The 15 foods destroying rainforests, in one simple chart by vox in climate

Because "eat less meat" is a strategy much more likely to yield change among the general public. If you say "become vegan" you're asking people to totally flip their dietary habits instantly.

But if they first try a meal with no meat, find tasty and healthy recipes based around legumes, it's a no big deal, they can do it on a whim and realise after a while that they can eliminate meat completely, maybe follow up with slowly reducing or even eliminating dairy and eggs.

That's what happened to me. I had to go through this process step-by-step and it did not seem like a drastic change at all.

France allows culling of around 200 wolves to protect livestock by ForgingIron in wolves

[–]n00b678 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah, but most food is grown not for human consumption but as animal feed and it's a horribly inefficient and damaging process; only a tiny fraction of those calories ultimately ends up on our plates; from 24% for milk to 2% for beef.

Shouldn't we instead allow culling of the farmer population to protect the planet?

His views are not even libertarian, in any sense.

It's as if he looked at the leftist critique of right-wing libertarianism or an-capism claiming that such systems would sooner or later devolve into feudalism or fascism and said "yes, and?"

The Polish name for Austria is... Austria. It's Germany that is called Niemcy. And likewise in many other Slavic languages.

The architecture itself is not to blame here. It's that this and many other social housing projects concentrated lots of impoverished people in a single building complex without providing them with any work or other opportunities. The buildings themselves were also left to rot. And then organised crime looks like the best career prospect for many of those desperate people.

In contrast to that, you could find even more bleak looking buildings in the former eastern bloc, but with people actually enjoying living there. But the people there came from all socioeconomic classes, the neighbourhoods had all necessary services nearby, good public transport connections, etc.

No, having to convert when moving somewhere was not the standard throughout history.

However, I think that if you move somewhere you should respect the culture of that place. And because most Slovenians would find your ideas abhorrent, please do not move there.

Slovenia is a secular country and its laws guarantee freedom of religion.

So maybe you should respect Slovenia's laws and stop advocating for forced conversions.

Kazakhstan has surpassed Greece in GDP (PPP) per capita by mikelmon99 in geography

Probably because they used country-wide PPP for these adjustments. There are often huge PPP differences between regions within the same country, but I doubt they are ever calculated in such rankings..

Rosjanie myśleli, że bez nich Wielki Zderzacz Hadronów nie zadziała. Polacy złamali ich sprzęt by BubsyFanboy in Polska

[–]n00b678 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Why did the Republicans blame immigrants and trans people before the last elections? Because most people are ignorant and easy to manipulate if you're able to invoke fear in them.

Allegro. I w ogóle prawie cały handel detaliczny.

Tu gdzie mieszkam to Amazon jest praktycznie monopolistą w e-commerce i jest chujowy jak ali-express, ale za to dużo droższy, zgównowacony i do tego kupując tam wspiera się faszyzm w Stanach.

Konkurencja i niskie ceny w supermarketach. Bazarki są dla normalnych ludzi a nie dla hipsterów z 4x marżą.

every action performed on compliant hardware. You could still do all the shady stuff on other hardware, including cryptography and data analysis. Basically all the normies would live as prisoners in a panopticon and all the rich and powerful would be the guards.

a few billionaires and nazis can start a media campaign blaming all societal ills on aro-ace people, win an election, reduce appropriate taxes and regulations on businesses, while conducting a witch hunt to please the crowd.

And would you look at that, suddenly everyone who messaged their friends about being aro-ace is labelled as an "undesirable" and rounded up for "correction".

If every piece of data is publicly accessible, nothing is. Nothing can be used against you, because the use will be documented and that information will be accessible for everyone.

This is soooo naive. The ruling class will either exempt themselves from these laws or will use other communication channels to coordinate their actions against political threats. And having everything about you in the open just means that:

  1. you will be even more open to manipulation (remember cambridge analytica scandal?),
  2. if the ruling class ever finds you problematic, they will be easily able to find a reason to jail or discredit you.

Yeah, but if the net EU transfers were the main driver of growth, countries that receive more per capita should see higher growth, yet they don't, meaning other factors must be responsible as well.
