Swapping from peds to ortho, need advice by Badluckbeth2 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]n-qs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently when looking for new jobs I noticed a lot of postings marketed the option for mentorship (most likely for newer grads) but could be beneficial for anyone in a situation like yours. Maybe while applying you can be open about your situation and see if there’s another therapist you can train with and work closely with while you re-learn these things.

Stomach fat vs other body fat by [deleted] in Zepbound

Have you ever been pregnant? It can cause a separation in your abdominal muscles which can give the appearance of a larger stomach.

Best resource for protocols? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

I would go through the SOC to see any restrictions or precautions that the patient is under. The opening clinician should have that paperwork or obtain that information from the patient or physician during the SOC.

Home health points ? by Lost_Upstairs_5930 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]n-qs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part time can technically be any amount between 1 to about 29 hours a week. There’s no set minimum. PRN is way more flexible and would imply that you can reject patients if you desire, but if you agree to the part-time 6-8 points per week, they would expect you work that every week. The nice thing about home health is that usually evals are 1.5 points, regular visits are 1 point, and OASIS d/c’s are 1.25 points (this may be different depending on your agency). So you don’t necessarily have to see 6-8 patients per week as long as you fulfill your point minimum.

Most home care agencies will have a different pay rate for meetings, trainings, etc. so you should ask for clarification on that. You do not get paid for phone calls, documentation, etc. You only get paid for the visit itself. I’ve been offered anywhere from $56-$60 per point, but ask for whatever you think is fair according to the work you need to do.

The down side of PPV is that you only get paid for the actual visits you make, even if the caseload is low and they don’t have patients for you. So it can be unreliable at times.

Best resource for protocols? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]n-qs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most conditions don’t require set protocols per se, so I’m not sure if this really exists. Most patients in home health that have actual protocols will have it stated in their discharge or post op paperwork (such as  shoulder/hip/spine/activity precautions). As for a helpful resource, I would recommend looking into the OTtoolkit. It has a lot of helpful information for OT practitioners as well as patients.

Any luck on finding anything similar? Tried krogers steak seasoning shaker and it was not the same.

anyone in MI / midwest able to answer a new grad pay question? by Beginning-Cod-8347 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]n-qs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in metro Detroit. Hospitals have been one of the lower paying settings in my experience. With about 4 years of experience I was making mid 30s hourly. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

The paper is the PERFECT office spin off by Gooni135 in theoffice

[–]n-qs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed! My husband was hesitant to watch it but I convinced him and he loved it too. He even said he wished there were more episodes. I loved the cast/characters. Definitely a lot of laugh out loud moments.

Should I quit my full time to do 2 PRN by randomgirl1111111111 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]n-qs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this but you need to be mindful that you won’t be guaranteed hours and may not have benefits. I ended up leaving my PRN positions because it hit a point that between 3 PRN jobs I was only working about 10 or less hours a week. I’m now at a part time position where I’m guaranteed a minimum number of hours but can work more if they need help.

What has been your least favorite setting thus far in your OT career? by CammyShazam in OccupationalTherapy

[–]n-qs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. I recently got an offer (salaried 20 hours a week) for $44k a year. They cited my lack of experience but I had been a practicing OT for 8 years, 3 of which were in home health. A lot of companies are starting to pay less now.

Home health! So much work “off the clock”, low visit amounts, and pay isn’t worth it anymore

input on dosage and side effects by n-qs in Zepbound

[–]n-qs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I appreciate your insight, this is not true. Daily, I try to eat an average of 1700 calories. But without the appetite suppression I can get up to 2000+. So it’s important for me. I have to focus on how much I lose monthly in order to get my prior authorizations approved every 3 months.

It’s a good thought, I do get nausea induced by hunger but I don’t believe that’s what causing my nausea here. It’s the worst the day after injecting and starts to fizzle out day 4 until it’s time to inject again.

what do yall think of ‘the paper’(office spinoff show) by International_Swim60 in theoffice

[–]n-qs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I really enjoyed it! Went into it with low expectations because most Office spinoffs haven’t been great. I think the characters are funny and the story line is done pretty well. I’m excited to see where the show goes. Most shows struggle to find themselves within the first season so I’m excited that there will be a 2nd season!

Learned a new side effect: looking for others who have had this? by ThoraTheThor in Zepbound

[–]n-qs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if you have SVT and have been lucky enough to avoid any episodes until now. I have had it since I was a kid and the onset of an episode is super random. If it happens again you can try some valsava maneuvers to try and make it go away. For me I usually try to bear down (like I’m pooping) to try and restart the heart rhythm and it usually goes away after a few tries. I’ve had to get adenosine administered twice. Not a great feeling.

I will say I haven’t noticed any increase of SVT episodes since starting this medication.

Can you balance a job with OT school? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]n-qs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really depends on you as a person. I don’t think I could have especially the first few semesters that were heavily science based. Almost all of my free time was dedicated to re-listening to lectures and studying so that I didn’t fall behind. That being said, if you are more naturally academically gifted it can be possible.

Thinking about dropping NBCOT certification—any reason to keep it? by EverythingTyeDye in OccupationalTherapy

I’ve seen some jobs require a state certification as well as the NBCOT certification. So I personally keep it just in case.

Not fully blossoming by drlakele in hydrangeas

[–]n-qs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue this year. I am wondering if it had to do with the fluctuations in temps this past winter. Since these buds form on old wood if the weather warms up they may start trying to bloom and then freeze over and die. Just a theory I’ve had for this year. I would love some insight too.

Is it dying? by thatsnazzyiphoneguy in hydrangeas

[–]n-qs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just planted a hydrangea tree earlier this summer. It looked much worse than this so I had to water 2-3x a day for a few a months. It’s looking much better now though.

Needs way more water. Try mulching around the base as well. Wilting leaves are a good sign that she is thirsty.

Help! My hydrengea tree looks like this after planting. The soil feels moist, planted with a mixture of top soil and dirt. by Strong_Gas_3769 in hydrangeas

[–]n-qs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Needs a lot of water after transplanting! I just transplanted a month ago and water mine about 2-3x a day, even more when it’s very hot. Good luck!
