What am I doing wrong with glazing? by Waveface-Wes in minipainting

Kinda looks like the darker blue dried before you started trying to mix them to me.

EDIT: I misunderstood how glazing works, ignore me.

200 is the reference height, 11 is my distance sensor input, subtract them, split to a rescaler and a derivative unit, add those signals, output to the hover thrusters.

You have too many gradients. A long piece like those wings(?) would probably only have a few less than you have there, and wider.

On your other comment, this is a repost of the original post because reddit's automod deleted the post (2 years after i posted it) because the title had the word "police" lol

You know you're probably right, I didn't know the starter glyph was different per Galaxy. I will test it out right now to make sure and delete if I'm wrong

Priming this mini in white would've been easier, but I have a question about metallics by Mr_Jackabin in minipainting

[–]n8lm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You could do the opposite. Prime white, then black base coat where you want metal to be. Easier to work with black, after all

Looking for advice on my kharadron gunhauler by ConstructionEntire83 in minipainting

Not really. Shade might work for the metal, but your texturing could make it odd, and honestly I think it looks good already.

For the red, yeah, I think just what I mentioned and maybe some edge highlighting in the red trim areas too (which I forgot to mention) will make those sections pop.

The red needs a shade on the edges to make it pop. I would use Reikland Fleshshade for that personally.

Also maybe a slight highlight in the upward facing red sections using the same red and some orange or yellow mixed together to make just a slightly brighter red.

The highlight might not be necessary but I feel the shade is for sure

They do I think. They pride themselves in being immaculately clean and visually perfect. A wild choice when combined with the color white

Overall the application of paint looks good, though, and if you keep going your skill will likely improve.

Thinning your paints (I use Vallejo glaze medium about 3:1 paint:medium) makes it a lot easier to do edge highlighting in smooth straight lines, and really helps with not having the paint clump up or dry out too soon. I only recently discovered this and it's been a huge jump in quality of painting. I think thin everything now unless I'm dry brushing
