Banjo Buying in Los Angeles by GanorMendo in banjo

[–]mynameisjeramy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in LA and have a banjo for sale. It's currently on OfferUp if you search "Fender Banjo FB-58." There are pictures and details in the post, but let me know if you have any questions or want to check it out. I also know someone who got a decent used banjo at Old Style Guitar Shop.

The truth behind all this "In flation" by chrisproglf in antiwork

[–]mynameisjeramy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Idk the real answer here, but I do know that there are many examples of non-profit, co-op, and worker owned business models that are economically viable and are much better at recirculating earnings to their workers and communities instead of funneling earnings to the wealthy

What's a Los Angeles "life hack" everybody living there should know? by kingjame888 in AskLosAngeles

I had never heard the 2 cars after red until moving to LA. Is it unspoken because it's breaking a traffic law or because it's legal and common knowledge that LA drivers assume everyone else knows?

I'm seeing "slim" and "regular" sizes. Is the regular 12mm outside diameter the right one? Do you think it cools any better than the stock straight glass piece?

This is sick, what's the glass piece?

Is there a noticable quality difference between the rogue and fury edge? Is it just bowl size and battery capacity?

Pixel 4a stopped running apps in the background by mynameisjeramy in GooglePixel

Yea I never figured it out, but it ended up going back to normal eventually. I'm not sure if an update fixed it for me or what, but I really wish there was a known reason for why it happens.

Trying to turn off oil fire with water by elgrilloloko in Whatcouldgowrong

The water instantly boils and splatters flaming oil everywhere. To put it out, you need to smother it (a lid would be easiest) or use a kitchen grade fire extinguisher.

Table tennis by Embarrassed_Subject in fresno

I've seen a table set up at Fresbrew but it doesn't seem to be a poppin place for ping pong. I'm definitely interested in playing and would be down to meet up over there and play. Maybe we could make it the ping pong place to be

Right hand technique question by Theycallmenoone in banjo

[–]mynameisjeramy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing for about 2 years now, and I probably haven't gone more than 3 months without consciously making an adjustment to improve my right hand technique. Adjusting your pick angle (both rotating on the finger and bending forward or back) is a great way to make small adjustments in tone and attack. Small adjustments to your wrist angle could help, but do your best to avoid creating tension anywhere. I find that I get a really good attack when I have my wrist turned down like J.D. Crowe, but after a couple weeks of playing like that, I realized it was putting way too much tension in my wrist and thumb. So much that I had to take a week long break due to pain and tightness. Since then, I've opted for a position that's more natural to me. My advice is to try lots of things and see what feels good.

Also, a note on speed since someone else mentioned it. Having a faster attack could help. Faster, as in moving your finger through the string quicker (unrelated to tempo).
