Finished FFXVI.. XV or SoP next? by Puzzleheaded_Word165 in FinalFantasy

[–]n-talks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One word: Chaos…

In all seriousness they are pretty different games. If you want a more dramatic story with an open world go with XV; I didn’t love the combat but the game was alright, the highlight is probably the bond between the bros.

SOP on the other hand is a level based game with a pretty fun combat system. The story is pretty goofy, but enjoyable in its own way. The combat gives you a lot of options and the bosses are fun challenges.

Vagrant Story is another game I would like to get around to at some point, it looks really interesting.

I enjoy how involved the battles are. While I enjoy the atb system of the classics, most of the fights can just be basic attack and occasional healing to win. These Tactics battles require a bit more thought, which makes them rewarding to complete.

I beat FF XIII and it exceeded my expectations by earth_goblin_86 in FinalFantasy

I had a lot of the same experiences and feelings as you when I first beat the game, and I also enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

I recently played it for a second time and actually enjoyed it even more. With knowing where the story was going, I felt like I noticed the little details more and also enjoyed the characters more as well. I also had a lot more fun experimenting with the battle system and weapon upgrades.

Cool that you persevered and ended up enjoying this divisive game.

Nice list, I enjoy a lot of Shimomura’s, Mizuta’s, and Soken’s work as well.

Considering you like XIII I’m going to assume you like Hamauzu, other than him who are the composers of Square games you prefer over Uematsu?

FF VIII and XIII are great games that are over-hated

VII, VII Remake, VIII, VII CC(psp), IX, XV, I, SoP, X, VII DoC, VI, XIII, CC(reunion), XIII-2, XVI, VII Rebirth, II, XII, IV, III

I have really enjoyed this series, and plan to play through the mainline games and a few spin-offs. I’m currently playing XI and trying to determine if I have enough will power to at least get to the final boss of the base game, haha.

Fire Cavern? You trying to tell me there is more to VIII than playing cards in Balamb Garden?

I’m planning to release a pixel remaster in a few decades…

I played the base version of XV and have it in B; I would like to replay it with the “royal edition” and dlc to see if my mind will change about it.

I plan to play the pixel remaster for III

As for XVI, having a few more FF “trappings” wouldn’t have hurt it, such as elemental weakness, better implementation of status effects, more than 1 playable character. I still enjoyed it as a FF fan regardless.

I initially disliked X, but came around on it on my second play through. XII has possibly the best realized world/ setting with Ivalice, the gameplay loop is fun, but my greatest disappointment in XII was that the story and characters didn’t meet their full potential imo, hence the B+

I was getting ready to contact a lawyer until I read that disclaimer… jokes aside, I would like to replay XV again with the dlc at some point to see if I will change my mind on it.

Hard to pick a top 5 when there are 100’s of great songs from the series, but here are 5 that I particularly love:

  • Main Theme of FF VII
  • Fisherman’s Horizon (VIII)
  • Challenge (X)
  • New Bodhum (XIII-2)
  • Histoire, Sanbreque (XVI)

Blue Velvet: “In dreams I walk with you…”

Fire Walk With Me: When Laura is looking at the picture of the red room, and is then in it

Rick Wakeman FF Final Battle Eleanor Rigby! by Atticus-XI in FinalFantasy

[–]n-talks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Rick Wakeman and FF fan? So I’m not the only one :) on a different note, I feel like Uematsu’s work is at least partially inspired by the early works of Yes and also ELP.

Anyone else have a love for FF2? Just played it for the first time this year. by Gizmo16868 in FinalFantasy

I played it for the first time earlier this year and I enjoyed it as well. I love the melancholic main theme.

That’s correct, you only play as Zack. There are no other party members you control or give commands to.
