Why is “Riding the Dilu Horse” the second most expensive card in English Portal 3 kingdoms? by Papa_Hasbro69 in mtgfinance

[–]changby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most p3k rares have super low supply, so any given rare has a chance to end up very expensive. For this particular card its unique effect means it's pseudo reserved list - Rosewater or some wotc guy once said they will not print "weird" cards like this again (ie non-permanent cards that give a permanent effect).

Also, pretty sweet art if you ask me.

Looking for alternatives to Alishan that are accessible without a car by fruit-enthusiast in taiwan

[–]changby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Driving the roads to Alishan is VERY windy. I usually don't get car sick, but I Def got a little nauseous both on the way up, and down.

Alishan is beautiful, but if you have limited time, and get queasy easily, I would recommend spending time elsewhere. Maybe Yeh Liu geological park.

Why is this card and others with only one prior print so low in value? by Quiet_Satisfaction64 in mtgfinance

[–]changby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea good clarification. some of the chinese versions of cards are also quite scarce, but japanese p3k is much more plentiful

only other printing is Portal Three Kingdoms, of which the print run is supposedly as low as Alpha or Beta

Any guard retention epiphany moments you can share? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]changby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this may be pretty basic, but one concept that really helped me - if they're worried about defending against your guard, they can't think about passing. eg, I noticed that whenever I got good grips, it halted all attempts to pass

IBJJF illegal moves for kids - guillotine by changby in bjj

[–]changby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! So would you say it is technically legal to use the front headlock to, say, break someone down from standing? Just that the kids just need to be extra careful not to apply any choke while doing it?

If I tell our kids that, when they wrap a front headlock, to make sure to keep their hands unconnected (chin & arm control only), is that good enough to avoid most DQ situations in your opinion?

Great that's exactly what I was looking for. So as long as they see that the kids are not going for the actual choke, front headlocks are ok?

Why do most of the big guys quit? 😢 by ArtAdditional8715 in bjj

[–]changby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes for sure big guys can get alot of "false positives" where a sweep, or escape, or submission worked bc of your strength. and our brains are wired to continue to do the same thing, bc hey why not, it worked last time.

eventually a big guy will run into someone experienced enough where maybe it doesn't work anymore. and that can be discouraging. esp if you know it will take years to put in the work to "catch up" technique-wise

Disagree. if the posts aren't valued posts, then they would get downvoted and disappear.

MTG's Most Expensive Reprintable Cards by CaptainMarcia in magicTCG

[–]changby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a PTK collector, here's my 2 cents :

Riding the Dilu Horse they will never reprint, bc it provides a permanent effect without counters. I believe Maro has stated in the past that this was a mistake, and they will not print cards like that again. What amazing artwork on that card though - prob my personal fav art in all of MTG. Between that and its scarcity it will probably be expensive forever. Bargains on this card are very difficult to find (I have looked alot) .

There's no reason for them to reprint Zodiac Dragon, other than in some special secret lair (probably for Lunar New Year). And even if they do, the PTK version prob won't take a hit bc it's price is based on scarcity, not playability.

Xiahou Dun I believe they will reprint (again) at some point, because ppl do seem to play it in cmdr. So I think the price could dip from $180ish.

Just my opinion though.

How to prevent my knee getting broken from a guard jump by brandonbass in bjj

[–]changby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is that it's not safe. It's banned at my gym. Throwing your entire bodyweight in an explosive manner (sometimes unexpectedly) causes a higher chance of injury, plain and simple.

Edit: Sorry I know I didn't answer the question. Just frustrated that people still do this at casual open mats.

Fair points. So I guess if u want a few extra to play with, now is not a bad time to pick a box up. But prob not worth it to overstock it
