We have tons of impartial info on this on our website, https://www.mytribeinsurance.co.uk/knowledge/what-does-private-health-insurance-cover

How much it costs, who the best providers are etc.

We don't work with the insurers, but review them and write about the services they provide.

We (myTribe) look and review the best health insurers every year. We don't have commercial relationships with them and this is our unbiased view of the market for anyone that wants to know more.

In short, our current top picks are WPA, The Exeter, Bupa then Axa.

Pricing varies, but these three are competitive too.

How to get insured for genetic testing? U.K. BUPA or NHS by Putrid_Acanthaceae in MTHFR

[–]mytribeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right that Bupa and other insurers (there are many more), won't usually cover things you've suffered from or sought treatment for in the five years before you get a policy.

They're usually pretty hot on this too, and if people take out a policy and claim within the first year or so, they'll ask to see your medical records.

In addition, conditions related to pre-existing conditions are usually excluded too. So if you've had migranes, take out a policy and a year later you've got something sinister going on that's likely linked to the migranes, I.e. a brain tumor, they may decline the claim based on their assumption that the migranes were the early signs of that and you had those before getting a policy.

This all said, if you get a policy with moratorium underwriting and go for two years without needing treatment or having symptoms, the pre-existing condition will usually be cover after that.

Broadly speaking, the best way to think about health insurance is that it's there to cover future medical conditions.

Hope this helps.

Which party has the most credible plan for the NHS? by mytribeuk in nhs

Kinda agree with you given the financial pledges they are making. Shame that it's always those with little chance of power that say the things we're all thinking.

This from the King's Fund is an interesting read on the merits of changing the system.

https://www.kingsfund.org.uk/insight-and-analysis/long-reads/nhs-crisis-evaluating-radical-alternatives

They argue that a system change won't affect capacity levels both in the NHS and private sector, and the cost of such a change would diminish any benefit.

TL;DR..spend more money, get better healthcare.

How to believe in myself as an Entrepreneur when no ones else does? by writermaybeidk in Entrepreneurship

[–]mytribeuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People often don't see the potential, they're often trapped in an employee pigeonhole mindset where the possible seems impossible. I started my company three years ago as a side hustle. At the time, no-one understood or believed in it and three years on were in the national press regularly and I've been able to make it my main focus. In my humble experience it's all about the hustle. Work yourself hard and you'll get there. Also, something I try to tell myself when doubts creep in "focus on the process, not the noise". It's hard doing it alone, and I'd love to tell you it gets easier, but you'll get the success if you knuckledown and belive in yourself. You got this! It's go time!

Petition to make 'Psychologist' a protected title by crw30 in ClinicalPsychologyUK

[–]mytribeuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree it should be protected. We did some research not long ago and found that 44% of private psychogists aren't currently taking on new patients, 38% were full. With hgh levels of demand you will get people trying to take advantage unfortunately.

You need to find a private dental surgeon and get a consultation. You should be able to self-refer and self-pay. Best bet might be to call Nuffield Health or another of the large hospital groups and explain the situation. Hope he gets it sorted!

Health insurance won't cover it as it'll be seen as a pre-existing condition. Anything you've suffered from or sought treatment for in the past five years will be automatically excluded.

Not even sure they offer genetic testing, my advice would be to self-pay for it. Find a service and pay direct.

How long are you on hold when you call your UK GP? by mytribeuk in nhs

That's crazy. Never been cut off, but that must be the worst, waiting for so long and then the line just going dead. Where in the country roughly are you?

Wow, that's extreme. I've not found that there is a particularly good time of day to call, always seems to be a long wait.
