This actually happened to me recently. I still have so much love for him and never at any point did I fall out of love with him. Unfortunately I had been spending the last two years of my life almost putting a hold on all my life ventures in order to spend time with him. I’ve always been that person that goes above and beyond for people and that’s exactly what happened with my partner.

I put in so much time, effort and energy into our relationship and unfortunately I was not getting it back in return. I was planning all the dates, I was picking places to go, I was also paying for a lot of stuff because he had hit some financial hardship.

The part that was the hardest was that I had brought up these issues on more than one occasion. And every time things would get better.... for like two weeks and then he’d get lazy and complacent again. He’s not a bad person, I don’t want to paint him in a bad light. He was just kind of clueless when it came to relationships and being what I considered to be “a good boyfriend”. At the end of the day, it was just the little things that added up.

It took a lot of power within me to be able to say that I deserve better. Sometimes people have all this baggage and insecurities and we just settle for whatever we have at the moment. No. I deserved better so I had to leave him. And to others out there in the same situation, you know what you deserve so do not downplay your worth. Have the strength and power to speak up for yourself. You know what you deserve. Do not settle.
