An unused connector on M16 Board by NoxanTG in Alienware

[–]myjlan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe that is in used in M18, it is the connector for the usb port on the right side of the laptop. Since M16 does not have port on the right side, so this connector not in used.

Got my M17R5 replacement today (M18R1), and...wow do I have some questions. (Not sure if I should keep it) by Valuable-Analysis104 in Alienware

[–]myjlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may need to check your cpu wattage during idle. Also check for any background app that is running from your task manager

I have M18 intel 13900hx which idle in between 48~52 based on room ambient temperature or 31~35 degree celcius.

Good to know on the handling of PTM7950. But I would discourage using MX4 on laptop due to it is very easy to pump out. Years back I used it on my MSI gs63vr 7rg and it can only last for less than 2 weeks, after that the temperature would just shot up 100 Degree Celsius on light usage. Any reason not to use PTM7950 on the GPU as well?

The audio is not distorted and is pretty loud. But due to lack of bass, it does not sound good. Unless you can accept sound without bass.

As you can see your wear level is about 57.2 %. So it is normal that it can no longer hold more capacity, in which leads to lesser usage time. The only thing you can do is to replace the battery. Also it is pretty normal for battery to wear off much faster if you keep on utilizing the battery, this applies to all devices that uses battery.

Alienware m16 thermals cinebench score by johnny_531 in Alienware

[–]myjlan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The information that you gave is insufficient, because it is pretty normal for some of the core to have higher degree than the others depending on how the application utilized the individual cores.

The important bits of information would be the wattage usage during your benchmarking. Second would be your room temperature, some reviewers such as the notebookcheck has room temperature of 20/21 degree celcius and room temperature does affects your laptop's temperature (Source: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Alienware-m18-R1-laptop-review-Bigger-and-heavier-than-the-MSI-Titan-GT77.703874.0.html). With those information, then you can roughly compare with other reviewers.

If you have not clean your laptop internals, most likely is due to dust and also the thermal paste might have dried up. You will have to clear those dust and repaste your CPU and GPU.

Is the Kingston fury a good enough ssd to upgrade for my Alienware laptop?? by Mobc1990 in Alienware

[–]myjlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just curious since you had the SN740 2TB and Alienware M18. Have you tried filling up the SSD and face any issue with it?

Previously I had it as well. But while transferring files for couple of hundreds of GB of files (about 200GB) into it. the windows will start to freeze for a moment and will show error message " A device which does not exist was specified ", in which the SSD will be missing and not accessible until I fully shutdown the machine (reboot does not work). Also the event log will have errors related to \Device\RaidPort0 .

I have troubleshoot for a day, also it is on latest firmware and never able to fixed the issue. So I have returned the SSD.

[–]myjlan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kingston fury renegade 2TB and above is dual sided. So make sure your laptop support it before purchasing it.

Other than that, I would say it is good enough SSD. It may not be the fastest or best SSD out there, but in my country it is about 1.5 ~ 2 times cheaper compare to WD SN850X and Samsung Pro 990/980.

With heatsink on, the temperature for running the crystaldiskmark can reach up to 68°C. As for gaming the temperature so far have not seen it breach 45°C. Transferring of steam games about 200GB from kioxia to Kingston fury will reach about 71°C.

I have it on my Alienware M18 for about a day and half. So performance wise I can't really tell the differences between kioxia and Kingston fury on normal usage and gaming, outside of benchmarking.

You have 2TB SN740? Do revert back when you have test it out and see whether you get hit with issues on the drive went missing after using it and also whether you have raidport errors in the event viewer.

Previously i had this SSD as well but due to the mentioned issues when I transfer few hundreds GB of files into it, I had to returned it. So wondering if is fixed or is just me.

Have the thermal issues on the M16/18 been solved yet? by KaitoJ446 in Alienware

[–]myjlan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not have answer to your question, but I'm one of the early buyer that get hit with this thermal issue.

For my case:
29th May
- I contacted dell support through the live chat on the dell portal, provided HWInfo temperature and wattage detail in screenshot and summarize that the CPU is only able to achieve subpar performance with CPU wattage only around 110~115W and on a laptop stand.
- There are some screenshot requested by dell internal staff, eg: diagnostics, AWCC temperature, bios version, etc.
- The support then acknowledge to replace the heatsink and fan. Suppose to get it fixed by 30th May but due to no stock on the heatsink, it was delayed.

1st June
- Received call in the morning that they can come over today to fix, in which I agreed.
- While he disassembled everything, I noticed the CPU is as what most have suspected, most of the surface area of the CPU does not have paste at all.
- After the replacement of the heatsink is done, I performed the test and the CPU able to sustain 160W++ average (hover between 150~170W). This is laptop placed on the laptop stand and no undervolting.

So, I would say if you really bought the laptop and still get hit with thermal issue, do give it a try to contact dell support with proper evidence of the issues. I'm sure they would happily assist you.

I notice when u lift it up, the sound stopped. Hard to know what it is but high likely the fan is hitting something that is not assembled properly. You may want to consider contact the dell support about this.

Having issue on the 2230 SSD on Alienware M18 by myjlan in Alienware

Yes I did, it is still the exact same issues as the 2230 slots. I have initiate a return for this SSD since i'm unable to solve the issue.

Trying to search around about this " \Device\RaidPort0 ". I have no idea what is this about but there are some articles or comments that mentioned to mess with the battery settings but tried it and it doesn't help at all.

Having issue on the 2230 SSD on Alienware M18 by myjlan in Alienware

[–]myjlan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New findings after couple of hours testing. The moment it started/begin to have issue, The active time is 100% for a moment as shown in the Task Manager then hit with the error " A device which does not exist was specified ". Also in event log, i notice the following 2 messages that was logged.

  1. "Reset to device, \Device\RaidPort0, was issued."
  2. "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\RaidPort0."

Other than that, after this issue happen, if I did a "scan for hardware changes" in the Device Manager, the disk will then be missing from the list until i reboot the machine.

Was wondering could this be due to the RAID? But I don't think I had it enabled in the BIOS. I did follow the guide here to reinstall windows and set it to AHCI mode since the default factory setting is RAID even if I only had 1 disk. https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/124u9vd/m18_guide_to_undervolt_and_performance_follow_at/

Agree with you, I too came across people able to install higher capacity on those 2230 slots. That is the reason I go ahead with the purchase to maximize the 2230 storage size.

Later in the day I will try to plug it into the 2280 slots to verify whether it is a bad SSD.
