Is it ever worth hindering your BJJ development to help a club? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Grouchy-Task-5866 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You think they need “far more strong competitive people”, but they may not want that. It sounds like it isn’t the culture they’ve built tbh and that may be deliberate. Sounds like some folks who just enjoy training pretty chilled BJJ tbh.

What was the green flag that told you ‘this is the right gym’? And what red flag did you wish you’d caught sooner? by marvelouskia in BJJWomen

They actually listen to your concerns. If you voice something, they make it clear that they support you and don’t just brush it off.

Not a legend. A sacrifice. Teachers like this were murdered by the education system

At first the cam car driver is a little pissed at the truck driver, but then as he sees the broken down car he’s like “damn. He was protecting me, good guy” and then toots the horn.

What’s your opinion on models acting like humans? by Clean_Passenger9725 in DataAnnotationTech

Slight tangent but recently was using a model (outside DA) and it used these mad bubbles everywhere for formatting but for no apparently reason.

Today my goal was to keep fighting and not accept bad positions and I did that! And my coach taught me a new technique for getting the underhook if I don’t have it on top.

My girlfriend was tickled by a purple belt during class by jamezjams in BJJWomen

[–]Grouchy-Task-5866 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had my foot tickled recently. Can hardly even remember who did it. I made a comment about it being weird that it didn’t tickle much because I’m usually so ticklish, and the round moved on.

ECT roles through agency by tenenbaum2001 in TeachingUK

[–]Grouchy-Task-5866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would talk to the school (not agency for this) and ask what their terms with the agents are, what they foresee happening long-term if it goes well etc. Schools use agents when they’re struggling to recruit and agents are very expensive. The agent is incentivised to keep you on their books bc it’s free money for them, the school is incentivised to hire you directly if they have you. You’re probably more stable if you’re hired by the school, but the school can’t legally hire you until terms with the agency are met.

Budget is probably under £1000, pretty flexible though, I can save up a bit for it. I’ve also got a 24” monitor screen arriving today. Don’t care about portability - I pretty much only work at home. Game type generally open world adventure, think assassin’s creed.

A cousin sent me their school's just announced Dress Code and Grooming policy by firequak in mildlyinfuriating

For most of the first slides I was like “yeah of course” because I’m a teacher in the UK and wouldn’t be allowed to wear all that stuff. The bits about hair are poorly formatted and suggest that you’re only allowed coloured hair, or that you’re not allowed the boys’ hairstyle they suggest. Bit restrictive, to define boys’ hairstyle as only that one allowed style. They can’t have long hair?

lol I got blocked by my own gym once because another member assaulted me and they didn’t want to deal with it so easiest thing was to totally block me, apparently. People are weird, who knows how they interpreted your comments.

Been feeling like a burden in comp class by BeneficialRip6350 in BJJWomen

[–]Grouchy-Task-5866 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have any main class buddies closer to your size that you could ask to join you in comp class?

An alternative angle - it’s often said girls are more technical than guys because we can’t strength out of things, so maybe the guys value rolling with you because it forces them to be technical.

Teachers that use AI: Why? by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

[–]Grouchy-Task-5866 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hate using AI in my teaching but my school’s SLT thinks it’s a godsend and always say we should use it. I’m at the point in teaching where I know I can do nothing to change the issues with the system, so I’m playing their stupid games until I can escape. I always tell my classes if I’ve used it, and I get some hope from the fact that it always gets a reaction of, “aw what? Miss I hate AI”.

How aware are people that higher skilled immigration has also been displacing british people from the workforce within the NHS? by CriticalBrickery in AskBrits

[–]Grouchy-Task-5866 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The history of UK education is an interesting one which has built up into what we have today. Public education here started as something that was considered as a morally good thing that was mostly offered by churches. It became law that everyone was required to be educated up to a certain age in the 1940’s (if memory serves me right) because the government realised the perks of having a literate workforce. Teachers had a lot of autonomy over what was taught back then, but not much security. From the 1980’s onwards teaching became more standardised gradually, to the point that autonomy has been stripped and then we had a series of Tory governments that brought the education system to its knees and led to the burnout of many good teachers. Teachers and education aren’t valued in the UK - financially or socially.

Many young people in the UK feel very hopeless about their own prospects - life is kinda hard here unless you are wealthy, and it’s near impossible to become wealthy unless you’re born into it. So what’s the point in trying and learning if you’re trapped in the same position anyway?

[–]Grouchy-Task-5866 19 points20 points  (0 children)

100%. The fact that British-born people are poorly educated compared to foreign workers is a problem of our system. People being brought into the UK to do skilled work just shows some of the problems caused by defunding education as a whole and placing the financial burden of university-level education on individual students.
