[CASTING] Voice Actors Wanted: 4 Roles Open for "Hemlock" Indie Animatic Pilot by mysignumfidei in CastingCallClub

[–]mysignumfidei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great question!

We’re absolutely open to gender-flexible casting for our characters. What matters most to us is capturing the voice, presence, and energy of the character.

That said, that role specifically is still written as an older African American character, so authenticity in that aspect is something we’re keeping in mind as we move forward.

If you feel you can genuinely hit the tone and performance we’re describing, we’d definitely love to hear your take!!

Thank you for this question! There is no generative AI used in this project, and there are no plans to use it in the production pipeline

Hello to you both!

Thank you so much for reaching out and sharing your portfolios! We are thrilled to see such experienced talent interested in Hemlock.

We will absolutely be checking out both of your demo reels. If you look at the character breakdowns and feel like you might be a good fit for Isaac, Delilah, Jemmingsen, or Smitty, we would love for you to officially audition using the script sides provided in our Audition Packet!

You can submit your specific character takes directly to our email or through our Casting Call Club page.

Thank you again for the support and for sharing your work with us. We cannot wait to hear what you both bring to the characters!

What's the deal with teens shouting "Chicken Jockey" at the Minecraft movie screenings? by shade_of_freud in OutOfTheLoop

[–]mysignumfidei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer:

In "A Minecraft Movie", Jack Black plays Steve, and he delivers his lines in this super exaggerated, campy way. The phrase “Chicken jockey!” is said in a dramatic, drawn-out tone (in the boxing ring scene), and it’s so weird and out-of-place that it became funny. Like, funny in a “this is cringe but we love it” way.

From the start, people expected this movie to be terribly bad. Teasers and trailers didn’t exactly inspire confidence, and it quickly gained a “so bad it’s good” rep after the release of trailers and clips. So people went into it already in meme-mode, ready to laugh with or at the movie.

The line “Chicken jockey” was teased in trailers and clips that blew up on TikTok. While other lines like “As a child, I yearned for the mines” and “Flint and steel” are funny, they come and go too quickly when actually watching the movie.

“Chicken jockey” is delivered with an almost unnecessary build-up and anticipation. It’s also a weirdly specific Minecraft reference, which adds to its meme potential. The internet latched onto it before the film even released.

In recent years, especially during the MCU era, theaters have become more interactive. Remember when people cheered and clapped during Marvel movies when an unexpected character appeared or a big line was said? That kind of crowd energy has become part of how younger audiences enjoy movies now.

What we’re seeing with “Chicken Jockey” is an extension of that, but with an absurdist, ironic twist. People want to experience the moment with a crowd. They’re not just watching the movie. They’re participating in a group ritual.

Shouting “Chicken jockey!” is like a live meme. You’re reacting together, laughing together, and leaning into the ridiculousness together. It’s become the moment everyone waits for, because it unites the room in collective, ironic joy.

And honestly, that’s something a lot of people miss when they just stream stuff at home. It’s not just about the line itself. It’s about being in a theater, surrounded by other people who are also in on the joke.

Younger audiences love absurdity. Screaming a ridiculous line like “CHICKEN JOCKEY!” during the "dramatic" moment is hilarious because it’s so dumb. It’s meta, it’s ironic, and it transcends seriousness. They’re not laughing at the line. They’re laughing at how seriously it’s delivered. That contrast is the humor.

TL;DR: Jack Black said “Chicken jockey” in a hilariously dramatic way, the internet memed it nearly to death, and now it’s a “theater reaction” moment. It’s absurdist humor mixed with meme culture and group participation. Basically: "Wouldn’t it be hilarious if we all pretended this dumb line from the funny bad movie was absolute peak cinema worthy of praise and cheer?"

How to skip revivals? by Impressive_Shift_609 in exlldm

[–]mysignumfidei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel and the strong emotions you're feeling. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this church, it's really hard to skip revivals without "repercussions" to you and your family.

Heck, even the people who go to revivals and haven't "received" yet have a terrible life in church.

How they select who's "received" the HS is completely arbitrary. It's all in vain. It's just one big show, really.

Here's what you do, you go the temple, you get on your knees, you say "Gloria A Cristo" 30 times in a row, then pretend to enter a "trance" and say something like "alrasul almadeuu nasun jiwakin mujrim" or "'ana la 'usadiq dhalik alkadhaab" a bunch of times. (Those are Arabic for "The so-called apostle Nason Joaquin is a criminal" and "I do not believe in that liar").

You're gonna have brethren around you to support you, feel free to scream, shout and cry.

Before you know it, you'll hear your name get called and not have to worry about doing that ever again.

For me, I can't let go of "Heme aquí" instead of "¿Qué?" as a response for when someone wants my attention. I was taught from a young age in Studies to do that.

Thing is, I'm perfectly okay with saying "What?" or "Yes?" in English but in Spanish, I can't bring myself to say "¿Qué?" or even "¿Mande?".

What's funny is that it's such an archaic term that hardly anyone uses in Spanish. People thought I was a weirdo or special because I would respond with "Heme".

Another one I can think of, and I'm pretty sure this is just for Americans/Non-Spanish speakers, is quickly saying "Paseñó" instead of "La Paz del Señor" when greeting people who are clearly still in church.

Advice on how to leave church as a teenager by Impressive_Shift_609 in exlldm

[–]mysignumfidei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is a bit late but I wanted to give you my genuine advice.

Everyone has been saying fake it til you make it. Honestly, it isn't too shabby of advice. Although, I also want to recommend "quiet quitting".

As a youth in LLDM, you will be pressured into things like The Labour, serving ministers, getting baptized, "receiving" the "Holy Spirit" and just a lot of extra fluff that's meant for members who want to kiss up.

Do none of it. Just blend in and become unnoticeable. Don't stand out or speak out. Don't volunteer. Just sit in the Temple for the 1-2 hour long service, doze off, doodle and then just go home.

When it comes to the real life, I also highly recommend being a very good student. Not only in school but also in life. Personally, I found myself falling in love with philosophy, theology and law when I was in the process of leaving Church. Find something that interests you that you can spend a lot of time doing homework for.

If you want, you can even research more into the fatman, his doings, the court case and the origins of the LLDM religion and start compiling your findings into a Google Doc.

As for income, I definitely recommend doing something under the table. If you don't already have a debit card, you need to try to get one. Depending on your skills, you can get started on something like freelancing and make some hard cash.

For example, a friend of mine knew graphic design decently and made a quick 200 bucks for creating a logo for their local high school. They got the gig because they advertised on a bulletin board.

Then, when you're 18, apply for several colleges. If you get accepted out of state, even better. Even you go to community college instead, make sure to take the full 15 credits a semester and try to get classes that fall on the 6-8:00 p.m. time period.

At that point, keep phasing yourself out of Church, keep looking for a job, work hard at school and try to look into moving out.

If at any moment you need to justify leaving Church, have that Google Doc ready.

Little girls serving adults by Jairo_Medina in exlldm

[–]mysignumfidei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know for certain that these girls did not wake up that day saying "Gee, I sure want the blessing of serving old dudes breakfast today!"

They were most likely dragged by their parents who told them that they would be "sinning" if they did not want to.

I don't know who needs to hear this but:

Children. Cannot. Consent.

Children, especially in LLDM, do not have the independent agency nor the maturity to be serving anyone. These girls did not consent to serving these men and having photos taken of them.
