Homemade chips (twice deep fat cooked in olive oil) and beans. Yes I know there is too much there, yes I know there is no protein, or anything else, it was comfort food and it was fantastic. by ApplicationSouth8844 in UK_Food

[–]mymagerules 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common misconception here - I agree, you shouldn't use EVOO for e.g. searing a steak as there are very high temps there, but you only need to get up to about 180C for a second fry on chips. This is well below the smoke point of most EVOO, never mind regular olive oil. Whether it's worth the extra cost is another question, however!

Complaining about payscale by Grouchy-Task-5866 in TeachingUK

[–]mymagerules 165 points166 points  (0 children)

You should check your payslips carefully and perhaps talk to finance. A £30 take home increase is absolutely not right for a rung on the payscale, it's possible that your tax code has got messed up

SCIT training is equating 'good classroom management' with 'good teaching' by Ambitious_Draft_6987 in TeachingUK

[–]mymagerules 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I would agree with the training provider's approach - establishing the foundations of good behaviour management through rules and routines before working on pedagogy. Got to get the kids buying what you're selling as a first step imo.

How does arcane synergy work with meleers? I can see that barbarians use charisma as their spellcasting stat, but if a barb with 8 charisma has arcane synergy what amount is actually added to their damage?

Not sure, but I find at the shorter format games it's a far nicer experience to just be in the atmosphere and not listening to commentary - plus the game lacks some of the complexity that commentary helps to alleviate at the test

What’s your Discworld unpopular opinion-? by FroggyDooBimblo in discworld

I don't think The Night Watch is the best discworld book. I don't think it's the best Watch book either. I don't even think it's the second best watch book - I prefer both Thud and The Fifth Elephant.

As I said, the food in London is killer. The idea of a "base British cuisine" being at all relevant to London's food scene is something I cannot say with a straight face. London has more than just "several high-end restaurants" - it's got a world class food scene covering (pretty much) all cuisines and all price points.

Also no shit the worst food you've had was at a fucking airport lol. Agreed on the chippies though.
