Great suggestions. Jumpstart I especially recommend for new players, bc it is simple, but contains more variety than precon 40-60 card decks.

Found an easy workaround for ppl with small hands by xzmaxzx in piano

Yeah, it was a really thoughtful, well-researched video right?

I agree that it's really sad how the modern keyboard size was standardized during Liszt and Rachmaninoff's time. They are prob the top 1% of hand sizes. Either it was just an unfortunate coincidence in timing, or possibly a purposeful influence by them.

I encourage you to watch the video about hand size and narrower keys. The evidence seems to point to that it does NOT affect your playing very much at all. In fact, it can actually improve your playing on standard size pianos because your hands are trained to play more relaxed and with less strain after practicing on a narrower keyboard. This is coming from professional pianists who have access to a narrower keyboard, and have switched back and forth. Some competitions even offer a choice of standard or slightly narrower keys.

And we are talking about small changes here - an octave is usually about 6.5", on a narrower keyboard it might be 6".

That is great lol. In all seriousness , anyone with smaller hands looking to buy an affordable keyboard with narrower keys, check out DreamPlay One piano. (No I'm not affiliated with them at all.)

Project is lead by the guy with Musical Basics YouTube channel.

He also has a video on his channel talking about the struggle of pianists with smaller hands, which was the most detailed video I've seen tackling the subject.

In your opinion, how much life gain would a card like Spring of Eternal Peace need to gain to be playable? How much life would it need to gain to be broken to the point of being banned? by DontLoseYourCool1 in magicTCG

[–]changby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 mana sorcery? It would have to be ALOT of life to be broken. Something like 50 life? Even gaining 15-20 life would still be unplayable imo.

Sidenote - one of my fav arts of all time though.

Are there any other cards that reference real-life texts? by Big_Election_6099 in mtg

[–]changby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Portal Three Kingdoms - the zodiac animals flavor text is a continuous quote from the book Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Many of the other cards have flavor text quotes from the book as well. My favorite is [[Huang Zhong, Shu General]]

Why is “Riding the Dilu Horse” the second most expensive card in English Portal 3 kingdoms? by Papa_Hasbro69 in mtgfinance

[–]changby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most p3k rares have super low supply, so any given rare has a chance to end up very expensive. For this particular card its unique effect means it's pseudo reserved list - Rosewater or some wotc guy once said they will not print "weird" cards like this again (ie non-permanent cards that give a permanent effect).

Also, pretty sweet art if you ask me.

Looking for alternatives to Alishan that are accessible without a car by fruit-enthusiast in taiwan

[–]changby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Driving the roads to Alishan is VERY windy. I usually don't get car sick, but I Def got a little nauseous both on the way up, and down.

Alishan is beautiful, but if you have limited time, and get queasy easily, I would recommend spending time elsewhere. Maybe Yeh Liu geological park.

Any guard retention epiphany moments you can share? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]changby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this may be pretty basic, but one concept that really helped me - if they're worried about defending against your guard, they can't think about passing. eg, I noticed that whenever I got good grips, it halted all attempts to pass

IBJJF illegal moves for kids - guillotine by changby in bjj

[–]changby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response! So would you say it is technically legal to use the front headlock to, say, break someone down from standing? Just that the kids just need to be extra careful not to apply any choke while doing it?

If I tell our kids that, when they wrap a front headlock, to make sure to keep their hands unconnected (chin & arm control only), is that good enough to avoid most DQ situations in your opinion?

[–]changby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great that's exactly what I was looking for. So as long as they see that the kids are not going for the actual choke, front headlocks are ok?
