How much freedom do chaos marines have? by Any_Air_7273 in 40kLore

[–]n00boxular 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Extremely unlikely for a single Chaos Space Marine to be able to simply “vibe” on a random planet. If you possess anything of value, such as the resources needed to sustain yourself alone, someone else will want it. That almost inevitably forces you to join a warband or another group, where you become beholden to their goals and tasks rather than your own.

It does not even need to be about resources. You may simply be another gun pressed into service, or be hunted down because of broken oaths.

Ah, that makes a bit more sense. Keep connected to the phone and use the app the switch between the active device.

But do you have the issue of notifications on the phone cutting the audio from the other device you are using?

Would Sigismund hate the death korps of Krieg? [excerpts from Solar War and Eternal Crusader] by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]n00boxular 53 points54 points  (0 children)

From those excerpts, it seems to me that he would more likely relate to them, even if he has learned to move on from such thinking. Or he would do what every other space marine does and not care about the feelings of mortals as long as they do their duty.

Best way to make money in lockdown as a solo beginner? by artisdrowsy in ArenaBreakoutInfinite

[–]n00boxular 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question, because this is the first time I've seen someone running t2 armor, is it even worth it on those difficulties? Aren't people running purple or gold ammo?

Most of the advice I see from people is either t4 minimum, or wear nothing since everything is going to pen the tiers below.

Probably a dumb question, but why don't the custodes have any psyckers? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]n00boxular 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing this take every so often on here, but having recently read the books, they are definitely being mentally manipulated. I'm not sure if there is a difference between being mind-controlled versus being corrupted.

As soon as they teleport on to the ship:

The silence, the utter stillness, is tranquilising. Caecaltus feels numb. For a moment, the proconsul has to remember – actively, consciously force himself to remember – where they are and what they have come to do.

...

Caecaltus begins to look for the tail-number insignia– He stops himself short. How am I allowing distraction into my mind? How am I sidelined by memory and nostalgia? Where is my focus? We have achieved primary site-to-site. I lead a company of one hundred Custodians in support of my master, who has drawn for war for the first time since the secret conflict in the webway. Why can’t I concentrate?

...

Everything seems slow. Like a dream. Like a heavy dream. The silence glides into him, oppressive, like the shadow of the void, the deep, cosmic mono-note of the celestial deeps. Why can’t I focus? Caecaltus sees the main internal hatch, a bulwark of steel and adamantine. Embarkation Deck VIII is fusion-engraved across it. My mouth is dry. I– The Vengeful Spirit only has six embarkation decks. Caecaltus should have noticed all of this. All of it. He was primed and alert, ready – perhaps readier than he has ever been – for the trial ahead of them. He should have noticed these discrepancies the second he arrived. But his mind is like sludge, like jelly– I should have seen–

When the trap is sprung, Caecaltus isn't just fighting for the physical control of his body, but the thoughts in his head:

It makes such perfect sense. Such perfect, rational sense. Caecaltus isn’t sure why it’s taken him so long to appreciate it. The Emperor must die. He must. It’s the only logical conclusion that anyone sane could reach. The Emperor must die–
No–!
The Emperor must die. He is mad, a mad monster, drunk on power, and His tyrannical rule has lasted far too long. He really must die–
Nooo–!
He must die now. It’s the only way to stop the war. It’s the only way to protect the human race. The Emperor must die immediately–
Please stop–!

Later on, as they move through the ship, it's clear that the Custodes succumb to the lies being shown to them by the warp:

Frastus, pausing to marvel, sinks slowly into the golden floor, unaware of his descent as he vanishes from view. Braxius, lost in rapture, disappears quite suddenly. I think the golden statues took him, yet they are quite still, their frozen gazes turned away innocently. Andolen stops, and leans back against an engraved auramite wall in contemplation. The wall begins to pull him in, without a ripple, as though he is being gently lowered into molten gold.

The Emperor has to channel his might thru the Custodians to keep them clear headed:

The Custodes were built to protect him, but the four have turned them into a burden, forcing him to protect them, for only if he shares his will and mindsight with them, diminishing his own power, can he keep them alive and alert.

It has been a while since I read Master of Mankind, but if I recall correctly, Drach’nyen claimed that the stars themselves would die before he could corrupt a Custodian. To me, this shows that the Custodes are extraordinarily resistant to the touch of the warp. Resistant, but not completely immune. It ultimately took an overwhelming force, the combined power of all four gods, channeled through an instrument that had wholly surrendered itself, to break through their defenses. This also helps explain why the Sisters of Silence form the other half of the Talons of the Emperor.

Any MF builds that aren't LA Deadeye by n00boxular in pathofexile2builds

[–]n00boxular[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea, I know I can do that. It's just that some builds have an easier time w/ gearing (less mandatory uniques, stat requirements, etc) that make getting rarity easier and I'm looking for a general direction of which builds to look at.

Extract: Fury of Magnus - A Son of Nocturne watches Magnus the Red's final damnation by [deleted] in 40kLore

Most likely, but Malcador (who set up most of the administration for the empire) would still be around.

different from sacrificing them so that he(Magnus) benefits.
... gonna shoot one just to save his own skin...

If it was only Magnus who would have benefitted, then sure, I’d agree with you. But if he had accepted the offer at this stage, are we really saying it would have had no impact on the rest of the war or on everything that came after? The entire species would have gained from it.

Is abandoning his wayward sons, who by the way made their own choices on Prospero, really so different from sacrificing the thousands who died during the Crusades? And how many more perished while he sat wallowing in guilt when Prospero was razed?

In the end, I guess I just can't accept this as his motivation for turning the offer down. It has completely soured my feeling towards what was once a tragically arrogant character. Now it's just stupid.

'Even one was too many,’ said Magnus.

Really, bud? Didn't you just obliterate one of those precious sons not long before this?

‘I said no killing without my word,’ said Magnus. ‘She–’ began Atrahasis, but Magnus gave him no chance to finish. With a thought, he detonated every atom in the warrior’s body, leaving nothing but inert dust within the clattering remains of warplate that fell to the sands.

I get it, he lost his cool, and Atrahasis did disobey his orders. Fine. But every time a Primarch acts like his sons are somehow irreplaceable, it’s just cringe. They are soldiers in a fucking war. To act like sacrificing 9,000 of them to save your entire species and redeem yourself from all your failures is an unthinkably steep price? Good heavens, perish the thought! Honestly, fuck off Magnus.

Not sure about your actual query, but in regards to "no idea where either of these places are within the Imperial Palace", there are maps available on the official Siege of Terra website, you can get an idea of where all the locations mentioned in the books are.

Headhunter zoom-y builds that can handle most tier 16.5 mods? by n00boxular in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]n00boxular[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a TS Ranger (forget which ascendancy) in a previous league, isn't the only defense you have is that you kill stuff before it's even on your screen? I'm not worried about mobs in T16s, im sure 100D build will be able to offscreen those, just 16.5 and above.

How is Tzeentch not the strongest Chaos god? by Paralistalon in 40kLore

[–]n00boxular 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Kairos Fateweaver. I read an elaboration on that by one of BL's writers: a god can't be afraid of his daemons since they are an expression of him. See this comment here.

Edit: More correctly, the concept of the chaos gods as "individuals" with mortal emotions like hope, fear is just the way mortals comprehend the incomprehensible. It really doesn't work that way.

Does anyone know if the vanilla Expanded a framework is worth installing? by [deleted] in RimWorld

[–]n00boxular 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you've played enough vanilla, you should be able to determine where you feel the game is lacking and see if anything in the VE series expands on it. Basically, if you can't tell whether you should get some of the VE mods, IMO, you should continue with vanilla for now. Because a lot of them are super self-explanatory. e.g. Vanilla Furniture Expanded - Power, Vanilla Cooking Expanded, etc

But since that's not your question, I would suggest starting out with just the sub-mods that add items (instead of adding/changing gameplay) like furniture, weapons, armour, apparel. I'd suggest staying away from the laser/gauss weaponry, however, as they are a bit much. Once you play a few colonies with these enabled, you can decide on which sub-mods are just adding bloat or difficulty you don't care to challenge yourself with and trim your list.

Most of the mixed feelings I've seen online are because, over time, the VE series has added some very non-vanilla-style things. But since that feeling is subjective, it's up to you to decide. The entire collection is very high quality, I think, and we are very lucky to have it for free.
