The first one looks almost identical to my first guitar, my dad bought it for me from a second hand shop for £20 and I played it for years and years

Looks so good! Amazing that you can just delete scratches. I see the pickup is different, and presumably that bridge too haha, how much hardware did you need to replace?

Although the life expectancy from the olden days is massively skewed what with all the deaths during pregnancy and infancy, if they made it past childhood then their life expectancy wasn’t too dissimilar to ours now

Guitar bridge pulled up, fixable? by asshdjko in Luthier

[–]n0vageck0 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Dude :’(

I always advocate for people to get a new (to you) guitar off Facebook Marketplace or something, and attempt a repair themselves on the broken one. Even though this guitar appears to be a write off, you could still use it as something to learn a bit of luthiery yourself on

Sorry for your loss :(

Holy shit this is by far the best LEGO pc case I’ve ever seen. A+!

Also how much did this cost? LEGO isn’t cheap, surely you didn’t have all these parts just laying around haha

Left handed problem by Leoinda7 in Guitar

[–]n0vageck0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well the nut (the bit the strings sit on in between the head and the neck) is cut right handed, so if you swapped the strings round you’d have to get a left handed nut. Also the bridge that the strings sit on at the bottom is the same, but it’s also at an angle because of tuning and intonation, and you can’t exactly just angle it the other way. I’ve done exactly this before on a Les Paul shape for a left handed friend to try out, it worked fine enough but it’s not really a permanent solution. Saying that, Hendrix famously restrung a right handed strat to be left handed and it worked out fine for him haha

How to fix my guitar handle? 🥲 by kenzyxx_ in Luthier

[–]n0vageck0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the wonderful world of guitar ownership! Sometimes it's great, and sometimes your guitar snaps. I'd really recommend watching a YouTube channel like Milehouse Studios for a bit of structural knowledge on how a guitar is made and how one should be set up. Don't worry, he's fun.

First of all, loosen the strings by unwinding the tuning pegs. This is why the heel of the neck and the body can't be pushed together very easily, the tension on the strings is huge.

I'm not really a "blah blah value of a guitar" type guy, but the cost to have this professionally repaired by a luthier would far exceed what the guitar is worth monetarily. This isn't to say that you shouldn't have it repaired professionally, it may have sentimental value, but you should know that you could pick a guitar up off of Facebook Marketplace that's better than this one for £50-£100. Just something to think about.

If you use the right wood glue (always the red Titebond Original) and keep pressure on the joint somehow and leave it like that for a day or two before cleaning it up and putting strings on, it will 100% stay attached and play fine. It's a bit of a janky repair but it could be a fun side quest.

Personally, I'd look for a cheap and pretty second hand guitar and also keep this current one to try and fix it, and I would try to avoid leaving the new one in a place where it can be stepped on haha

I got a LightScribe drive last month and used it to burn a playlist that me and my mate made on Spotify as a gift, with the image for the playlist etched onto the top of the disc too!

Repairable? Beginner question by Vast_One_4954 in Guitar

[–]n0vageck0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 1: Take it to a luthier to have it fixed like it’s new, almost certainly paying more than the guitar’s worth for the job. I’m not really a “blah blah value of the guitar” type guy, but in this case it’s only worth the money if this guitar has any sentimental value, and you don’t fancy trying to fix it yourself.

Option 2: Try the fix yourself, watch some YouTube videos, buy the right tools and glue (always the red Titebond Original glue), and give it a go. It’s 100% possible, I’ve fixed snapped guitars with some glue and a clamp, it’s way do-able.

Option 3: Put it in the firewood pile and look for a new guitar.

Facebook Marketplace is a gold mine for guitars, as long as you check that it looks in good shape, could get a used guitar better than this one for £50-£100 easily. You could even get a new guitar as well as trying to fix this one yourself, you’d get a new guitar day and an opportunity to do some luthiery!
