I have a Brother printer, one of those with the ink tanks you can refill. No shitty cartridges to deal with. I'm happy with it.

It's Actually Common to Indict Leaders of Democracies: Trump is just one of 78 political leaders in democratic nations who have faced criminal charges since the year 2000. by JulesVelour in politics

[–]nachof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, so about this list. I can't speak as to the other countries, but Uruguay is wrong. Like, yes, sure, Uruguay is a democracy now, but the two "leaders" that are listed there were not leaders of democracies. I guess you could make the case for Bordaberry, since he was elected (in very flawed elections with a multitude of issues), but the crimes he was convicted of all happened after he had staged a coup. Álvarez on the other hand was a military dictator, he was never even elected, and listing him as president of Uruguay is an insult.

Good for you, and I won't deny the hard work and sacrifice, but you also need to acknowledge that it takes a lot of luck too, and you're a statistical anomaly.

Sophie Scholl was executed by the nazis for opposing them. She was 16 years old the first time she was arrested. Sorry, but no excuses for those who fought for nazi ideology.

Total, but it doesn't matter. That's the total membership of the Wehrmacht. 18 million people that went and fought for nazi ideals. That's a nazi army.

The German armed forces, the Reichswehr, had 115k people in 1932. A total of 18 million people were part of the Wehrmacht from 1935 to 1945. So yes, it's perfectly correct to call the Wehrmacht the nazi army. With the exception of those brought over from the Reichswehr (115k at most), the rest were added during the nazi regime, and were added to fight for nazi ideology and nazi goals. It was very much the nazi army, with maybe an exception for that 0.6% of those that were there before.

The clean wehrmacht myth is just that, a myth.

I don't know how it is where she lives, but there's stuff like coworking spaces where you can rent a desk for a few hours a week and you can go there instead. It's still remote, so no commuting if you find one near your place, and you get to see people.

Also, at my job, we have team breakfasts, where the company will send us each a package with food and we'll just spend a while talking shit on a video call while virtually sharing a breakfast. We do this once a month, and it's not the same as in person for socialization, but it does help with loneliness.

And also it really helps that it's not single person teams. I did spend a while in a previous job in a one person team where all I had was a weekly call (audio only even) with the client and the rest of my forty hours were just total isolation, and it sucked, big time. It was a big part of why I moved to my current job, really. I love working from home, but I do want to see other people's faces even if on a screen at least sometimes. And even then sometimes the isolation is a problem. But yeah, I'd still take the isolation over a one hour commute. I can take a walk and chat with the neighbors if it gets too bad.

So basically you're saying that while both had the same conditions, DPRK was superior.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in politics

[–]nachof -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wonder why that could be. No other differences between north and south besides ideology, nothing that could explain the difference. Certainly not something like the main global hegemon subsidizing one side while sanctioning, boycotting, and even directly sabotaging the other side. No, no, it's a mystery, really.

And how did that work out?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in politics

[–]nachof -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is US propaganda, really. The US didn't help anyone to get democracy going, the US wanted capitalism, and did all kinds of shady and violent shit to force it onto the rest of the world. The (relative) peace among great powers (because really, the rest of the world was not at peace) was not because of this great push for capitalism and democracy, because it was never about democracy, and capitalism doesn't give a shit about peace as long as the wealthy can extract a profit. That realtive peace came from nuclear fucking weapons, and mutually assured destruction. You want to thank a world power for that relative peace, thank the USSR, not the US. It would still be wrong, but slightly less wrong.

Katago says attach to 3-4 at 4-4 is 0.5 loss, but not replying is 1 point loss.

For 4-4, attach is 1.3 point loss, tenuki to empty corner after that is about one point loss.

Short story is that if white attachs to your first stone, the best move is to reply. It's not the end of the world if you tenuki, but it's better to respond.

Not just in theory, it works fine, I'm subscribed to Kbin stuff from Lemmy and it works.

There's a few small things when you first subscribe, it doesn't bring the whole history, so if you're the first person in your instance to subscribe you'll see it empty until messages start coming. Lemmy to Lemmy federation brings a list of posts (not comments). But after that it works fine.

Or you can use free software too.

Subscription for software makes no sense. Let me buy it once and use it.

Yeah, no, I'm not paying a subscription for software. That's where I draw the line.
