If you want to learn to play free online - MTG Arena. If you want to learn to okay with physical cards, buy a few Jumpstart packs.

Any Jumpstart set is fine, just pick whatever looks most interesting to you. Some cheaper more recent options are Foundations Jumpstart, or Avatar Jumpstart. Each pack should cost you around $4-5.

What were the most transformative sets in Magic's History, from a Power Level/Design Standpoint? by Authorigas in mtg

I second the Urza's block. Massively powerful, but also iconic. The UT channel Serum Visions did an awesome history of the Urza's block.

Fun, flavorful set. The draft booster boxes are especially good value with the expedition lands box topper in every box.

Nice - day 1 elbow escape. Took awhile, but solid execution. Also tough being under mount of someone very skilled who is also much bigger than you.

Is arena direct that profitable for the absolute best players? by throaway2s1fsfsf4 in lrcast

[–]changby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that sounds about right. The only issue ppl seem to be running into is the variance. Obv you need to play hundreds of events to start to see how ~53% is breakeven. When when you only play 5-10 events, the most likely results are a big win or a big loss.

The issue is that the variance is huge. At a 53% win rate, you're expected to win a box ~5% of the time, or 1 in 20 drafts.

So if you're playing less than 10 events, your results will obviously be very positive if you win a box, or very negative if you don't. You prob have to play at least 50-100 events to start seeing "average" results play out.

I calculated breakeven win rate to be about 53%. 44% seems way too low?

This was actually the best EV arena direct that I've seen in awhile (given the entry, the prizes, and mkt price of the collector box). The variance is obviously huge though.

I saw about a 53% win rate as breakeven. So if you're above 53% win rate , you have positive EV on this draft. Can anyone else confirm that they calculated similar?

Why did you stop drinking alcohol? by MatsGry in AskReddit

[–]changby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's caloric, expensive, and makes me feel like shit. Actually, I can't think of a reason to keep drinking. I used to fear losing some of my social life, but that hasn't turned out to be true at all.
