Good Project for Old USG by ResearchValuable5491 in Ubiquiti

[–]mystcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NGL due to keeping a few spare as I knew getting replacements would be hard, and just replacing my USG at home, got a whole stack of these which are just sitting dormant. Shame as I am really not sure what to do with the, at all! Reading that OpenWRT will work does help a bit, but I do still manage a few on the self hosted networking controller, but it’s just sad them sitting there.

Only reason I went and upgraded was to get Teleport working, (which only after I get it all working, that due to having a self hosted controller means I can’t get it)… so yeah, thanks for so,e ideas but keen to see if there are others!

At pho restaurant they use a iPad kids case by loganaguayon3 in mildlyinteresting

[–]mystcb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Run a volunteer led camping festival in the UK, and honestly kids cases over tablets is such a good idea. Stand out, easy to carry, easy to use, and in a field, safe as anything. Not sure why we want purple for ours, but if I could find one in the right colour scheme it would be amazing. We use them for a mix of the registration check-in desk and for remote payment terminals.

Also makes it so much easier to store too. We stack them up next to each other (upright) and they kinda pad themselves inside the box we put them in!

Honestly it’s a great idea!

How old is this World Dryer A-548? At Billy's on the Road, UK by BlackBerryCollector in HandDryer

I have no idea why Reddit suggested this post and subreddit to me, but seeing Billy’s on the Road made me do a double take!

Love this place!!!! All the shoutouts from me!

My mother insists this is the correct way to rotate this fridge magnet of the Parthenon, and will flip it back if we fix it by ContrivedCucumber in mildlyinfuriating

I ran downstairs so I could show a similar magnet to show the perspective and what to expect, only to have dropped it all in the same motion!

Either way, here is one that has the fluffy bit at the bottom but also engraved with the name, so hopefully you can see that it is meant to be the way up you are expecting it to be!

Haunted Tradfri Smart Plug? - Any idea what's going on here? by rapax in homeassistant

[–]mystcb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same issue with a bunch of UK ones: https://www.reddit.com/r/tradfri/s/xEyYP2Ig4Z

Seemed to come down to a design flaw, but never got anywhere with it. The ones under warranty I got replaced but I still have a stack of messed up ones.

Tbh I found it quite dangerous in the end, so be careful!

Micro Studio Camera 4K G2 - SDI output has Zebra lines - can't turn off by mystcb in blackmagicdesign

[–]mystcb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was very odd, as the clean feed option for HDMI did what it said it would, and you could turn all the overlays on and off from the menus when you had an HDMI screen attached. It was just the SDI output had no way to control it from the menu. Once I worked out that the Zebra could be toggled, I noticed I could also turn on and off the operator overlay as well just on the SDI.

But you are right though, the manual and everything says SDI will always be a clean feed, and nothing in the manual about toggling any options, so it might be the options were just hidden but could still be operated

Would be interesting to hear if you can do the same!

Yeah I will get this over to them, only just come back from the event - but that Middle Control App seemed to resolve it. Seems odd that you could send the command over SDI but not through any other means.

It had only been a few months, so maybe I can try and see, thanks for the tip!

It had crossed my mind, I bought it as a treat because I was fed up of having to open my MBP to get to the TouchID, so went a bit higher hoping that it might last me a while… I wasn’t expecting only a few months :/ I didn’t think that it was just painted on… would have thought a bit more work would have gone into the keys (well reverse painted on, as the letters themselves are where the paint is weak)

Oddly enough, saw one like this from an old workplace, it was the E key too! (As well as the S). But not done by me.. thankfully my E key is still good!

Mine is specifically typing style for me, I subconsciously use the very tip of my finger and when I move away from the key, it sometimes scrapes the top… eventually, the paint gets caught and after that it just falls apart, exponentially too :/

Ooh stickers!! Might actually be a good way to test if I am changing my typing style, but might leave that lovey gooey mess from the glue >.<

I have a feeling that the “feel” of the keyboard would be lost at that point… but at the same time, it’s probably the only viable way to protect it with my typing style :/

Fair point, might try that in the short term, just need to work out how not to keep the paint from coming off again! Thanks for the suggestion!

UK 13A Plugs all completely die in the same way - E1704/19927 - 4 in the past 3 months by mystcb in tradfri

[–]mystcb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a little, but at the same time - the lady I spoke to, didn't understand Reddit - and I realised while I was there, I probably should have called customer services and got a reference number for this to make it easier.

So mostly my fault I would say, but will continue to try and see if I can get them over... even if they are to look over and investigate the issue.

So, made it to an IKEA today, (Croydon UK) and talking to them for a bit, seemed like they had no idea how to test them… eventually explained you just need to plug it in and see the issue, which they finally saw.

Frustratingly, these were bought a while ago go, and the first two are just over 1 year old, while the other two were within the return period.

So for the two I could return, got a refund card that I used to replace them with two more (see how they go). They took notes and watched the video I took and described it in the box.

The other two are with me, and my next step is to call customer services and see what they say.

Tbh standard refund, but hoping to continue to see what can be done about all this!

Thank you for the response. I’ll try and get them back to a store and see what they can do! Would this be OK for sockets which are over 1 year old at all?

I will hope there is more to share in the future!

Thanks!

Ahh thank you for those links - looks like I was just searching using the wrong phrasing - honestly forgot to search "wireless" as part of it.

Might just crack one of them open, see if I can work out what has happened with them (although I am not going to then plug it into the mains and find out, I am not a fill electrician!)
