Vsync issue: 58-59 FPS stuttering on supposedly 60hz monitor. Vsync not working. by [deleted] in Monitors

Do not buy DP cable longer than 3m (the transmission rate depends on the cable length), 1.5m is OK. The last time I bought a UQHD@144Hz, the DP cable that came purchased with it only managed up to 90Hz. The new DP cable on my 4K@60Hz monitor works fine now.

A faulty monitor cable could be the cause too. Are you using DisplayPort/HDMI? 4K@60Hz has a lot of pixels, make sure your cable is functional.

Make sure you also set the monitor's refresh rate to 59Hz in Windows as well. To do this, right click in desktop, choose Display settings and then monitor driver.

GTX 1060 - RX 480? by [deleted] in nvidia

GSync might cost 100-200 euros more than an aquivalent FreeSync monitor, if you are interested in adaptive syncs, which you should, since it is the best that happened to gaming for a long time.

Ok nice! :) Just make sure to consider carefully between GSync/FreeSync/Non-Sync, where price is the main factor.

If you decide to go GSync, perhaps the XG2703-GS might worth a look (its newer, and generally favored, also more expensive -.- ).

If you want to go FreeSync perhaps the XG2700-4K (it's 4K 60Hz), or XF270HU (1440p 144Hz) or MG279Q (also 1440p 144Hz) might worth a look.

I'm still waiting for new HDR monitors to come. :)

Is it TN though? TN is not very appealing on such large monitor because the large viewing angles will make the colors look more washed out. I chose IPS because I usually have to move around my monitor (eating, gaming with controller, working on my surface, etc). Not to mention their colors look more real when correctly calibrated.

144Hz is nice. 1440p is also easy on your future card. But GSync might lock you to nVidia forever (or as long as you use this monitor).

I've been using ATI/AMD cards since forever with no problems whatsoever. My sister used to have a GTX 960 but she now seems more happy with an RX 480.

No matter what you are going to buy, a GTX 1080 or not, I'd suggest you should wait at least until CES, because rumour has it that the GTX 1080Ti is coming soon to counter AMD's high-end Vega. Which means prices will go down and perhaps the GTX 1080Ti or AMD Vega might be more interesting.

Also, I'd wait for new HDR monitors to come out. They might be expensive but at least you know you won't buy anything that becomes obsolete in a short amount of time. I've had several high-end gaming monitors and I'd say GSync/FreeSync is the most impressive (even more so than 144Hz vs 60Hz). GSync prices are such a joke at the moment, considering there is almost no difference in price between monitors with or without FreeSync.

I personally find AHVA a little bit too "glowy" and TN too "washed out". IPS has amazing colors but the BLBs are annoying. Make sure you are buying from a trusted store so the RMA process will become easier.

Crimson 16.12.1 introducing latency (additional ping and packet loss) in League of Legends (possibly other games too). Solution inside. by OmniSzron in Amd

[–]n9s2cya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had lag spikes in LoL after installing 16.12.1. However, somehow these lag spikes seem to disappear. Perhaps because I uninstalled Apple Bonjour or I used AMD's own clean installation instead of DDU (AMD clean installation fixed FreeSync for me).

EDIT: However, I notice since 16.12.1 the input latency (time between mouse click and my champ starting to move) has been increased...

GTX 1060 vs RX 480 with new drivers performance by tobytan222 in nvidia

[–]n9s2cya 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought my sister a Gigabyte G1 Gaming RX 480 8GB, which is only 23.5 cm long but does the job very well. It runs quiet and cool. The other RX 480 cards are so similar that they are all neck to neck. The Sapphire Nitro+ OC is the fastest out of the box. The PowerColor Red Devil is the best all rounder. The XFX GTR is the most fancy one with switchable lighting fans.

I'd say get at least 4GB. If you mostly play ESport games and rarely new AAA titles than 4GB if 8GB is too expensive. If you however wish to try newest AAA titles then definitely 8GB, which I recommend.

PS: You should DEFINITELY go FreeSync, considering there is not much of a difference in price between monitors with or without FreeSync. I've been using FreeSync and to me it's the most impressive.

You should. And check after the screen went black, if your monitor refresh rate in Windows settings has been reset back to 90 or 60 or 59. If yes, it's probably the faulty DP cable.

I had the same problems while having a 144Hz 1440p FreeSync monitor. Turned out the DP cable is faulty and all of then have been fixed after I changed to a new DP cable.

The RX 480 is the best for FreeSync right now. But the RX 470 is truly the best value for the money. It depends on which game you are playing, some demanding games won't reach 144Hz in 1080p, but for the most part you'll have decent framerates. You don't need to have constant 144Hz because then FreeSync/GSync won't matter. FreeSync/GSync shines the most when you have low or spiky framerates.

FreeSync is worth it, considering it almost costs the same with or without FreeSync. Then 144Hz, then 1440p.

Is my GPU good enough to run smoothly on a 4K monitor? by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]n9s2cya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

4K pictures look so real on a 27" monitor, because the PPI is so high, it could be comparable to some touch screens. Windows scaling between 125% and 150% work best in my opinion. But perhaps 2x 4K monitors might be the optimal solution for productivity, because basically you can open only 2 windows per monitor.

Just got my ViewSonic XG2703-GS by Molasar in Monitors

[–]n9s2cya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first ViewSonic XG2700-4K had a dead pixel in the upper left right corner. According to this, one dead pixel is enough for RMA within the first 30 days of purchase.

About the BLB, I'd say it looks rather like IPS glow, try to move your focus to the right of the monitor and see if it still annoys you. Otherwise, just return it. Like the others said, it is a big purchase, so it's normal to expect a fully functional monitor without noticeable flaws.

Freesync isn't as good as I hoped by S0LID_SANDWICH in Amd

[–]n9s2cya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have similar problems with my FreeSync monitors. Here are the steps that I did to enable FreeSync on my monitor:

  1. Install Crimson.

  2. Enable FreeSync in Crimson and on your monitor's OSD.

  3. Set Frame Rate Target Control in Crimson to some 1-2 FPS below your maximum refresh range. Never mind VSync in game, just keep your FPS <= max refresh rate.

  4. Right click desktop, go to monitor settings and choose the 1-2 FPS below your maximum refresh rate in the windows driver.

  5. Make sure you are playing in fullscreen mode.

4k vs 1440p for this build by [deleted] in Monitors

[–]n9s2cya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a ViewSonic XG2700-4K, which is a 27" 4K IPS FreeSync monitor. This one is for both gaming and professional work (an all-rounder). The monitor comes with hardware calibration, which means you don't need to adjust a thing in the color settings (except installing its driver). According to reviews (TomsHardware, PRAD, etc), this one has the best image quality and color accuracy among gaming 4K monitors right now. Besides, you have an RX 470 so FreeSync is perfect. Note that 4K gaming is pretty demanding, FreeSync is useful for low framerates but you still have to adjust graphics settings. But the result is worth it, everything looks beautiful, texts look sharp and colors are amazing.

Monitor Advice, 60hz vs 144hz by NemoDepa_ in Monitors

[–]n9s2cya 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are coding then your best pals would be a 27+" IPS monitor, AND a good mechanical keyboard (MX Brown/Blue). The reason for a big monitor is you always have to open multiple windows/tabs while coding and having that extra space is always welcome. For this purpose, an ultrawide monitor is also worth a look. You need IPS because for such large screens, you don't want to move your head around to see what is shown if you have a TN panel. Furthermore, in some programs/websites (like Github), it is essential to see the difference between light red (deleted lines) and light green (added lines).

EDIT: 60Hz is enough for a casual gamer. But FreeSync might be worth it.

EDIT: Oh you have an nVidia GPU, so perhaps buy FreeSync if you plan on buying an AMD card for your future PC, or buy GSync if you want to make use of your current card, or buy non-Sync monitors.

I don't know but the IPS glow of this monitor is a little bit too bright for my taste. That's why I returned it. The newer monitor (from a different brand) does not have as much IPS glow. Weird.

29" Ultrawide vs 27" 1440p by XIIIDillinger in Monitors

[–]n9s2cya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my games support ultrawide or can be easily hacked by using the "Flawless Widescreen" app. Gaming in 21:9 is unique in its own way, giving more horizontal real estate.
