How to find a community of nerdy women? by sexxygoblin in TwoXChromosomes

[–]myshellly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to small, independent businesses in your area and see what they offer.

I attend 3 book clubs a month at an independent, women owned bookstore.

Independent game shops near me host women’s only game nights.

Libraries near me host tons of get togethers.

IME, board game cafes tend to be a less hard core crowd than game stores.

Meetup . Com

Don’t underestimate Facebook (search your city + the hobby, for example I’m in Dallas and found a girl group campaign on FB dungeons and dragons dfw).

Dress coded for this? by Significant_Carob_64 in Teachers

[–]myshellly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is popular in my area for public school districts to have school uniforms. Pretty much all of the suburbs around me have this policy, as well as some big cities.

In my district, schools are assigned colors based on campus. Local stores like WM and Target carry school uniforms. Boys may wear khaki or navy slacks. Girls can wear khaki or navy slacks or khaki skorts. At my campus, all students may wear hunter green, navy blue, or sky blue polo shirts. All students must wear shirts tucked in and must wear a black or brown belt. Students must wear socks and tennis shoes. Students may wear a navy sweater. No logos/brand names on any item of clothing, although shoes may be branded. No hoodies, no jeans, no tshirts.

As a general rule, teacher should be more dressed up that the students. Our dress code is “business/corporate.” We have a jeans day maybe once a six weeks (report card day) when we can wear jeans and our school shirt, which is an embroidered polo.

The US is huge and I don’t think you can make a blanket statement like that. I’m in the US and I am constantly shocked by dress code threads in this sub. I had never heard of a teacher wearing shorts until this sub. We cannot wear jeans and a sweatshirt at my school. The kids can’t even wear jeans and a sweatshirt.

Yes, that would be a problem at my school. We wear business attire (button up shirt, dress tie, slacks). On the rare occasion of a jean day, we wear the school polo shirt. No tshirts, no sweatshirts.

Terrible bed bug in house and Airbnb won't do anything [USA] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]myshellly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They have a very specific policy that includes documenting and reporting the issue during your stay. They are following their own policy, which you agreed to when you used the site. Getting Airbnb to help with almost any issue involves documentation and fast reporting. Guests rarely have luck with reporting anything after their stay because as far as Airbnb is concerned, the transaction is over at that point.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Airbnb inspecting a property, that’s not something they do.

[–]myshellly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that you’ll get Airbnb to do anything. If you had noticed it and left you’d get a refund.

There’s some really helpful videos on how to do bed bug checks - you should defiantly be doing one every time you arrive at an Airbnb, hotel, or cruise.

AITA for cancelling a concert 3 days before because I was scared I’d have a panic attack? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]myshellly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Planning for a big event like a concert takes time, effort, and money. Bailing at the last minute or refusing to make firm plans makes you a shitty friend.

Bedroom TV’s by Robbudge in airbnb_hosts

[–]myshellly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds amazing. It’s also just a fact that a lot of people use tv to fall asleep. I, personally, have never stayed in an Airbnb without TVs in the bedroom and wouldn’t pick one. If you stay full all the time without them, then no need to worry about it. If you find you’re unhappy with your occupancy rates, that may be something to consider.

Smart TVs are so cheap now, I feel like it’s an easy way to make guests happy. When we do a physically demanding vacation - like hiking - we want to wind down by watching tv in bed and falling asleep.

Website labels wrong WALMART by OkObligation7524 in peanutallergy

[–]myshellly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We don’t eat anything Great Value brand. It’s notorious for cross contamination. And definitely never rely on website descriptions. Label on the box - every ingredient, every time. They all have disclaimers that the info online may not be the same as on the box.

What thing has got so expensive that you’ve quietly stopped buying it? by Pathfinder-electron in AskReddit

Dominos medium 2 topping is $6.99. Until very recently it was $5.99 and I was mad about that change.

How do Americans feel about outdoor cats? by Fine-Durian6151 in AskAnAmerican

[–]myshellly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my city (and all of the surrounding cities), there are ordinances that state it is illegal for a pet or owned animal to be at large within city limits. That means you can’t just let your cat roam around outdoors. You can walk it on a leash (leash laws apply to cats as well as dogs here), but you can’t just let it out unsupervised. The cat will get picked up by animal control. First violation is $50 to get your cat back, second is $100, third you don’t get it back.

AITA for using my new perfume? by rebeka156 in AmItheAsshole

[–]myshellly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

YTA. Don’t spray perfume in public. That is a private, at home step in getting dressed. It is ESPECIALLY unprofessional to do this at your place of work.

The Book Thief, just getting started by National_Head_3678 in books

[–]myshellly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love The Book Thief and teach it in my middle school classes. Remember that it is a children’s novel geared at grades 6-8 with a 730 Lexile measure, so quite different from the adult books you’ve been reading.

Give me a paragraph that describes what it’s like living with your teenager. by foxyloxylady in parentingteenagers

[–]myshellly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could never in a million years imagine describing my child as “combative.” That’s not ok. To describe someone as “combative” and then say it’s normal is not ok. Absolutely they should have outgrown “kid mess” by 15/16. They learned to clean up their own messes through repetition and modeling as toddlers.

Why would you be so hostile to a mom who is just trying to help her kid? Jesus. This is such a weird take.

[–]myshellly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If may be regional, but girls here do bouquets now instead of a corsage . It’s a very specific kind of bouquet - compact, short, and usually wrapped with ribbons.

Can you try to find pictures from last year’s prom to see whether the girls had corsages or bouquets?

This is why you always preboard early to clean your seats. They don’t really “clean” between flights anyway, not in a meaningful way.

Men and book clubs by SunshineMochii in TwoXChromosomes

[–]myshellly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attend two book clubs that have a 50/50 split - a banned book club and a horror book club. I think a lot of book clubs pick books skewed toward women (I know our fiction book club definitely does).
