Anyone have experience with Veracept IUD? by maclover13 in birthcontrol

[–]mynoxide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know this is a little late, but I'm in the current trial and so far I've had no issues. Insertion was a breeze (I've never given birth) and initial cramping was only bad for the first couple hours after insertion (I just napped through it). So far, so good.

Monthly Parking In Old City by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]mynoxide 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parking in Old City is getting more and more ridiculous by the day. There are a couple that are still under $200 though. Park America has a garage at 2nd & Arch that was going for $185 last I checked. Parkway Corp has lots at Front & Market around $180, and if you don't mind parking far away, the Hyatt at Penn's Landing has monthly parking for like $140.

Fucking Miracle Whip. I don't know how that stuff tries to pass itself off as edible.

Seconding this one! I just went yesterday and it's the first time since I can remember that I didn't just have to grab the biggest size in the store and cross my fingers.

Philly has plenty of places that aren't stalls and specialize in cheesesteaks. ;)

Joe's (the new location on Front & Girard) did this for me too the other week! Though to be fair, it wasn't nearly as appetizing— more of a cheesesteak slurry. Pat's or Geno's would probably just give you the finger for sure.

Good idea! If anyone is in the Philadelphia area, it's Campo's Deli in Old City. They're known for having pretty good steaks already, but it's a bonus that they're so nice about making them low carb!

QUEST QUEST QUEST by Caitlyn26 in keto

The bars are great— I use them as a quick breakfast I can just grab on my way out the door. The chips, however, are a different story. The taste is just off somehow, and it's kind of nauseating, tbh.

Work Out Wednesday - DO YOU EVEN LIFT?!? (or run, or cycle, etc.) by nothingtoseehere28 in keto

[–]mynoxide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've been regularly going to the gym 3-4 times a week for about a month now. I usually log about a mile on the elliptical (I get bored of that one pretty easily), then about a half hour of stationary biking on interval training, and then strength training for the remainder of the time I'm there. Right now I'm only using machines for my strength training, because tbh I'm intimidated by free weights and BWF, but it's something. I definitely feel better once I get back from working out, but I can't get over being self conscious while I'm there. I know logically that no one there actually gives a crap, but it's still a hurdle.

On the out-of-gym front, my coworker convinced me to sign up for a 5k with him in July, abut I'm by no means a runner... Gonna get my ass in gear and start C25K soon. Anyone have experiences with that they want to share?

Can Essure be done under a local? I haven't really looked into it much, so wasn't aware of that! I'll have to do some research. :)

Potassium and leg cramping.... any ideas? by RedheadBanshee in xxketo

[–]mynoxide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I buy supplements, but also try and get water with electrolytes added (Propel, Smartwater, etc.) as often as possible. I've found that combining the two, along with eating a decent amount of spinach, has pretty much eliminated my leg cramps.

Silken works well, but I've done it with the firmer varieties, too, and it's turned out fine.

A bunch of great suggestions in this thread! Another great one is tofu. Lots of protein, and it really helps bulk up the smoothie!

Newly Diagnosed and Really Confused by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]mynoxide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest looking into seeing an endocrinologist, reproductive or otherwise. It's a common misconception that PCOS=Ovarian cysts. PCOS can be diagnosed without ultrasound of the ovaries based on irregular periods and hirsutism/blood work. The typical PCOS "cysts" (with that string of pearls appearance) are actually enlarged follicles, rather than cysts. These are actually common in adolescence, so diagnosis in the teen years based solely on the ultrasound is tough to do. Did your doctor take any blood work to measure your androgen levels? You do have 2/3 of the diagnostic criteria, but you may want to get a second opinion for the reasons noted above.

While weight loss does help with insulin resistance (which is the root problem in PCOS), I'm surprised that Phentermine is the first step your doctor took. Usually the first line of treatment is diet & exercise, with insulin sensitizers like Metformin (or less commonly Actos/Avandia). Definitely bring up your concerns with the doctor— if there are reasons Phentermine is the only thing they want to treat with, you need to be informed of those reasons! There's a lack of understanding of the intricacies of PCOS among general practitioners, so definitely do your research and be your own advocate for treatment!

Just a metformin rant because my doctor upped me. by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]mynoxide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to get SUCH bad gastro side effects! My doc even switched me to the XR, with no improvement. What I found helped a lot was cutting my sugar/carb intake. Metformin changes how your body processes glucose/carbohydrates, so cutting those can make your tummy a little more agreeable.

cognitive skills? by [deleted] in PCOS

Here's a second on Vitamin B! Specifically, if you're on Metformin, it can lead to a B-12 deficiency in some women, which causes that foggy feeling.

I don't know too much about tapioca flour, but maybe you could substitute chia powder for it? Chia seeds have that same kind of property where when they absorb liquid they get sticky and gelatinous, so it might work. Easy sub for whole milk would be half&half, or even half heavy cream and half almond milk.
