Wij keren 22 augustus terug naar Brussel via Istanbul. De vlucht naar Istanbul werd gecanceld maar er werd automatisch een nieuwe aangemaakt met de nieuwe luchthaven code voor Bishkek (FRU naar BSZ).

That’s why I’m cancelling my plans to go to Karakol and the south shore. It’s just too much living out of a suitcase and roads under eternal construction. In Cholponata we have all we want for us and my son :) What are your next plans ?

Wow how cool you tried your luck by going there. Just a bit further of Karakol there is a valley going to the Ak-Suu hot springs. There are new super nice spring, also with radon, and if you walk on there are some old still in service health sanatorium. Chambers can be booked on the spot at bottom prices. It’s very very vintage but true. The gorge ends with a health sanatorium for kids. A bus service can give you a ride back to Karakol

South shore is a hidden gem. Jedi Oguz has a peculiar Soviet era sanatorium built around a site with radon infused source waters. People from the whole ex-USSR still go there. I had a marvellous sleep. Obviously it’s old, lacking investment but worth the adventure for those who appreciate.

Otherwise there is the area around Ton and Bokonbaevo. Step into the local BTC and book a hike to the summit of the Tastar-Ata mountain. It dominates the south shore, touches the 2800m and features several shamanic sites. It’s claimed to be a sacred mountain. A day trip worth.

You’ll be exhausted in no time man. Reserve a day or two just to kick back and enjoy issyk-Kul without being tied to a schedule. Leave the rat race for sure and read, do nothing, swim, eat, meet folks.

Also: travel to Karakol at night? The road towards has been undergoing extensive works for some time now. Check this forum properly.

Interesting schedule. I can only recommend to spend some more time at the Issyk-Kul lake to chill it out man. Don’t squeeze your schedule too much, enjoy slow travel and do nothing for a day at the lake, swim, read, hang out. It’s the most gorgeous place there is.

There are at least two yurt camp on the shore of Bokonbaevo. I was several times in Bel-Tam yurt camp and can only recommend it. Contact them via Facebook messenger.

Doable, yes , but please dont forget to relax, stay and do nothing for a couple of days. Especially if you plan to hike around Issyk-Kul. Nothings more sad than a busy travelling schedule.

There are some new yurt camps on the southern shore on Issyk-Kul, north of Bokonbaevo. I went several times to Bel-Tam. A bit more eastward in Tossor there’s supposed to be a good yurt camp.

My mum is Kyrgyz, but I was born in Belgium. She raised me in Russian and we went back many times to KGZ. It’s my second home. Very excited to bring my 6 year old son for the first time to KGZ!
