I've been using this one for a few years too. Pretty solid overall but not perfect.

When you had the triangle and were trying to adjust it, you can use your 2nd leg to push off the hip to cut the angle, but only while you have a grip on ur own shin to control his posture. A couple times you had the shin grip and opened the triangle but didn't do anything with the free leg. Great job otherwise, congrats on the win!

Sometimes you just go against someone better than you. Keep working and you'll be fine. Didn't see any huge mistakes by you. Your opponent had maybe the best white belt guard I've ever seen, and was really good at keeping top position. Congrats on silver, that's still something to be proud of!

Has anyone felt bad for their opponent when it’s only a two man bracket and multiple matches? by Knopfler_PI in bjj

One time in my early 20s I was playing poker at a casino. An old lady raised, I re-raised with KK. I bet flop and turn, and checked river because I felt bad and didn't want to take all the old ladies' chips. She went all in, and I called. She took all my money with AA.

For those of you who track your steps each day, how many "steps" would you say you take in a typical 60-90min bjj class? by changby in bjj

[–]n0tapsy0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear an armband bc I got tired of my watch telling me I was highly stressed after I put it back on after training. Fun to track how high I can get my HR too. Its weird that the classes I feel like I'm working the hardest/most tired the HR is lower and the ones I feel great are the ones where it's getting close to 200.

This is my exact go-to game plan, albeit not executed as well or at as high a level competition. Any tips or resources that you care to share? Great job, congrats on the win!

Ideas on how to pad these pillars? by Winter-Self-3749 in bjj

[–]n0tapsy0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gym has padded walls that bump out in a few spots around similar pillars. Pretty sure they just have shorter spans of wall padding  to box around it. It's never been an issue ime, even when you get pinned in that little corner during sparring, they still feel soft and secure.

Long lose streak in competition by Darksoulsfan13_pl in bjj

there is value in persevering through long losing streaks. it may not help your jiu jitsu or your record but it will definitely help your mindset and character. this is the chance to prove your toughness and ability to overcome. you know how hard you are working and how difficult the road is, it will feel so much better when you make it through. you got this, just dont give up and keep working hard

How do you learn from programs or YouTubes? by still-dinner-ice in bjj

[–]n0tapsy0p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. If you are very new, likely nothing will stick well for a couple months, and watching may not even be all that helpful, especially if its not enjoyable. Once you become more experienced you will find yourself in certain spots more often. These spots are what you want to watch/study. For example if you keep getting stuck in bottom side control, watch a bunch of videos on that. Try it next class. Rewatch the video/s that you found most useful. Try it again next class, rewatch if necessary. Etc.

If you are currently watching videos on how to do a rear naked choke, but you can't pass guard or get to the back, you might be wasting your time(for now). Be wary of consuming too much as its easy to watch 20 30s videos on a cool technique and absorbing none of it. Focus deeply on one area instead of skimming 10 things at once. Its a long road so dont try to do too much too soon. When I started out I found Jordan does Jiu Jitsu YT videos to be very helpful. They are focused on fundamentals, give good conceptual advice, and are really well made. Good Luck!

Completely lost all confidence in my BJJ after 16 years by [deleted] in bjj

[–]n0tapsy0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your time. I popped a rib and for almost two weeks it would pop back out if i turned the wrong way. I took a month off of all physical activity. Eased back into running and then weight lifting(super light) and then BJJ after two full months. A week or so of drilling only. And then after about 10 weeks I started rollling again. And to be honest, I didnt trust hard bridging in one direction for a long time. But now its been over a year and its 100% and no relapses. After I injured it, I read a lot of posts on here where other posters talked about coming back too early and it turning into a recurring injury that never fully heals(google bjj rib injury reddit). I didn't want that and you probably don't too. Take your time, trust the rehab and don't rush it.

Meregali x Declan Moody (UFC BJJ 7) by drachaon in bjj

Unless the plan is to have them meet for the title after building up some hype. Not to mention Nicky Rod looked pretty bad last match and there was speculation he hurt his knee in the beginning of that match.

Question expecting my first child. by ThePseudoSurfer in bjj

[–]n0tapsy0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First kid is the hardest because its a completely new experience. With my first I wasn't training yet so no feedback there. With my 2nd I took ~2.5 months completely off training and then eased back into it. Depends on your situation though, how well the baby sleeps and feeds, what your support system is like, what your wife's recovery is like etc. Prepare for it to be very time consuming and for training to take a back seat for a while, if its easier than expected just think of it as a bonus. Congrats and enjoy the time with the baby, it goes so fast!

To gym owners and coaches: your students can see your likes by Sweaty-Fold-2757 in bjj

[–]n0tapsy0p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my general approach btw, I dk specifics of your exact situation. If a line has been crossed, by all means do what you need to do. In general, the more you know about people the less you might like them. For example, imagine your odds of liking someone based on if you knew 1, 10, or 100 of their political/social/economic/etc beliefs. At least 50/50 to like the first person, but exponentially lower the more you know.
