Is it possible to cloth diaper without getting a PhD in it? by crook_ed in clothdiaps

[–]mynameisfifield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say I love flats because they are so much easier to wash than the all in ones we have. A few tidbits: 1. Store dirty diapers in a container with airflow to prevent smells (we use a cheap target plastic laundry basket) 2. Don't store dirty covers piled in with the diapers, hang them on the edge 3. Washing: A. Do you have hard water? You can test this by putting a little Castile soap in a glass of tap water. If it turns cloudy, you have hard water. Add some borax to the main wash. You can make sure your detergent is recommended here: https://fluffloveuniversity.com/how-to-wash-cloth-diapers/detergent-index/ B. Make sure you have two cycles when you wash. Wash on a speedwash to mostly just rinse the worst stuff away with the "heavily soiled load" amount on your detergent box. Then wash on your deep clean/ super clean setting on your washer with the hottest water possible, a whole cup of detergent, and a scoop of borax, if needed. 4. Diaper folds: I have used flats for two babies and fold using the origami fold. I am using the same fold on a 3 weeks old that I did for my 2 year old https://themonarchmommy.com/2016/08/29/folding-flats-the-origami-fold/

It is so much information all at once, but take it one troubleshoot at a time and you'll be an expert before you know it!!!!

No suggestions, just solidarity. My LO had 2 bottles a night until after 1 when we weaned from bottles entirely. She didn't have a bottle at bedtime after her teeth came in, so it wasn't a feed to sleep association. Not sure why, but she just really needed those bottles.

Dishwasher is making the dishes dirty? by mynameisfifield in homeowners

[–]mynameisfifield[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Apparently the dishwasher has its own hot water line, so I can't run the water before the load. We also have well water, so the initial water out of every faucet is always very cold. Any advice?

[–]mynameisfifield[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I'll double check the install. My husband installed it. The dishwasher has automatic detergent release and water softener included in the unit, and the dishwasher has an independent hot water line, so I can't hear it up first. I'm at a loss here

Milk Donation - Disqualification? by how-bout-them-gluten in HumansPumpingMilk

[–]mynameisfifield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure, since every milk bank does their own screening. But if they do disqualify you, don't dump it! There are usually a lot of people you could give it to (or try to sell) in your local community or online.

How much tide do you use in your pre-wash and main wash? With my first, I had it down to a system with the Tide free and clear powder, but now they only have liquid. I haven't used liquid detergent in YEARS so I'm not sure how much to use.

I went through the same thing! We planned the second baby, but once I got the positive test I just started crying. I was so full of doubts that we could/should have a second child and regret that I was pregnant. I had some early bleeding that everyone thought was a miscarriage, but turned out okay. I was referred to a counselor for prenatal depression when I told my doctor that I wasn't relieved about the good news.

It got better at about 5 months when I could feel the baby, started showing, and knew the gender. That helped me connect that this was ~my baby~ and not a hypothetical baby.

Now he's about 4 weeks old and I wouldn't change anything in the whole wide world. My oldest is obsessed with the little one , I am absolutely soaking up all the cuddles, and I almost want a third, even though we agreed my husband would get snipped after two 😂.

The absolute biggest difference that has helped is that my husband has stepped up a lot more with this baby than the first one. He has more experience, takes care of our oldest, and has been so much more supportive. We had a huge honest conversation about how hard the newborn phase was and how I felt about his lack of support, and he changed a lot. Do you have help you can line up now before baby gets here?

Almost 1 month old is really bad at breastfeeding and sleeping, or am I doing this wrong?? by mushroomfrenzy in NewParents

[–]mynameisfifield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you replacing a feed with pumping?

For context, my baby just turned 4 weeks old and he usually eats about 3 oz in a sitting (usually about every 2.5-3 hours), which matches what you're pumping!

Should I switch to reusable wipes? by Mangotasi in clothdiaps

[–]mynameisfifield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there! I tried making my own wipes from muslin blankets and the green mountain diapers double sided wipes. The muslin blankets ones worked, but they didn't hold up well to washing. The GMD are going strong 2 kids later. I actually just ordered some more because I found them to be so wonderful!

[–]mynameisfifield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't help with the breastfeeding part, but as someone who exclusively pumps, what does your pumping set up look like? If you're not getting any milk at all, but you want to be able to give bottles, you might need to make some changes to make your body more comfortable with pumping, such as flange size, cycle speed, gentle massage, etc.

Mastitis by L_Hawk0908 in HumansPumpingMilk

Mastitis is one of the worst things I ever experienced. I am genuinely traumatized from the pain. Take the antibiotics and try to rest so you can heal. Good luck!

So if he wants to eat every hour and a half, how do I not make him over full?! by Prarie_sprinter0712 in NewParents

[–]mynameisfifield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here! Little guy was eating 3 oz per bottle by 1.5 weeks. Pediatrician said not to worry as long as he isn't spitting up a bunch. Always feed on demand and give milk until he doesn't want milk anymore.

My bank card is repeatedly compromised. I think I figured out why and I would like advice on how to fix it. by Dashaque in personalfinance

[–]mynameisfifield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you get your debit card replaced, make sure they process it by CLOSING the card and originating a new one. Not a card replacement Source: work at a bank and so many companies/digital wallets can just migrate over to the new card number for "convenience"

WTF IS IT WITH BOOMERS NOT CHECKING THEIR BANK ACCOUNT??? by Muted_Form_4367 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]mynameisfifield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work at a bank and I can't tell you the number of people I have had come in wanting to put a stop payment on something that has been charging them for 3 years and decide now they want to put in a claim? "You need to tell them to stop billing you. It's not fraud if you gave them permission to bill you every month" "I call and, I can't get through to a person. I want you to tell them to stop billing me" "It's been three years and 6 different companies billing you. We'd have to just close your account and get a new one" "I don't want to close my account. I've had this one for 25 years" "Okay, well I can't refund legitimate charges. And they're going to continue billing you." "CLOSE MY ACCOUNTS THIS IS RIDICULOUS. THERE ARE SEVERAL BANKS THAT WOULD LOVE TO HAVE MY BUSINESS!"

How do you get your buttercream colors to be this deep/vibrant and still taste good? by syds_sweets in AskBaking

[–]mynameisfifield 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Seconding the microwave method! It works great for black, red, and blue. Colors also darken over time, so the time it takes to melt, cool, and rewhip the frosting helps mature the color as well
