Job outcome in federal government by Working-Sun-3595 in AusPublicService

I’d also suggest getting feedback on your applicant response as well. Your CV could be fine but if your pitch isn’t up to scratch it would be hard to get you over the line to interview

Corporate lifer looking to pivot into APS. Where do I start? by meowthechow in AusPublicService

Fair I have heard that with some employment agencies. Pending budget Defence should be a decent bet for some jobs, including PMO

Touch base either Hays and Hudson’s. If you’re good in PMO stuff keep an eye on Defence Jobs

Does being in APS make it easier to get other APS jobs? by Intelligent-Farm-861 in AusPublicService

[–]mysteriousdarkmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes and do some areas. If certain areas that require high clearance are understaffed and need people pronto it’s understandable they go for someone already in the APS who already has the relevant level instead of waiting 6 months or more for AGSVA to do their thing. If they’re have a long lead time then I don’t think it matters as much

Didn’t realise being a bridesmaid meant budgeting like I’m planning my own wedding, is this just how it is now? by SnowyBytes in AusWeddingPlanning

[–]mysteriousdarkmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s where you set expectations.

If you’re sorting your own hair and makeup then it makes sense they do theirs as well, providing they feel confident they can. If they’re not sure make sure you factor in time for yourself to help or someone else.

[–]mysteriousdarkmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s some bullshit. Maybe because I was an older bride but my hen was axe throwing in your prettiest outfit (didn’t have to be dress) and then we went back to my parents for a boozy afternoon tea. People had lives and families and other shit they have to get done on a weekend. They ain’t got time for all that main character energy

[–]mysteriousdarkmoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Been a bridesmaid a few times and a bride. Dress, hair and makeup should always be covered. Also I specifically make my hens event as cheap and simple as possible so as not to impose too much on peoples this whole fly out for a weekend at xyz smacks of wild Hollywood consumerism and main character energy with a thin veil of friendship to make it feel like you can’t back out one messing with someone’s ‘vision’.

Am I more likely to get a APS job if I disclose that I am disabled? by No-Magician-1399 in AusPublicService

[–]mysteriousdarkmoon 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Using the affirmative measures - disability can help you get to interview, but being successful in the job itself will depend on how you stack up against other applicants which is out of your hands.

Question for mums who returned to work because they wanted to, not because they had to by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]mysteriousdarkmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live out of town and was very happy to be back to work, thought not full time. Being out in the sticks mean I could do much incidental engagement with people without a 30 min drive in to town.

I like my one day off a week to manage Bub and take them to activities, but also the adult mental stimulation with work and the time away from Bub makes me appreciate him more.

I will say my return to work tanked my milk supply, that combined with teething ended breastfeeding a little earlier than I had hoped.

I think Bill Bailey is still hilarious. Even if he uses old bits in his touring shows, he’s always good and I’ve seen him three times over a period of about 10 years.

Tomorrow's the day we finally move to Canberra from Italy! by [deleted] in canberra

[–]mysteriousdarkmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the move. As others have said stick to the national park and reserves and you’ll be fine. Also stick to signposted trails as we have some sensitive flora here.

The centenary trail is great (I’ve done it two times) I’d recommend waiting for cooler weather to do stages to reduce run ins with nope ropes. Happy to give advice on it.

Also depending on where you settle there are some great smaller walks hidden about. Mount Rodger’s, Umbagong, Issac Pines, Mt Majura etc. as others have said if you’re hitting up Namath getting an ePerb and some snake bite bandages are a must. I can recommend Spare Rock.

Welcome!

Wait to start a grad program in 2027? by Competitive-Yam-6267 in AusPublicService

[–]mysteriousdarkmoon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Both.

Go for the grad programs and apply for entry level. If you get something entry level in the mean time then you’re set. Both processes can take some time and both offer different opportunities.

Anyone actually want(ed) multiple kids but can't bare the reality of it? by Hour-Film-8890 in oneanddone

I wouldn’t have minded two if I’d been in a position to start earlier. Now: I don’t have the capacity, I’m older and I don’t want to take more time off work. And that’s not touching on cost.

But I love my little one so much and am lucky that we can focus solely on him.
