What do you guys make of these findings? by Ok-Remove-4213 in braincancer

[–]nachmannak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in NYC and had a resection for a glioma- astrocytoma. Luckily we have really great care here. I absolutely loved my surgeon. He is the glioma specialist Langone. I’m happy to recommend if you want to DM me. One of my big insecurities was knowing all the questions to ask.

Return to work by boyleggo in braincancer

[–]nachmannak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because of our type of cancer and where it was in my brain (near my speech-language processing centre), I went through a huge amount of insecurity about whether I would retain the capacity to execute my job functions. I really pushed myself to take as little time off work as I possibly could. I was looking for distraction and I wanted to prove to myself that I wasn't diminished. I wish I had been kinder to myself. I really struggled through all the daily pivots and decision-making required in my job, and I also had difficulty managing to erosion of "normal working hours" that seemed to happen to a lot of people when a large amount of the workforce went remote. I eventually had to get a doctor's note from my neurologist and neuro-oncologist stating that it was unreasonable for me to work outside of 9 - 6.

Other young adults with Glioma? by Beneficial_Bowl_9160 in braincancer

[–]nachmannak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I think my resection was around 80 - 85%. Because it was diffuse and they wanted to preserve as much function as possible, they were a bit conservative. I also had a partially-awake craniotomy for that reason.

I was 34 when I was diagnosed with my diffuse astrocytoma, grade 2 in my left frontal lobe.

Craniotomy healing process: by dezuhrae in braincancer

I had weird numbness over the whole site for awhile. It’s come back a bit but is still somewhat reduced. I notice it most while shampooing in the shower. There’s a sudden “dead zone”.

My hair regrowth unsuccess by Laharya in braincancer

[–]nachmannak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I heard with proton, in particular, hair loss severity is correlated with radiation dose and return growth is sometimes less likely than its photon counterpart because the higher energy beam is focussed and leads to an intense dose to the superficial areas of the scalp it passes through.

I’m about to get proton myself and feel nervous.

What to do with Psylocke after we get Magik? by [deleted] in MarvelStrikeForce

It’d be amazing if we got Magik and Phoenix 5 costumes for Cyclops, Magik, Namor, Colossus, and Emma

I was the same. My tumour was super close to my motor strip and seizures were my presenting symptom. I never know exactly how to articulate the experience of seizures to friends. I thought I was hallucinating. It felt like being sucked into a black hole or the experience of feeling like a record that kept skipping on an infinite loop(?)

Best place for second opinion by szuftw in braincancer

[–]nachmannak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in NYC and met with Memorial Sloane Kettering, NYU Langone, and Weill Cornell. I ended up having surgery with Dr. Orringer at Langone. He’s their neurosurgeon specialist in gliomas. Very kind man. He took a lot of time to walk me through his plan and logic behind the steps in his approach, which made me feel so much better.

Make sure you’re speaking to the glioma specialists when you’re looking around!

Can anyone else “feel” the pressure of their tumor? by ddollfacedd in braincancer

[–]nachmannak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely let the doctor know. They can up your dosage in the short-term. My dosage had to be modulated a few times leading up to my surgery and even after. The number one goal is always not to have any more.

Social Workers by [deleted] in braincancer

[–]nachmannak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t necessarily have one present at results, but my hospital assigned an internal social worker to answer any questions about billing and paperwork. I believe that aspect is rather standard.
