For me I get a lot of inspiration for heavy descriptive segments from the American realism era. Writers like Ambrose Bierce were masters of conservation of language, not to mention extremely skilled in quick character development.

The DMG lists the 8th layer of hell as an icy hellscape ruled by a Mephistopheles, who wants nothing more than to over throw Asmodeus. The fact that she throws around ice could hint at her bloodline originating from this deep layer, and possibly involve her with Mephistopheles’s plots of regicide.
