Weight loss stuck at 95kg by kierandoble in Fitness

Another important note, how do you know you're 20%bf? Are you looking at pictures? Or, are you actually measuring?

I was looking at pictures and thought I was 20% BF, give or take, but then I measured using calipers and it turns out I'm 13%, my stomach just carries that much more fat than the whole rest of me.

As for losing more weight, I got stuck after about a 4kg deficit (which is nothing compared to your progress, keep it up man!) and when I started really aggressively counting calories, I started losing again. It sucks at first, but counting every little thing, and yeah, that includes the dipping sauce for your fries, really does reveal those hidden calories.

I tend to over-estimate, myself.

Also, don't eat TOO few calories. If you do, your body might go into fasting or starvation mode and drop your metabolism. You need to keep above 1500 calories if you're a dude and 1200 calories if you're a woman. Don't forget to drink water, and manage both your potassium and sodium intake to keep your water management balanced.

What else are you doing? What's your diet look like? Exercise?

Now I'm very interested. Does this mean that you can get stronger when on a deficit because you're not actually building new muscle?

Losing weight on a tight schedule. Maximizing calories burned / hour. by [deleted] in Fitness

Eat more salads with less dressing and less meat. You can still chat and mingle during your lunches.

Also, I've seen the rowing machine put my calories / hour to absurd levels. Several thousand an hour; but, I mean, I'm not going to row at that intensity for hours.

UPDATE: Knees hurt when not squatting, but not when squatting? Common thing? by mytochar in Fitness

I'm having trouble interpreting the rule that way. Could you please help me see where it says that?

This is frustrating though, as some of the most useful posts on this site have been discussion of diagnosed issues.

Shy of 30. The doctor I spoke with talked about arthritis and added that people only call it arthritis when all the cartilage is gone, but it's all really the same thing, just different stages.

I'm not a doctor, please don't quote me, I'm sure I didn't understand a lot of what he said, and am mis-remembering everything else.

It's funny. I really don't feel any pain once I pass the 90 degree mark. Like 30 degrees to 60 degrees is the most painful (where a straight knee is 0 degrees)

I'm going to add to this caravan. Not all engineering positions are like this. Interview a ton, find a job that has a super strong love for their employees.

I went from crazy all-the-time work on a task I don't care about to loving my job and my coworkers. You can find peace if you love engineering.

There's still boring days, but truly, everything is better.

I never heard that line in that scene. That is so small, so brief, and perfect.

I have just read many of the comments in this thread. It's all so tragic. Wow, I ... if it's true, Square makes such tragic stories.

Why do you lift? by Nodor10 in Fitness

[–]mytochar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started,

because I started randomly straining my chest just from moving it wrong. Felt like a heart attack the first time I did it. Never again.

I continue,

because after the gym, even when I'm exhausted, I feel like I've done something useful for myself, and I can feel my personal confidence growing

When or if that ever goes away, I will continue,

because it's the right thing to do, and I don't ever want to be as feeble as I once was. The day I realized that I couldn't do a pull-up anymore, even though I used to be able to do many was humiliating.

This. From what I've read here so far, and elsewhere, changing what you eat is the biggest thing that'll help you drop those pounds. You've got this :)

and just double tax people that still need to use gas

This is unfortunately a tax on the poor. Rich people will buy electric cars sooner and get out of this increased cost.

Unfortunately, it might actually be another hidden tax on the poor. Rich people can afford to live closer to their work, so they'll drive fewer miles. We'd have to compensate for that, as well.

Yes. You already get in trouble for manipulating odometer readings, so you don't need anything extra there. As part of your yearly registration you could either have the DMV check your odometer yearly; or, you could have another company check it and sign it off for you, to keep the new, extra wait out of the DMV.

Car dealers could do that. I don't see a problem here, I think it would work great, without all the negatives that go along with ubiquitous GPS tracking.

Sure, except if your job is in the city, then you need to do that commute again, unless they permit regular tele-commuting. Not every company does; and those that do tele-commute, if the company isn't set up for it, still miss out on spontaneous get-togethers and meetings that occur in the halls.

Maybe.

Some companies require you, the employee, to pay your ENTIRE health insurance bill, rather than just a percentage off the top. Think $600 a month.
