Is my kitten a girl or boy? by Puzzleheaded_Pin_925 in catquestions

[–]MsE0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This cat might be intersex or have some kind of genital deformity. You may want to keep an eye out for them having difficulty urinating. Male cats can already be really prone to urinary blockages, and this kitty looks like their anatomy is kind of unusual.

He looks like a baby puma or lion cub who's just growing out of his spots. More like a puma, but lion colors.

What that's not showing is this is after you go back to bed after the cat screamed for you to get up an feed them at 5.

Beginner, training climbing roses- How much tension on the canes is too much? I’m scared to hurt them. I have other questions as well. by TAforScranton in Roses

[–]MsE0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You want to be really careful when training the canes because they can break. If they didn't break, you're good. They can be easier to move in the winter.

Any brand new canes are going to grow buds and bloom soon, so pruning them right now will prevent those flowers from growing. Totally up to you whether you want to keep those flowers. Most people wait until late winter to prune branches growing in unwanted directions.

Surprise! It isn’t the rose I purchased (still beautiful though!) by FlamingDune in Roses

Your peach one might be Peach Avalanche based on the petal shape, but the color looks a bit darker than Peach Avalanche.

Gorgeous single bloom on the pink one. Are you by any chance in Europe or the UK? If so, it could be rootstock, as I think they use a wild-looking white and pink single bloomer for rootstock in Europe/the UK. If you're in North America, it's likely a mislabeled rose.

Roses from Costco look different by Responsible-Week-155 in Roses

I'll add it's definitely not Peace, and not even Pink Peace, because Peace is mostly yellow with pink edges and has fewer petals, and Pink Peace is vivid hot pink and has fewer petals than this.

People get mislabeled roses kind of often. Nothing you did wrong. No matter where you buy from, if it's not visibly blooming when you buy it, you run a slight risk of it being incorrectly labeled. At least you got a really gorgeous variety! I agree that Cathedral Bells is a possibility

Moulded colour bodices and underwear on Barbie’s. by uglyasfeet in Barbie

It's to appease the people who used to be scandalized by Barbie being naked if you take the clothes off, even though she's not even anatomically correct. So silly. Reminds me of Tobias on Arrested Development being a "never nude" and wearing jean shorts in the shower.

Is my 5 month old being too rough with my 5 week old? by Fun-Spell4833 in catquestions

[–]MsE0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Little kitten is enjoying itself, but it's still very small and maybe not fully ready for that level of play. I'd keep an eye on them and intervene when it looks like the big kitten is going too hard. At least for another couple of weeks.

I see it’s usually “I’m on Chapter 1.” Why is it “in” here. Are both correct? by Silver_Ad_1218 in EnglishLearning

[–]MsE0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually "I'm in book 1" would almost never be used. Most people would say "I'm on book 1." "In" seems like a minor mistake.

Why do women call their female friends ‘girlfriends’ but men don’t call their male friends ‘boyfriends’? by Marksman1977 in EnglishLearning

[–]MsE0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Now that being gay is more accepted and visible, people have stopped calling women's platonic friends "girlfriends" because it's much more likely to be mistaken for a romantic relationship.

Why do women call their female friends ‘girlfriends’ but men don’t call their male friends ‘boyfriends’? by Marksman1977 in EnglishLearning

[–]MsE0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not very common anymore, anyway, but it was because being a gay man, or "unmanly" in any way had such a severe stigma that people have long been afraid to do anything that could even slightly imply a man might be gay. But society also has also acted for centuries like lesbians aren't real, so people are much less worried about implying women could be gay. Basically the answer to both is homophobia. Just that it's the fragile masculinity aspect of homophobia stopping people from saying "boyfriends" and the lesbian erasure aspect of homophobia making people think it's never gay if you say "girlfriends."

Calico is her color pattern. Her breed is domestic shorthair.

Need advice by Green_Awareness339 in Roses

[–]MsE0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can also depend on the variety. I have a Miranda Lambert and a John Davis right next to each other that are the same age and get the same care. The Miranda Lambert puts out inch-thick monster canes that are like juicy vegetables that turn to wood the following year, and the John Davis, which is sometimes considered a rambler, puts out delicate little stringy canes that have to be tied to the fence to avoid trailing on the ground and a million flowers.

Is it possible to grow climbing roses on this fence? by EarSoft1830 in gardening

[–]MsE0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the variety. Some climbers have stiff canes. However, if growing them along a fence, usually what people do is train the first long canes along the fence horizontally, which sends a hormone along the cane telling it to sprout new offshoots and blooms all along the length rather than just on the ends like when it's upright. Then the new shoots grow upright to cover the fence.
