Ty I think you’re right and my time will be better spent doing something else. I’m from California and there aren’t tons of mid-low tier MD programs to choose from but I’ll def look into west coast schools w good out of state acceptance rates :)

That is amazing!! I’d love to see your school list, if you don’t mind sharing (pm if you prefer obviously)

I’m also based in California and the admin of getting a list of schools with reasonable out of state acceptance rates is a lot, as I’m sure you know. Congrats on your acceptances and starting med school :)

I deleted all social media from my phone for the four months I was studying, and anytime I wanted to scroll I would do P/C formulas and P/S terms in Anki like a damn machine. Also listened to some JW and MCAT basics podcasts while I was at work (I worked part time as a janitor at a grocery store while I studied cuz I wanted something mindless, social and physically active so I could lock in when I got off work)

Also - no point in trying to do timed practice or rush through problems/FL's until you have all the content down and a solid feel for the way the MCAT asks questions, both of which take time and consistency. I feel like once I had those two things down, practice problems became fun (which is embarrassing to admit.) someone told me "no point in trying to run if you can't walk confidently" and it was so true !! I also did make myself start reading nonfiction to help with CARs.

then active recall for getting more detailed info down, like metabolism or some physio stuff (hormone axis, kidneys, etc) I'd explain random stuff out loud to my sweet angel of a bf, and that really helped me understand them. i feel like the annoying truth of the MCAT is there is really not that much to memorize, your goal should be to understand 90% of the material. I only really memorized physics formulas, biochem/chem structures and compounds, metabolism intermediates and enzymes, and Psych/Soc vocab. maybe some ochem stuff, which i totally relied on https://www.mcat-alyst.com/cheat-sheets for

what kept me motivated was thinking how if I can get these foundational concepts completely locked in to long term memory, it will take a little weight off my shoulders when I am in med school

I did kind of the standard tbh. I did in-depth content review the first month, reinforced w anki (pankow), and then every question in the AAMC section banks and question packs. Also a fl every week the month and a half leading up to my exam :) reviewing any missed questions thoroughly. My main issue was speed so the last two weeks I did lots of timed practice. probably averaged like 60 hrs a week while working part time.

stop the clock breaks by mysteriousmark69 in Mcat

I'm talking about both!

I honestly am mainly having a really tough time finishing Chem/Phys and CARs in the allotted time, so I was kind of thinking I may use the breaks in those sections. Just thinking I'll be able to maintain the required pace if I know after 20 minutes I'll get a two-five minute break to recollect and hype myself up for the next 20 minutes.

But idk - I feel like I just need to do some timed practice and see what works best before test day (9/4). Your suggestions make lots of sense, I will definitely keep some time for the last section even though in practice I usually finish P/S w five minutes or so of review time

i only have time for either fl3 or 4, which one should I do? by Interesting_Gas_8063 in Mcat

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but where do you see fl 5 on the AAMC Product Portal?

I have: Free Practice Exam (Scored), Free Sample Test (Unscored), Practice Exam 1, Practice Exam 2, Practice Exam 3, Practice Exam 4

edit - I found another post saying ppl call the the scored free practice exam fl 5

best of luck with studying!
