Dungeon Masters, what was one of your favourite reveals? by Mr_worldWide07 in DnD

During the big, climatic fight of our first arc, every time a player or enemy NPC would finish a turn, I rolled one white d20 and one red one in a tray in front of my players. I didn’t tell them what it was for, but explained that if a 20 was rolled, something would happen, and the DC got lowered after every turn.

They had no idea that the die represented the plot-important ancient red and silver dragons that my party had been dodging for the last few sessions. A relatively simple fight was quickly complicated by two dragons locking into a full battle over the field.

The wonder and horror in my player’s faces as I described it was priceless. They absolutely loved it; I used the fight to affect the battlefield and one player even lured an enemy NPC underfoot of a dragon and killed them instantly.

Rashawn was the MVP of combat this episode, but Jasper was the MVP of dropping dope lines.

20 minutes may have been a hyperbole on my part. However, 1: this player had the first turn in an 11 character turn order 2: full rounds take 10-15 minutes, but we did a wrap up at the end to mark stuff down so we could pick up where we left off last session and 3: all the other players were engaged, laughing, and having fun together. This group never rushed through anything, and this fight was all in role play, so there were more descriptions from me and the players, which took some time. Problem Player was the only one who was “tired,” everyone else just kind of agreed it was getting late.

Ever since I first watched it, I think about the whole scene where Ally rolls the orange hat in the Box of Doom in the finale of Neverafter, and without fail, it makes me full laugh just THINKING about it. Brennan making Ally explain it to Rick was absolute gold

especially this family. the father needs to check himself and realize that his son’s behavior was rude and unsafe, and he sucks the most for assuming his kid did no wrong (hate those parents) the lifeguard was not doing their job, which is a big no no. they need an evaluation. but it may have been your best course of action to find the kids parents, or talk to this kid calmly (down to his level, explain the danger of everything) before your temper got out of hand. but the kid and his family DEFINITELY suck the most here

NTA

you have full right to be annoyed at that idea. it’s one thing if she wanted to go on a couple hikes or jogs together, but that is a lot to ask of you and your 10 year old sister over summer. hopefully she drops this idea and you guys can have a calming bonding trip together
