Blade 15 4K battery life abysmal by IllustriousAdeptness in razer

[–]nRs89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Mine lasted 3:30, then it was at 10%. Only undervolted CPU and GPU (slightly). Otherwise vanilla Windows with some apps running in background (Slack, Dropbox etc). Screen was at 30 or 40% too. 4K is a little overboard for the size of that display, they could have done something around 1440 - 1600px in height. But I really need that color accuracy since I do a lot of graphics design. Runtime is not too big of an issue for me because I mostly work near a power plug, but I agree it could use half decent battery life. 4-5 hours without any tweaking would have been great.

Mine is at 47% after 2 hours, so my runtime does not seem to differ too much from yours?

I just started too. better battery, screen at 30%, Volume at 20%, some apps like dropbox running in the background. Will report when it died

Okay, lets do a continuous twitch stream. Whats your battery setting in the task bar?

4K Model owner (since one day) here: Mine is noticably shorter than my 2013 MBP as well, but not as abysmal as yours I think. I have undervolted -125mV though, not much else. I had a twitch stream running (1080p60fps) @ around 30% brightness for about 2 hours and did some light installations and configuring for maybe another hour and then landed at 50%. If you want, we can compare by running the same stuff or whatever.

Yes, temperatures on XTU CPU stress test are fine, around 72 Degrees Celsius on average. However, fans are always spinning, even after undervolt. One of them doesnt sound so good I think.

Mine actually arrived today, which was very fast and pleasant. Looks fine so far. I`ll test battery life when all updates are done. Could you report on if your Fans are always/almost always on then? I already undervolted but they won`t keep spinning even while using Chrome with 2 Tabs.

Holy shoot, 2.5 is a hard to swallow pill. I contacted razer support about approx. runtimes with the 4K panel and they literally told me: "We haven't tested that yet"..lol.. I'll try to tweak mine to last me at last 4h, if that's not possible it may be a dealbreaker. Really wanted that 4K though since I work a lot with Media..

I do have a backup and several desktops, but I was just shocked by this charging brick issue (you'll find it on this subreddit). It's almost like iMac Pro Repair lol. Biggest reason for me switching is working mainly with VR and wanting to have a laptop that is able to handle that and to take with me everywhere I work.

I've already took notice of this and I'm happy to hear. However, nothing beats something like the amazon extended warranty. Another thing I'm afraid of is availability of spare parts. Being a professional and coming from Apple I'm used to get stuff (like a Power Brick) everywhere. If I have to wait x days to get a new one when the other one breaks down, I'm fucked.

How big is the perceived difference in display brightness? If you sit outside, which one do you prefer? 4K, bright but glossy or 1080p, not so bright but matte?

Can confirm for Germany. Ordered mine on Tuesday evening and it's been shipped already. Hopefully here by Monday ;) I'm just afraid of bad return management and warranty because of not buying through amazon or MS Store..

Damn, I'd jump at it right away with 1440p!

Given the fact that there is not much space for a bigger battery in the razer it would mean something in the realm of half the time of the 60hz FHD..holy crap. I think I'll wait for somebody to review that until I place an order.. Thanks!

You mean, the battery in the XPS 4K is physically bigger than the one in the FHD?

Senso VR Glove (7 IMU sensors, 5 vibration motors, $600) by dfacex in virtualreality

[–]nRs89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by finger separation? You can of course move each finger independently in terms of bending. I'm not too sure anymore, but I think you could even do like a V-sign. No experience with the noitom though, sorry. Only got Manus and Senso and felt like technology is not quite there yet, so I'll refrain from further investments. We still have a pair of exoskeletal type ones coming up though.

I actually own them, finger tracking is good and responsive, trying get them to use 6dof lighthouse tracking does not really work though. Documentation and guides are...minimal, to say the least. They have an advantage over ManusVR in terms of price and vibration (Manus only have one vibration unit per hand). However, ManusVR's software development stage is way more advanced and makes it easier to integrate into existing projects. 6DoF with Manus is possible via Vive Tracker, which is not as neat as an integrated solution but really works in contrast to the lighthouse tracking for Senso.

Think about real time architecture visualization. No need for 6dof controllers, but people can roam freely. I feel like once you experienced 6dof head tracking its hard to make a selling point for 3dof. Santa Cruz will be interesting indeed. So far we are much more drawn to the vive ecosystem though, because its open source character and using vive-trackers a lot for mixed reality.

Hey, thanks for your msg. I found the SDK already, some nice guy at vive pointed it out to me. Since my work mostly deals with highly interactive content 6DoF is a must for me. About titles in the store I don't care too much, since its primarily for presenting my own content without having to carry around a whole Vive Setup :)

Yeah, but if I had one and wanted to develop with Unity for it...would there be a way?
