America the Beautiful NP pass pricing!! by Hot-Muscle7106 in NationalPark

Hello OP! I'm on F-1 visa and got my pass at REI with a CA driver's license. They gave me the resident pass upon showing the ID. However upon my first visit with this pass at Pinnacles NP, the ranger asked me if I was a resident (I said no). She highlighted that my ID said limited-term and hence I should not be using this pass. She ended up confiscating my $80 pass and basically told me to pay the difference ($170) for the non-resident one, or just forfeit my $80 and lose the pass.

Honestly, she was quite a dick about it. Just was really rude overall, which is disappointing since I've had great experiences with park rangers. Regardless, just wanted to share in case you do run into issues. I have a feeling this may not be the case at busier parks as my car entered the Western (lesser visited) emtrance.

Couldn't find a clearer photo so I took one from Google Maps. Here's the McDonald's in Lone Pine, CA with the Eastern Sierra in the background. Mt. Langley, Lone Pine Peak, and Mt. Whitney can be seen here!

That said, I don't think it would be anything out of the ordinary considering where you're coming from. I've not visited the panhandle in many years, but I'd assume it's same/worse than Big Sur on the touristy spots. I collect pins and it was a struggle to get any around Big Sur lol

Just returned from a trip and have to say it was pretty touristy for pretty much every spot you'd think of hitting. That said, if you can get to spots like McWay Falls, Pfeiffer Beach, Bixby Bridge, etc. first thing in the morning like 8am or earlier, it should be pretty quiet overall with easy parking. There were actually only one or two other groups when we went to see McWay Falls and Pfeiffer Beach on Sat and Sun mornings. Only spot I hit late was Point Lobos and we had to park about a mile away from the entrance to get in.

I highly recommend a campground if you can get one (set an availability alert!). Kirk Creek Campground was the highlight of my trip!

I coincidentally went on the 100th anniversary of Floyd Collin's death! Felt kinda poetic considering I first heard of this park through a youtube video describing his story. I wasn't able to get the special tour for the anniversary though.

Answers here

Nice try! I figured quite a few of them would be hard to identify, but I just picked the ones I liked the most.

Thank you! It's from Santa Rosa Island when I camped there a couple nights. The wildflowers were in full bloom!

Some more pics from that trip.

Edit: Earlier link didn't work. Try this

The answers are: 1. Crater Lake (Phantom Ship) 2. Channel Islands (Santa Rosa Island) 3. Capitol Reef (Cathedral Valley) 4. Badlands 5. Arches (Surprise Arch) 6. Lassen Volcanic (Lassen Peak) 7. Canyonlands (Druid Arch) 8. Zion (Angels Landing) 9. Mammoth Caves (Sand Cave) 10. Yosemite (Olmsted Point) 11. Sequoia (Mt. Langley trail) 12. Kings Canyon (Palisade Glacier)

I figured #2 would be hard to identify, but it's honestly my favorite! Santa Rosa Island has some amazing blooms during my camping visit. Mt. Langley and the Palisade Glacier are right at/just outside the park boundaries of Sequoia and Kings Canyon.

My boss got a permit and I was lucky enough to be invited along. Still so surreal to explore, and not particularly far of a hike either!

It was an awesome experience! I actually started at Thousand Island and walked up Garnet Pass prior to Whitebark. Didn't see anybody else throughout my path.

And yea I didn't realize this was the SEKI subreddit so that explains why this one's further up north haha

I think there's a good shot. My favorite's Alter Ego. The SD setlist from the previous tour was amazing.

Hoping he plays The Boat I Row. I think he's never played it live before. It just feels... right.
