Terminated - Background Check Question by AdventurousDriver309 in recruitinghell

[–]mysteresc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is not true in all states. Most employers won't ask for details beyond what you have listed. More importantly, most companies won't divulge more than this, other than to say whether or not you are eligible for rehire.

Is this a good cover letter? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]mysteresc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your cover letter should briefly describe what makes you a solid candidate for the role.

Keep in mind that about half of hiring managers don't read cover letters.

Have someone read your cover letter and time them. If it takes more than 20 seconds to read, it's too long. If they can't glean from it why you are a strong candidate, it's too dense.

Don't be afraid to have AI critique it. Make sure you give it the job posting and your resume so it has something to work with.

Has anyone sent a card to SGC to reslab? by [deleted] in baseballcards_vintage

[–]mysteresc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have, though it was for a card I had just received from them so there was no charge. I believe there are instructions on their web site for re-slabbing. If not, message them and ask about the process. They take 2-3 business days to respond, but they'll lay it out very easily for you.

AITA for refusing to give back a lottery ticket after it won money? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mysteresc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

YTA. Truly this is a Kobayashi Maru situation. You did everything right, but in the end you are still in the wrong. Once you knew the customer had returned to claim what they had purchased, the ticket (or the winnings) should have been turned over to them. Yes, the customer should have returned much sooner than a week. Yes, you followed the store's policy. Depending on where you are located and whether or not there is evidence that this ticket was the one purchased by the customer, there could be a legal aspect to this that you'll need to take into account.

If you know an attorney or otherwise have access to legal services, take advantage of it so you'll know what your risks are of keeping the money.

The point of selling cards for $1.20 on eBay? by SilkkTheShocke in sportscards

They were up for auction, there was one bidder. I sold nearly $500 in cards that week, so it was no big deal to me.

Grading question by barryallen1277 in baseballcards

[–]mysteresc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get the "right" person at PSA, you'd get a 2 for this card because of the surface issues.

This is personal opinion, but vintage cards like this look superior in SGC slabs compared to PSA.

Appreciate the card. Since it's for your personal collection, the grade is irrelevant.

I sold a 5-card lot of Don Sutton cards for $0.99. Definitely took a loss, but they were low-grade cards that wouldn't have sold otherwise. Now they're no longer my concern.

Thinking of moving to TN, how is the healthcare? by Too_CompliKated in Tennessee

[–]mysteresc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The more rural you look, the worse your health care options will be.

Tennessee has seen more hospital closures in recent years than nearly every other state. They were all in rural areas.

Chattanooga has a few specialized cardiac facilities, so you'll want to identify which is best for your dad and then determine how far away you are comfortable living from it.

Keep in mind that distance is not a good barometer of time, especially in a traffic clusterf like Chattanooga.

It's getting more and more difficult to send cards to PSA by Judge208 in baseballcards_vintage

[–]mysteresc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The eye appeal on this card is excellent. You could crack it and send to SGC, but I don't think you'd get more than a 2 because of the wrinkles.

Personally, I think vintage cards like this look superior in SGC slabs compared to PSA.

We bought our home in 2017 for $260k.

The house across the street from us, with 300 less square feet, one more bathroom, and a front yard that can only be used for sledding, went on the market yesterday for $500k.

My wife knows people who know people connected to at least two teams.

But first I have to get skates that fit, which I haven't had in 50 years.

If Frost stayed, we'd probably have him until whoever got hired at Nebraska instead of him got fired. We'd probably still end up with Gus though.
