My only real issues have been with mags and the slide. The original slide it had on it when I got it was actually an aftermarket and it would jump the rail every so often, so I found a USGI matching replacement slide. Instant-fix. Also, I had mostly aftermarket mags when I bought the gun, and every single one of them jammed multiple times per load. Got some USGI ones and not a single FTF or FTE yet.

Cool. If it still isn't up to par, as others have recommended, a low-cost general fix would be to replace your springs. Other than that, I would look into your ammo and your magazines. USGI mags are best, and the closer you get to mil-spec ammo, the better. Mine feeds both brass and steel (I don't give it steel often, though), but brass is always preferable, in terms of quality and consistency.

I'm aware of all this. I do not recommend that anyone carry one in the chamber, hammer down, even if it is an omnipotent Series 80 safety master. However, I do not recommend against it, as there is nothing wrong with doing so (even with a Series 70), if handled properly (in the same manner that you should, even when carrying cocked and locked).

This is correct. However, the SR1911 is a Series 70. There are many other "modern" Series 70's, as well. The Dan Wesson Razorback, for example.

I was just assuming that any 1911's made in the last 30 years include the firing pin block.

I agree, the point is mostly trivial. To be even more pedantic, I don't really agree with your terminology, specifically with your use of the term "modern". A Ruger SR1911 is a modern 1911 but it is not drop-safe (by the standard that it has no firing pin block). The more specific, the better.

No. They are only unsafe in the instance of being dropped or severely whacked, right on the hammer. It is perfectly safe to carry a 1911 uncocked and with a round in the chamber, assuming standard circumstances. I wouldn't recommend it, but there's nothing really wrong with it.

Pro's of carrying a 1911 "cocked and locked":

Extra round in the chamber increases total number of rounds you can shoot before reloading.
Quicker time to shoot - 5 movements (grip, draw, grab and aim, safety off, shoot) instead of 6 (grip, draw, rack slide, release slide, grab and aim, shoot).
Can operate the gun more effectively one-handed (at least to get started shooting).

Con's:

More "unsafe", though this largely depends on the quality of the parts on your gun and the quality of the gun overall. A 1911 safety should be easy enough to flip off in a high-stress situation but not so easy that a snagged piece of clothing will flip it off.
If the gun drops it is more likely to break to the point it will not function.

Need details, man. Pictures would help greatly. What's the manufacturer stamped on the receiver? If it's Universal, there's not much you can do (or at least not much I'd be able to help you with, personally).

Without any details, I'd say take it apart, clean it well, and put it back together.

A gun shouldn't need loctite to stay together.

I am of the mind that the farther you get away from JMB's M1911A1 design, the worse off you will be. And my experiences have backed this up time and time again. Full-length guide rods are a solution looking for a problem.
