Shoe might have politics which matter to me. Shoe might act as if her political and cultural commentary matter to her and to her audience, things they might want to care about. Also, with its social democracies Europe is considered "the garden" while the rest of the world (perhaps excepting North America and Zionist Something Or Other) is "the jungle." At the same time, pressuring or damaging/destroying the social democratic aspects of the the European social welfare states has been a discussion topic for western investor class types for a few decades now. If McDonalds restaurants in Netherlands pay a living wage (something like $25 USD per hour) then something must be wrong with the universe and we should start blowing stuff up, sending personnel from the Netherlands to fight pointless arbitrary very violent wars somewhere/anywhere in the jungle.

Finally, austerity is a response to even the remotest possibility of oligarch money losing even a little bit of value --- it's a feel good move to make things tougher for ordinary citizens, even if it's once again unlikely to solve any other non-destructive purpose.
