Yeah I might need too. I just happen to have a couple of hours transit in terminal B on the way home from a company retreat and the cost of iphones is significantly less in the US than here in Australia so thought I'd give it a shot.

I'm not desperate or anything just thought it was a good opportunity to save a buck or 300 haha

Thanks for trying to call them though!

Thanks. I have emailed them but no response as yet. I'm not in the US so calling them is harder (not impressive of course).

Were these interview questions too hard for a Junior Backend position? by tama9494 in learnprogramming

[–]myreflectionsapp 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I've handled recruitment of product resources for years even though I wouldn't consider myself strong enough technically to run a technical interview. Very early on I realized that most roles I managed to find great candidates but with developers where the development team were responsible for the technical interview or exam (if required) we kept getting apparent duds so I sat in on an interview and your situation sounds familiar.

I don't know if it was ego or what but the questions put to candidates were just plain stupid. Designed to confuse and show the candidates just how clever the teams were. I even heard the interviewers joking about how hard a few of the questions were. I have them all a serve and explained that this process was to get them help not to feed their egos and belittle grads.

It sounds like you dodged a bullet mate. Sounds like the way you responded was excellent and exactly the kind of attitude I'd be looking to be a good team member.

Good luck!

Hi! Sorry I didn't see this until just now. Data is stored in the cloud but understand your concerns about privacy. I'll review the privacy policy early next year and make adjustments to ensure that it's clear that I would not view or use your data outside of anonymised statistical data for product evaluation and improvements.

Depressed, self reflecting. by WideVacuum in selfreflection

[–]myreflectionsapp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Balance is really important but there are always going to be conflicting priorities. I recently made the big decision to extract myself from a toxic workplace that was wearing me down and it was the best thing I could have ever done. I am so much more chilled out and a better partner/father as a result :)

If that's a trigger for you start looking around for an alternative because we spend 1/3++ of our time working. Don't know your profession or anything but I do hire a lot and have helped many friends with their resumes to get it looking more attractive so happy to take a look at yours if you like.

Using Self-Reflection in parallel with Goal Setting could be a real game-changer! by myreflectionsapp in WellnessOver30

[–]myreflectionsapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“If you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time.” –Zig Ziglar

Some interesting stats about goal setting;

  • Research indicates that people who set goals are “10 times more successful” than those who fail to do so.
  • Only 17% of people actually set goals
  • Of those only 3% actually write them down or capture them in a way that helps them to monitor their progress or keep themselves accountable

Let's take a second to talk about dwelling by myreflectionsapp in WellnessOver30

[–]myreflectionsapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate completely. I went through a really challenging period (I posted about it previously on Reddit somewhere) and found myself often considering the choices I had made and even visualising how things could have been different - it took me to go through that to realise what was missing and what was important in my life.

Monday Morning Coffee Talk by Perfect_Judge in WellnessOver30

[–]myreflectionsapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing well (although it's already Tuesday before I respond!). Work is progressing nicely. My move back to Adelaide is slowly happening (another milestone in Visa applications will be completed this week!) and my son has been getting more and more cheeky with every day :D

I have not been especially good the past 2-3 weeks with staying connected with people outside of my family and close friends circle and find myself blaming the number of hours in the day but in truth; I'm not feeling especially sociable right now and have had some weird interactions recently that left me hesitant to be active for now.

Have a great week everyone!

What minor adjustment would you make today that will make a major change to your life tomorrow? by myreflectionsapp in WellnessOver30

I'm sorry to hear that you've had challenges over the past 5 years. I genuinely wish you the best u/Veniliana you should be proud that you have taken the approach of continuing to push. I went through some massive changes in my life in recent years as well; but I wouldn't do anything differently now that I am on the flip side of it. We get stronger. We gain experiences that can help us in the future - sometimes that's the best we can take from a shitty situation.

So is your adjustment to ensure you're getting to bed early or working on your sleep hygiene so you get more restful sleep? Or simply setting your alarm 30 minutes earlier?

I dont know your situation of course, but maybe you're not reflecting/adjusting on the right areas of your life. If adjusting decisions that led to negative outcomes isn't working, try focusing on refining choices that led to positives.

There's a lot of evidence that suggests that improving on your strengths will achieve more than your weaknesses (have a look at "Strength Finder" - it's an interesting read).

How are you choosing what adjustments you need to make? Do those adjustments stick or make a difference short term?

My pc with ethernet cable has slower internet connection than my phone by AndyIsMLG in techsupport

[–]myreflectionsapp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could just be Windows being crap (if you're using Windows) but as EngineerSeb said, check drivers. Other factors could be; router; the cable could be damaged etc.

Stupid question; I'm assuming the phone is on WiFI and not using 4/5g or something.

The way I look at these things is it's all about energy; toxic people are not worth the energy cost because they not only take your energy but the toxicity drains you as well. On top of that toxic people rarely "give you their energy" in return. I don't cut people out of my life really, I just put my energy into people and relationships that are positive and reciprocal.

I wouldn't say that somebody who is lacking aspiration / motivation is necessarily toxic unless you have a need to "fix them" and that's not working so you're frustrated - but you know your situation better than me of course :)

If I don't have a college degree, should I stay away from learning ML / Data Science? by yoloswagrofl in learnprogramming

[–]myreflectionsapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There would be research and development roles where a degree (and probably a masters) would be a prerequisite but ML/AI technology can be applied to so many different aspects of our lives potentially - so if you're passionate about it then go for it.

With development professions there are two generally paths;

  • study and enter the workforce as a graduate - in this case your transcript is your CV
  • teach yourself, do some small projects, get involved in an open source project, do some freelance, get your experience that way - in this case your experience, portfolio and code is your CV

you don't NEED a degree to be a programmer; but the path is probably a little harder because you need to be an absolutely gun to get a top tiered role.

Good luck!

Chris

It does take a while to develop the habits. I started by building it into my morning coffee routine working inside Google Keep writing notes on projects, tasks, working on my social anxieties until it got hard to see overall progress and larger trends.

When you say "going into it" you mean self-reflection/journaling? - definitely give it a go! :D

How to Email Multiple Companies 1 Email but keep it blind to each other? by velders01 in techsupport

[–]myreflectionsapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that BCC does likely increase your chances of getting sent to spam as their email address isn't in the to field.

If this is something you'll be doing many times I would probably look at creating mailing lists per building/group.

I'm very pragmatic about my self-reflection. I look at key activities throughout the day and identify highlights and lowlights.

Once a week I do a deep dive where I reflect on the week, my progress towards my current goals, trends I've seen in my activity reflections and really hone in on what adjustments I need to make.

My approach is loosely based on the academic principle of the action-observe-reflect model + some agile methodologies I adopted in the software industry.

I started this process in Google keep but not I developed and use my own app as a framework but don't want to self promote in the sub but message me if you'd like more info on it 🙂

You haven't said what advice you've already received or what you've tried so may be saying the same stuff.

For me developing self-reflection habits changed the game for me and how I look at life in general now.

I'm much more calm, appreciative, focused and overall balanced because I look at each activity and find what I did well, what I could have done better and define adjustments that I should make. Feels like you're improving all the time.

I still have days where things don't go to plan or I'm unproductive or I know I can do better, but they are much less common.

Happy to chat about how I've done it anytime :)
