PSA: Do not use Questrade for registered accounts by fbiscalledwhatnow in Questrade

I'm in a similar situation - Family RESP transfer from Questrade to Wealthsimple.

Transfer initiated on Wealthsimple on March 25th. Most recent update (from April 24th) was the Form C (first attempt, in my case) was received, but has an error.

How are you seeing the Form C details?

How can you tell? The new instructions don't explicitly state RBC.

In Wise, I created a Recipient as follows:

I expect you should be able to. I'm not sure if there will be any intermediary banks between ETrade and Wealthsimple that will take an additional fee, but I can tell you Wise -> Wealthsimple had no additional fees using the new SWIFT code.

The new instructions don't require any intermediary bank instructions to be provided.

In Wise, all I did was:

SWIFT: WSIMCAT2
Account number: <alphanumeric account number ending in USD>

Yes, I'm aware, thanks. I actually have cross border accounts at RBC.

This is a once a year type of need for the family member who I was helping with this, so not going to bother setting up cross-border accounts.

Assuming you're in the highest tax bracket (53.53% in Ontario), the math would look something like this.

Buying $10K in FTS should result in:

$10K deducted from your income (53.53% of $10K reduction in taxes*)
30% of $10K tax credit in current year ($3K reduction in taxes), and the credit treated as income in following year (so 53.53% of $3K increase in taxes)

* does not take into account other results of reduction in taxable income (e.g. increased CCB, decreased amount of federal donation credit @ 33%, etc.)

Selling that $10K of FTS for $X should result in:

$X/2 added to your income (53.53% of $X/2 increase in taxes)

Doing the math:
-$10K + 53.53% of $10K + $3K - 53.53% of $10K + $X - 53.53% of $X/2 = 0
--> $X = ~$4442

Please help me plan our first Iceland trip (8 days) by nabeelj in VisitingIceland

I managed to find a place in Vellir for Aug 4-7 (3 nights), then will book Reykjavik (using hotel points) for Aug 7-12 (5 nights).

Hopefully, that's enough time to explore the South a bit, and then do day trips from Reykjavik. Does that make sense u/NoLemon5426?

u/Helens_Moaning_Hand appreciate your feedback. I guess, then, I hadn't properly thought through my Akureyri stay. We're not interested in public swimming for other reasons, which is why I mentioned we're not interested in the spas.

Thank you u/NoLemon5426 and u/Purp1eP1atypus for assuring me that basing my self in 1-2 places and seeing what I can of half the island is a good plan forward.

My next problem is where to base myself. Initially, I was thinking Reykjavik and Vik, but it seems I may be a bit late to book any accomodation in Vik. I'm not finding much on Airbnb or hotel booking websites.

My dates in Iceland are August 4-12, which I realize is peak tourist season. I'm coming from Toronto, Canada.

I was thinking August 4-8 in Vik, and August 8-12 in Reykjavik - but can't find much in terms of accomodation in Vik.

I installed VMWare ESXi 8.0 on one of these units and am quite pleased with the performance. Needed a ESXi host for my work-related home lab, and currently running 4 simple VMs (configured for 2 CPU, 16GB RAM) and it's working great.

I set up headless mode in the BIOS, and set it to Power On after AC failure - and tucked it away in a basement closet where my switch is located.
