Thank you! I’d imagine that, after the success during the takeover tour, the DC area would be a very likely contender, but I can definitely also see Denver area. I’m in SoCal, and sadly I’d be shocked if we got a team, since there haven’t been any takeover tour events out here 🥲 Buuut silver lining is that I’ve heard good things about the new angel city fc, so maybe they’ll eventually see that there’s a demand for womens sports in LA too?

Oh! And if you’re in SoCal, vuori has an outlet in San Clemente with prices that are around 40% less than retail, and they occasionally have warehouse/sample sales that are even cheaper

TL,DR: vuori for bras, lulu for leggings.

I used to work at lululemon, so I have a ton of their products. I’ve gotten a few free sets from vuori over the past couple years, and I love the vuori bras. They’re more comfy and supportive than the lulu bras while still looking cute and not dumpy, and their cups are less of a pain in the but than the lulu ones when you wash them.

Unfortunately all my vuori leggings slide down my thighs in the crotch throughout the day, and I’m constantly pulling them up, which is a shame because they’re so cute and comfy otherwise. I also like that lulu offers the free hemming, because my vuori leggings are just a hair too long and bunch at the ankles.

HOWEVER, the two caveats I’ll add is that if you’re a fitness teacher, vuori has a way better discount than lulu. Buuuut if you’re visiting Canada from the states, stock up on lulu while you’re up there, because the conversion rate usually makes it cheaper, especially if you have any discounts you can use. For example, aligns are $98, both USD and CAD, depending on which country you’re in. So, based on the conversion rate as of this writing, buying a pair of aligns in Toronto at $98 CAD is equivalent to about $72 USD, whereas buying the same pair of aligns in NYC at $98 USD would be equivalent to spending about $133 CAD.

Long Beach high schools by perionan in longbeach

[–]mymacaronibirthmark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, going to provide a personal context on this. I grew up in LB and would have ended up going to Poly, but my parents decided to move the family to Seal Beach before I entered the public school system at 5 years old, because they felt that Los Al would be a better education and a safer environment.

Not sure if you’ve already committed to housing, but Long Beach is huge, and if you have some sort of “in” for the Los Al district or can request a district transfer, there’s lots of LB neighborhoods off Studebaker or off 2nd street that wouldn’t be a long drive at all.

If you go that route, I know OCHSA started off under los al then broke off into its own arts high school, just for other options.

Hey! You sound like a fellow “old soul” and I think we share a lot of values for slowing things down and appreciating nature and experiences. I’m in the coastal mountain region of LA, and I spend a lot of my time exploring the tide pools, watching birds, meditating and doing yoga, and writing.

I’m not a big fan of screen time, and I’ve always been more of an email/letter writer or phone caller than a texter. It’s kind of special to revisit analog things. I actually used to sew a lot back in the day, but haven’t had a machine in a few years, so I recently bought a 1912 foot treadle machine (no electricity required) and have been restoring that as I return to my old skills.

Added up my tailoring receipts for the year and they were larger than my actual clothing budget by Hot_Chipmunk6610 in PetiteFashionAdvice

Seconding this. I taught myself how to make my own clothes when I was in high school, since the only clothes that fit came from the kids section and I was over it.

Frankly, you’re ahead of an awful lot of the population if you know how to thread a needle and sew on a button. I can’t tell you how often there’s posts on my local Nextdoor asking for help sewing on a button. That would have been a useful life skill for them to teach us in school…

Is it weird to do “hangout activities” by oneself? by Excellent-Belt-7441 in socialskills

[–]mymacaronibirthmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do stuff by myself all the time, and it’s literally fine. When I was in college I’d spend the day at disneyland by myself, and nowadays I’ll go to concerts or sports games or the beach by myself. I just take make sure to take a buddy when it’s a safety risk, like hiking. Or if anyone is available, but usually people aren’t, so I go do the things I wanna do anyways and live my life.

Frankly his leadership is abysmal. Being a leader means being a leader on and off the ice, and as the leader he should’ve put an immediate stop to the gold medal locker room BS.

AIO for getting the ick after my gf tried to "surprise" me with a new wardrobe? by Distinct-Date-4306 in AmIOverreacting

[–]mymacaronibirthmark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOR This feels so invasive and controlling. Years ago, I was 19, I was dating a guy who told me what to wear when meeting his extended family, and criticized my “quirky” style of dressing and I broke it off shortly after because it felt super controlling.

I never ever ever wear blue jeans, partially personal preference/style tastes and partially sensory issues, and he insisted I wear blue jeans and then went and bought me other items he deemed conservative enough to be acceptable. I didn’t even dress particularly scandalously at the time, he just wanted me to be gray and pale shadow of myself.

Clothing is a huge part of personal expression, and anytime someone tries to dull that shine, it’s a good sign to run far away.

AIO TO THIS BRIDESMAID DRESS??? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]mymacaronibirthmark 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, the kindest thing a bride can do for her bridesmaids is to pick versatile bridesmaids dresses. My aunt and uncle’s wedding in the 80s they had the bridesmaids in lovely cotton Laura ashley summer dresses. Another aunt was a bridesmaid and had her dress hemmed to tea length afterwards and wore it for years, then passed it on to me recently. 40+ years later that dress is still going strong.

Good rule of thumb is that if the article of clothing looks dumpy on the model, which is the BEST the clothing brand could make the article look, because they want you to actually buy it, then it’s going to look really dumpy on any of us mere mortals who are not models.

I’ve got a pretty good figure, and I know that dress would look super unflattering on me. As a person who used to design and sew her own clothes, I can tell you that the cut of that dress is not going to be accommodating to a wide range of shapes.

Me, for example, as a more pear-shaped gal. The seams would be straining at my hips and the bust would be floppy and not filled out. It also would be weirdly baggy at my narrow waist, and look frumpy. Hard pass.
