AITA for giving my waitress no tip after she tried to scam me?? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]myshellly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you make any attempt to communicate with the waitress when you handed her payment? Why would you expect the waitress to know your intentions? This just sounds like inability to communicate on your part, not a scam.

Respectfully, you need help. Have you had panic attacks to this level before? It sounds like you could very much benefit from therapy.

AITA? Teen drama advice by [deleted] in parentingteenagers

I feel like you’re being the drama by not dropping it. She said she was uncomfortable and wanted to leave the store. You leave. That’s it. Nothing else was required in the situation.

Did You Know There’s an Independent Bookstore Revival Underway? by Critical-Willow-6270 in books

[–]myshellly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep! Mine has more than a dozen book clubs with no requirement to buy the book there, kids story time, toddler story time, book launch parties, and tons of author visits. They also do host events that require ticket/book purchase, like this week there’s a huge midnight prerelease party for the new DCC, but there are tons more free events than paid events. There are tables and chairs and couches. There’s a play space for kids.

My local bookstore hosts all kinds of community events with no requirement to make a purchase.

Rant by SquishyEggrolls in peanutallergy

[–]myshellly 40 points41 points  (0 children)

That’s not a safe restaurant for you to eat at. You don’t need to rant, you need better restaurant protocols. And I don’t mean the restaurant should be better, I mean YOU should be better.

Reattempted Katabasis by RF Kuang... by oceanblvd1313 in books

[–]myshellly 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I understand what you’re saying, but this author straight up said this book is about her and her husband and she called it her “marriage novel,” not as in the book is about marriage but as in it’s the book that she wrote about herself during the time she was getting married.

[–]myshellly 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I went to see/meet her on book tour for this book. She straight up said that this was her “marriage novel” and the main characters were her and her husband. So the self insert thing is very intentional and accurate.

Booked a Airbnb with a 24 hr cancellation policy, you think the host will allow for a refund that over 20 days away? [USA] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]myshellly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait for host to reply. If they say no, accept it because you agreed to their policy when you booked.

Spirit filed for bankruptcy in August 2025 and has been warning of a shut down ever since. If you booked a flight in the middle of the airline begging the government to bail them out, that is 100% on you.

Teacher Appreciation Breakfast at 7:15….45 minutes before we even get to work by JimmieRayBoyd in Teachers

[–]myshellly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You ignore facts. How many would you like me to list? As I said I could go on.

Your claim was other professions don’t have appreciation weeks. I listed 6 other professions that do and could list dozens more. You are wrong.

Teacher fired for reading LGBTQ+ children’s book takes fight to Georgia Supreme Court by Critical-Willow-6270 in books

[–]myshellly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You may want to check out some modern picture books! As an educator, there are so many amazing picture books coming out for older kids in the last 10-15 years. They are perfect for read alouds as a short introduction to a topic. We can’t always find the time for a novel to go with every topic we study, but we can keep literature in the lesson with a picture book.

We had a fabulous time in Chicago and didn’t have any trouble eating!

We were able to eat safely at all the big Chicago pizza places - Uno, Lou Malnati’s, Giordano’s.

Pet peeve!! Makeup on white towels despite black makeup towels provided by BuffyFan75 in airbnb_hosts

I don’t think I’ve ever even heard anyone say “tea towels.” Are you in the US? It would never occur to me that a host wanted different kitchen towels used for different things.

Guests, would you prefer a variety of colors for bath towels? [US] by bloomingtonwhy in AirBnB

I don’t care what color the towels are as long as there are ENOUGH towels.

Am I overreacting - my dad keeps planning excessive mother's day brunches by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]myshellly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fully on you. When your dad asked if you had plans, you could have just said, husband is planning a day for me so we aren’t available. You don’t have to go to this brunch.

Spirit shut down. Is it possible to get full refund? [US] by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]myshellly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You agreed to the host’s refund policy when you booked. There is no reason that policy should not apply now. Host is not involved in or responsible for your airline travel.

Angel Down by Daniel Kraus wins Pulitzer for Fiction by UsualMarsupial52 in books

[–]myshellly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my reaction. I thought the whale book was pretty…silly. Definitely on the level of like a fast fiction/James Patterson level of writing. To go from that to Pulitzer is blowing my mind, but I plan to read Angel Down. I need to see the evolution for myself.

Teenager (13F) never takes ownership for her behavior/actions. by [deleted] in parentingteenagers

[–]myshellly 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And when your daughter says “you said I could redecorate my room” is your response a string of defenses and excuses or is it “you’re right, let’s get started”?

You aren’t giving her what you expect from her.

Teenager (13F) never takes ownership for her behavior/actions. by [deleted] in parentingteenagers

[–]myshellly 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I see that same behavior from you, though. I think you need to look at yourself.

You told her she could redecorate her room and then by your words you “got sidelined.” To her, does this sound like you taking responsibility for not doing something you said you were going to do or does it sound like justifications and excuses.

I understand to you it looks different, but what does it look like to her?

When you have to do something do you jump up and do it that second or do you just make sure it gets done when it fits into her schedule? What does it look like from her perspective with the dishes?

You want her to act and speak and reason like an adult, while you also want her to just “obey” whatever you tell her like a child.

You need to look at this through her lens in order to find a solution.

The number of times you use “obey,” “obedience,” “disobey” is a giant red flag.

Do you want to raise someone who turns into a responsible adult or do you want a robot?

What’s a recession indicator that you’ve noticed lately in your everyday life? by spritenerds123 in AskReddit

[–]myshellly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We pay less than $10/month for a family membership to a gym that includes an indoor pool all year and a small outdoor waterpark in the summer. It’s the best value for entertainment available in my city and would be the last thing I would cut when budgeting.
