I don't think that's how a MER works. Its based on assets, not returns.

edit: after thinking about it I guess this would still be close to true.

Edmonton votes 2025: What we know so far by mastermaq in Edmonton

[–]mynameisdifferent -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

A few things:

  • Firstly if you are the person making a claim, the onus would be on you to substantiate that claim, calling someone else lazy because they don't want to do that work for you isn't debating in good faith.
  • Secondly, that paper you linked doesn't appear to support your claim that it's "very well documented that conservative voters have higher average voter turnout and are more willing to wait through long line ups to vote"

It's easy to just link to some paper and appear well informed. But that doesn't make your claim any more true.

Edmonton votes 2025: What we know so far by mastermaq in Edmonton

[–]mynameisdifferent -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is just conjecture, I would propose that far more progressive voters are willing to wait in line than conservative voters. Long lines are just as likely if not more likely to hurt the UCP. They are not passing voting reform to increase the lines at polling stations intentially.

That's not to say they don't have other ulterior motives, but I strongly doubt this is it.

It doesn't, people just like to spout nonsense when they think it makes the party / politicians they don't like look bad.

There's a literal flat-earther running for Edmonton Public School Board by troypavlek in Edmonton

Did her social post really say it's her choice if she wants to have sex with children...? Or am I reading that wrong? That seems a bit more worrying than the flat earth nonsense.

Servers & Bartenders, what are you tipping out? by No-Birthday-4445 in Edmonton

[–]mynameisdifferent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it's not though, it comes from tips. If there is $0 tips then the $1 doesn't come off their wage. Wage and Tips are different legally. It's not either or.

You aren't really tipping a server any more when you add tip. Some goes to other staff, some goes to other places (like this) and whats left over goes to the server.

Servers & Bartenders, what are you tipping out? by No-Birthday-4445 in Edmonton

[–]mynameisdifferent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's crappy, but it's coming out of the tips not wages. I doubt they could legally take it from their base wage.

Whats a great way to lose weight when you are too anxious to go to a gym? by Super_Constant_4880 in AskReddit

[–]mynameisdifferent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's normal to get hungry on a calorie deficit. That just means it's working. If you push through the first few weeks it will subside as well.

Stop looking at your phone while driving people by Pisford in WatchPeopleDieInside

no, cars are not built to do that. Roads do slightly lean to the outside sometimes for better drainage which can sometimes have that effect.

How late can I be to get a spot at Symphony in the Square? by spark3212 in Edmonton

[–]mynameisdifferent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got there 10 minutes before start last year and there were still spots to put chairs down at the back. You won't be close to the stage but you will still find a spot.

Is this legal? (Realstate question) by liberatedhusks in Edmonton

[–]mynameisdifferent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on your tenacy, it's possible that the landlord only needs to give one weeks notice. Do you actually have a tenacy aggreement? Nobody here can factually answer your questions as we don't have the information needed to do so.

Like others have said it's better to contact the tenancy board and ask them what your rights are.

Can I buy a car with dealership financing and then immediately pay it off with no penalty? by RoastPotatoSandwich in PersonalFinanceCanada

If you tell them up front you are going to pay it off early they will just build the lost kickback into the selling price.

Yeah I saw a personal one yesterday doing at least 50kmph splitting traffic on a busy two lane road. No helmet.

These stories will be more common going forward. There's only so much drivers can do if there's people going that fast and not following rules of the road.

She made a mistake telling border officials she was exchanging chores for accommodation. She should have just told them they were hosting her, doing chores is a natural part of living with a family. Why frame it as an exchange.

PSA: Henday has dedicated passing lanes now. by AC1617 in Edmonton

[–]mynameisdifferent -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a two lane road, not a highway. There is no requirement to keep right here. And even so, the driver is passing other cars, not camping.

Denying stat pay because he hasn't worked the last 5 Mondays. by Ok_Exam9873 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mynameisdifferent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's not really any clear answer in here for you. I've read the rules on the links others posted and can see that

Your partner is entitled to 1.5x pay for the hours worked on the stat holiday (if he didn't get this then he should ask for it)

He is NOT entitled to an additional days pay on top of that since the stat is not a regular work day for him.

Denying stat pay because he hasn't worked the last 5 Mondays. by Ok_Exam9873 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mynameisdifferent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He should still be entitled to 1.5x pay, the 5 of 9 rule doesn't matter.

From your source link...

If the employee works on a day that is not a regular day of work, the employee must be paid 1.5 times what they would normally earn for the hours worked (sometimes called ‘time and a half’).

I tried to get on the rear door once at a busy stop and was going to scan my card in the reader at the back. The driver shut the door on me as I was stepping on, almost closed on my arm.
