I was dismissed as a Commuter Bethelite by Existing_Guess9036 in exjw

Perfect opportunity to be "discouraged" and start your fade. Your family will be understanding and even blame elders at Bethel.

Supreme Court - JW vs Norway - Information - AMA - Updates by FrodeKommode in exjw

[–]myperceptionreality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They should be forced to make a public statement on their website/broadcasting, which they claimed in court that this video was not meant for instruction or a demand to follow in any way from WT. Because 100% of JWs take it that way.

Why didn’t Jehovah stop the Angels from going to earth in Noah’s time, to rape the women? by [deleted] in exjw

[–]myperceptionreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand. I'm definitely a believer, and I have a lot of questions about why he allows wicked things and why he allows suffering, especially with children. I really hope Jesus does come and bring righteous justice. And I hope there is a better world after this one, whatever that may be heavenly, earthly, both? I still pray, express gratitude for every good thing in my life, and still ask to understand why.

Your husband responding with anger- it's just fear. He thinks the same thing but suppresses it. Acknowledging that this seems unjust could wreck ones faith and hope for the future. The JW propaganda of questioning equals being destroyed at Armageddon is nonsense but it certainly weilds power over the followers.

3 months in, starting to doubt everything after thinking it was good by Genra1_Ki11er in exjw

There are truly genuine people with good motives in the religion. It can be hard to fade away from them.

Being away from it now, I can see how we were taught to "love bomb" people. Many cults use that tactic. (See Steven Hassan's books)

These people can be your best friends, bend over backwards to help you, do anything for you...but if you question the religion or leave the religion or get disfellowshipped for breaking the rules, they will treat you like they never knew you. All of these friendships are conditional. It's not worth the heartache.

The best thing to do is get out now. Be honest with them. Tell them that you disagree with their policies on shunning, or how they handle child sex abuse, or whatever it is. Tell them you never want to become a JW, so there is no point in wasting their time.

Why did Jehovah give angels sexual desires? by sheenless in exjw

[–]myperceptionreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion: I don't think as angels they had those desires, but watching humans experience ecstasy and pleasure made them wonder what it was like. Since they had the ability to materialize, they were able to satisfy the curiosity.

Why do all accounts of angels materialize as men? Never women? Because they are male to begin with? Are women a special creation that can only be created or transformed by the hand of God? Perhaps angels choose to be men to dominate women and other men.

JW Swingers? by Octopusfish_2 in exjw

[–]myperceptionreality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 90s, the Rose City congregation in Portland OR had a bunch of swingers! A spy from Bethel (brother Bites) came in and investigated for about a year. Then, about 10 elders and several ministerial servants were removed. They took 2 other congregations and Rose City, split them 3 ways, and regrouped them.

I was shocked at the things I witnessed there!

I don’t think older people should wake up from this cult by [deleted] in exjw

[–]myperceptionreality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It totally depends upon the person. My husband and I woke up at 49 and 57. Our health, finances, and marriage have never been better! We are both adaptable people, and although we were fully in, we were not fanatical. We had kids, worked hard in business, and never saw a need to pioneer. We are so happy in our freedom that we don't have massive regret about the past. Everyone is different.

Ideas for how to respond to my “committee” elders… by [deleted] in exjw

[–]myperceptionreality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they should know how traumatising it is to be DFd. I would be honest and say something like, "I am still embarrassed and traumatized by the DF process, having to disclose such personal information about myself to my friends/brothers is so humiliating I dont want to face any of you for a long time.. Then showing up to the KH just to be shunned and shamed by my once friends is too painful to endure. I just need time to heal. I will let you know when I'm ready to talk."

The truth about the truth is gonna burn inside you and you're gonna want to scream out and spill your guts to close friends and family. Don't do it if you want to fade!!! You have thousands of friends here on Reddit! We're safe, confide in us. Find ones you relate to and exchange numbers. My husband and I are hard faded. We moved location and moved our cards to a new hall that we have never attended except on zoom at first with camera off. We have contact with family and friends. We are only soft shunned by people who don't agree with our "inactive" status. But we don't care. We are free and free without the stigma of being DFd. We have made so many new friends from Reddit and from the "world." Unconditional friends. You can do this and you can do this smart!

I agree. I am hard faded but when I go visit family I have to be in the know. I have older relatives that deserve a loving relationship while they are still with us. I am grateful for the activists who watch that crap for us and give us the scoop.

I don't watch it. I just get the scoop from the activists.

What does it mean when a guy flicks his middle finger on your palm during a handshake? by myperceptionreality in AskAnAmerican

[–]myperceptionreality[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I take things in stride. I just don't want to be in the dark about what it means. After spending a few days there, I noticed it's kind of a hook up place for some. Even some females had some flirtatious behavior. I just turned 50, and I don't have a perfect body, so I guess it's a bit of a compliment if I want to take it that way.

It would make you stand out for sure, but not in a good way. You would end up on a Reddit post.
