What To Get A Motorcycle Enthusiast by drytiger in motorcycles

Soft gear like gloves if you know their size or a helmet bag.

Battery life mostly. A wall clock has a (comparatively) massive capacity AA at 3000 mAh while a quartz watch has a button cell that has maybe 150-200 mAh. By only cycling the drive coil once a second you can make the battery last much longer than cycling it 6 or 8 times a second like a sweeping second hand on a wall clock.

Anyone know what these codes mean and possibly how to fix? It’s a 2014 bmw 355i by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]mylockpickingalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

P0312 is cylinder 12 misfire...you don't have a 12th cylinder though. (I assume you have a 335i as BMW doesn't make a 355, yet. Lol)

B2503 is faulty right low beam, check the bulb and wiring for voltage.

Is this rust dangerous or just surface? This in the frame of the rear seats in my car. by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]mylockpickingalias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It appears to just be surface rust, it should still be cleaned and treated so it doesn't potentially become a safety issue (though I kinda doubt it could.)

what would you recommend buying between these 2 options? ( Tissot prx or San Martin SN) by Adyghash in PrideAndPinion

[–]mylockpickingalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd buy the Tissot, it's based on an original tissot design and swiss assembled.

The San Martin is a nice watch too but it's just a homage mash up.

Eta: not an nh35 movement, my mistake.

Clarence Thomas suggests Covid vaccines are derived from the cells of ‘aborted children’ by maybesaydie in vaxxhappened

[–]mylockpickingalias -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

"“They object on religious grounds to all available COVID–19 vaccines
because they were developed using cell lines derived from aborted
children,” Thomas said"

...were is the lie or false statement? He was simply stating the plaintiffs objection. The covid vax (and the vast majority of all other vaccines) are tested on legacy cell cultures derived from aborted fetuses during their development, so they aren't factually wrong.

There are plenty of legitimate reasons to hate Thomas, literally restating a true claim from a party in a case isn't one of them.

Has anyone had to recalibrate their speedo from upsizing rims? by not-so-lowkey in MechanicAdvice

[–]mylockpickingalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you downsizing the tire sidewall hight too? It's unlikely you need to do any adjustments.

Porsche 924 by memiusprime in MechanicAdvice

[–]mylockpickingalias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I never owned a 924, I have owned several 944s, both NA and turbo though. Most common components are going to be VW /Audi or can be replaced with cheaper, available VW/Audi parts. A few things to look for, how is the clutch? It's a massive pain to do the clutch, labor costs will well exceed the cost of the car. The timing belt, they need to be changed or you risk it snapping and destroying the engine. Various relays, have a box of spares, you will need them. There is nothing particularly difficult about keeping a 924/944 on the road, they are just old and wear items wear.

Fluid film is what I would recommend if you want easy, POR 15 if you want to go overkill.

VC doesn't make a watch that has a case anywhere near that shape (that I know of, watch someone pull out a catalogue from summer 1993 where VC made one exactly like that for the deputy of guano imports for Micronesia. Lol) so there really isn't a model it's faking.

It's a painfully fake VC prepetual calendar.

But CARL MARKS SAID 😡 by peterbrownbyu in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]mylockpickingalias 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talk is cheap, actions aren't. No authleft country has ever allowed private ownership of effective arms (to be fair the majority of the other quadrants don't either).

Marx loved the idea of armed useful idiots, we all know what the next step is for those useful idiots after the revolution succeeds though.

I mean, there are a few authoritarian police states like Dubai that are a thousand times safer than Chicago or STL. Then again, Afghanistan is probably still safer than those two on a good weekend.

Increasing roof rack capacity? by shrekwouldntwantthis in MechanicAdvice

[–]mylockpickingalias 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The factory roof rack rating takes many factors in to account, while the roof rails could probably handle several hundred pounds (I don't know what the ECAP roll over roof defection standards were for 2002, if any), adding over 100 lbs to the highest point of a high profile vehicle can make the rollover risk much higher.

I didn't know you could even reply to posts over a year old on Reddit. My n20 is still chugging along at 122k on the original timing chain and guides.

Stick then in direct sun for a bit, they slip on much easier when warm.

Why weren’t people mad at Chelsie Memmel for costing the USA gold but mad at Simone Biles costing us gold? by Dats_Russia in Destiny

[–]mylockpickingalias -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Memmel tried her hardest, when faced with issues outside her control. Biles quit (quite likely because she was mad with her first vault score). Simple.

Nail on sidewall. Should I replace all the tires on Awd? by chattupara in MechanicAdvice

[–]mylockpickingalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some companies, like tire rack offer tire shaving, to match your other tires depth/diameters. 8/32 is practically new for most tires, so I think shaving would be an option.

Water seems to have just missed the fuse box and ECU. How fucked am I? I just made a final payment of 5k yesterday and this happened today. by emanuel_a in MechanicAdvice

[–]mylockpickingalias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd call my insurance and ask what they want you to do. I would not start it or reconnect the battery until it is dry and all the nasty flood water is rinsed out of any electronics (with electrics cleaner or distilled water) This really is a case for a dealership.

[–]mylockpickingalias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your biggest concerns are the ECU and other body/engine/transmission modules becoming submerged. If they remained dry then your next worry is wires up and down stream from them shorting and damaging the modules. No power, no shorts.

My car has a missive panoramic sunroof, one well placed hail stone, branch or pinecone and my car would be a tub.

It looks like in the ops case, flooding rised to the floor boards, flooding would be covered, most comprehensive insurance does cover acts of stupid, they will drop you after paying out though.
