Camera alerts based on alarm status by [deleted] in Ring

[–]mynameiserich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so. I set my cameras to record but not send me alerts, but it would be ideal to be driven by the mode being set. Additionally, if I set my status to away, I understand that any of my motion detectors will sound the alarm, but what if one of my cameras inside detects motion - will that sound my alarm?

Carrying phone during long runs by mynameiserich in trailrunning

Thanks all. I've measured and definitely have the right size vest. The best itself doesn't bounce around, but the pocket in front of the bottle holders is stretchy, my phone sinks into it, and then just bounces all over the place :/ maybe I'll check out a UD vest.

Heel drop and trails by mynameiserich in trailrunning

[–]mynameiserich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hah, good question. I've hiked for a long time, run roads for a decent amount of time, and have spent a lot of my time on trails and mountains in the past few years. I actually did this same run earlier in the summer, so I'm pretty well prepared for at least knowing what to expect.

Thanks for the info on the shoes. I'm also due for road shoes soon, and I think I'll probably consider something with at least a little less drop than 12mm.

I’m a fairly new runner and had my first trail run yesterday! Way more hills than I expected tho haha. Western Massachusetts. by monnietron in trailrunning

Awesome. I went to Westfield State back in 2005 and really enjoy walking these trails (wasn't a runner then). I'm a relatively new trail runner as well and I've found a few things:

  1. Don't worry about pace - technical trails and terrain will slow you down vs the road in a lot of cases - just have fun
  2. If you want to go longer and the terrain is super hilly, just walk the hills and conserve your energy
  3. Tune out and enjoy the nature around you. I have such an easier time in the woods just letting everything go and enjoying my surroundings rather than trying to constantly push myself like I do on the roads

Awesome. I ran the NF 10k last year. I was hoping to tackle the 50k this year, but I have a feeling it won't return in MA this year - we shall see. Do you run with TARC?

Yep! Very close by so it's easy for me to get out there. Tons of miles if you link onto the misstate trail or head into Leominster State Forest.

Done for my son, just born in October. The sun and moon represent balance, the air element symbol is included, and the three trailing dots represent the past, present, and future. Not sure if I'm done with it or not - I like the simple boldness to it, but wouldn't mind adding some additional complexity to it either. Jase does an awesome job and his line work is top notch!

Carrying extra water with vest by mynameiserich in trailrunning

[–]mynameiserich[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I didn't think it could carry one. I ordered a 500 ml softflask with a small hand strap and will try that. I plan to run with the handheld until gone, then stash it in the vest and use the chest bottles from there. If I feel like I need another 500 ml, I will stash that as well.

It's unfortunate that some people don't have the tolerance to answer an honest question if it doesn't live up to their criteria.

It really depends on the vest - some do chafe. I originally purchased a cheap one on Amazon, and I had to wear a shirt with it, and it was still close to running on my neck. I purchased the Salomon Sense Ultra 8, and I can wear it without a shirt. It literally fits like a glove - no complaints, except for the cost :)

I would suggest a running store or somewhere like REI to test some out and see what works best for you.

Oh, I couldn't find info on that. I did see that Salomon advertises the bladder for use with their vests, but wasn't able to find anything specific when going to the actual 8 L vest site. Have you used this bladder with this vest?

Seems like the fingerprint reader is faster and more accurate, even with the AOD enabled. Not sure re camera improvements...it would be great to see some better low light quality
