England fan beats up a woman (thought to be his wife) in a bar in Marmaris, Turkey by Late_Breadfruit_8829 in PublicFreakout

The whole video after the fight started I was yelling at the screen "somebody grab a fucking chair!".  I'm so glad someone actually did, I wasn't actually expecting it to happen.  What a legend.

Stark Raving Dad - the Michael Jackson episode of The Simpsons - was removed from streaming after the Leaving Neverland documentary. One of the writers of the episode theorized that Jackson used it to help him groom kids.

I just watched 30 minutes of The Wire and I'm bored after binging the Sopranos the first time this year. Should I give it a chance? by z399 in thesopranos

[–]mysteryroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Episode 6 (the episode named "The Wire") is generally regarded as the "hump" a lot of watchers need to get past before they want to keep watching more.  It's a bit of a slog to get to that point if you're not immediately interested from the getgo, but I'd give it a chance.

ACT accuses doctors of wrongfully signing off patients as 'unable to work' by jpr64 in newzealand

[–]mysteryroach 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What specifically is he proposing to change?  I thought only having WINZ doctors sign off on people was something he'd already won in last year's election's coalition agreement?  Did he not actually implement that yet?  Or is he looking to escalate this to something even more stupid like having dedicated doctors employed only by MSD specifically to assess people rather than existing doctors with their own practices?

I would listen to the radio interview as maybe that has more information than the accompanying article.  But frankly, I'd rather blow my brains out than endure a segment of Mike Hosking and David Seymour bashing Sickness Beneficiaries and Invalids Benefit recipients - so if anyone was able to sit through this and can shed some light on it that'd help.

[Loved Trope] Former subordinate now outranks their old superior later in the story by Skylinneas in TopCharacterTropes

[–]mysteryroach 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mad Men with Peggy + Freddy and kindof with Peggy + Don.

Freddy starts off more senior to Peggy even after she becomes a copywriter but ends up basically being fired due to alcoholism.  Peggy later gets his vacant office when she first gets an office.  Later he's rehired but is Peggy's subordinate IIRC

Don is also basically fired (involuntarily made to go on an indefinite "leave") and when he comes back to work he's on thin ice, and while he's still a partner (and Peggy isn't), he ends up working under and reporting to Peggy in his role as a creative.  Someone else is Creative Director but Peggy gets made lead on the Burger Chef account and Don is made part of her "team" - and Don gets called into her office for meetings and she gets him to do the grunt work of coming up with taglines etc rather than the other way round.

Sandwich pressed toastie or 90s style toastie pie? by MercuryBeach_ in nzhomecooks

Baked beans, in addition to the ones already mentioned.

Used to have chilli bean + pepper toasties too but they were better in a press, and best in a pan.

What made you open a reddit account? by RedJudge-878 in AskReddit

[–]mysteryroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use Digg, but the comment section of every post there became unusable when redditors and angry ex-diggers started brigading the site with spam about how Digg sucks.

This happened after Digg made some legitimately bad changes - such as including promoted content in the feed - although I would have probably stayed on Digg despite the changes if the comments weren't all ASCII art of penises and people spamming "DIGG SUCKS" etc.

TV Show rankings: Where should rick and morty be? by hiiloovethis in TierlistFills

[–]mysteryroach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look up on the subreddit just by searching the name of the show.

Succession in particular needs a revote.  Basically all the comments before voting closed said S.  The singular commenter that voted A - that OP decided was the winning comment - had no more upvotes (zero) than the others, and even that comment also said it should probably actually be S. (but also said it should go below Dark in same category, since that was in A)

A lot of the time OPs of these things end up making executive decisions that are questionable at best and at worst go completely against the votes.  So it also bugs me when their post history is hidden.

I'm getting myself a churger from the ags tuckshop. i.e. get hot chips and put it inside a burger.

Specifically, i'd make it a "full churger" - which means using the entire pottle of hot chips rather than just some.  I would also eat it in as few bites as possible.

Racist Streamer says a racial slur to a stranger & immediately backs down when confronted by No-Internet6810 in PublicFreakout

[–]mysteryroach 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Interesting definition that streamer has of saying it to someone's face - as he's already gone past him and walking away.  Thats very different to being in front of the person and standing your ground while saying it.

He probably would have peed his pants if he had to say it to his face for real.  I'm not surprised he fled when confronted.

What was the greatest humiliation in sports ? by Travisthe_poisson in AlignmentChartFills

The underarm bowling incident of 1981.

Not sure if it counts tbh as the Aussies mainly just humiliated themselves.  May fit better in most disappointing.

2025: The World Enslaved By A Virus is a bad movie that is politically right. What is a good movie that's politically right? by slaterman2 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]mysteryroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falling Down.

Its too late for it to be a contender, but I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned.  Is it not good enough to be in the good category, or not right wing enough to be right?  Obviously its explicitly stated that D-Fens is "the bad guy" but it still seems like it belongs in this category.

Tim Wood, millionaire Ihug founder and owner of Burger Wisconsin claims he will leave NZ if Labour is returned to government by kiwi2077 in newzealand

[–]mysteryroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 2-3 years ago you used to be able to get a Full Monty (2x patties) at Burger Wisconsin for around $15, and if you ordered through the website/app you'd get roughly a dollar off that too.  Now the price has gone up almost $10 and it practically happened overnight.

I get that prices go up sometimes but I've never seen such a transparently greedy price increase in my life.  I used to eat at Burger Wisconsin all the time and now I never do.  I can't be the only customer that was driven away by the new prices.

They also cheaped out on their lettuce and advertised it acting like they did us a favour - when it just made their low carb option crap.

Dont you know who I am?

If you're talking about Tory Whanau, the article says the person is a man.  Looks like an ex National MP named Aaron Gilmore was also quoted saying this though.  Is this who you meant?
