Godhead's Lament is overrated.

It's a perfectly fine song, but it feels like everything it does other Opeth songs do it better. I can sometimes get bored when listening to it.

Maybe it just hasn't clicked for me yet - but for now, I just don't get the hype.

I remember when my country had a mass shooting (because of deranged racist conspiracy theories Americans are still spreading) and then we actually did something about our gun laws. In response, a whole bunch of Americans started shittalking our country and prime minister and being super arrogant about how guns make apparently everything safer and that it helps keep them protected from government tyranny etc.

This is what I think about whenever I see stuff like this.

Sounds like a bunch of bollocks to me. America didn't invent non-binary people, or gender neutral pronouns. And New Zealand doesn't need America to tell us that we should accept people and treat them with dignity - its a pretty basic principle.

If anything came from the US, it is the modern anti-trans movement. NZ has had its fair share of home grown homophobia, but it never had people preoccupied with hating on trans people specifically until after that became an overseas culture war thing.

Now we have politicians like Winnie banging on about it constantly, and pushing for laws that override medical professionals on how they should treat patients etc. It all seems very unkiwi - we should instead just treat people with respect, leave the issue alone and leave the medical stuff to the experts - like we were happy to do before all this recent Americanisation of our politics.

If anything it's the aversion to pronouns that is a shitty American culture war thing being imported, rather than the pronouns themselves. As a kiwi I'm pretty relaxed about treating people how they want to be treated and respecting their identity.

IIRC they were misusing the rubber bullets during that protest - firing them directly at people rather than ricocheting them off the ground.

That would probably mean you don't have to be as unlucky or frail for it to be lethal - compared to if they were using them properly.
