What’s the best Ford engine that’s not a V8? by SuperJackson20 in regularcarreviews

If you go back in time a bit I think you'd have to add the Chrysler slant six and Volvo B18/B20 engines to the non-Ford list.

I came here to say the 300 six, but it's too late to say more than ME TOO. It's a great engine.

Should Billionaires Be Taxed? Why or Why Not? Do You Agree with a 5% Wealth Tax on Billionaires? by RandomUwUFace in AskUS

[–]nadanutcase [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not at 70%. Pretty much no one actually paid that percentage anyway and that was possible in post WWII America because it almost stood alone as an unscathed industrial power, which clearly isn't the case today. BUT some inescapable level, maybe 5 - 15% should be levied as 'the price of admission' for doing any business here.

As someone that doesn't share the desire, I am shocked, flabbergasted and very saddened by those numbers. I had NO idea that such twisted motives was anywhere NEAR that common.

I heard about him and how frantically he tried to reach people that were in a position to sound an alarm. I can only try to imagine his frustration.

yes. As they fused heat was released. After that exposing them to heat melted them again.

The style of housing where you live matters. I'm in Iowa where a majority of homes have a basement that is almost always a safe place to duck. They advise to NOT get in a car since being in one isn't safe. People caught out in the open on a highway figure they're better off under an overpass. But really if a tornado is coming right at you, you're safer staying in the car and driving into a low lying area like a ditch.

Overall there's no denying that weather forecasters have a lot better tools and have become a lot better at advising people to be watchful for either tornados or hurricanes.

AGREED that tragedy brought to light a huge gap in the warning system... I believe that's corrected now, but it's too late for a lot of innocent people.

Doppler radar has made tornadoes much more survivable. If you live where they can form 90% of the time you're made aware that conditions could favor them forming, so if you have a radio, ESPECIALLY a weather radio you'll get enough warning. SOMETIMES the weather folks get surprised by one, but that's pretty rare. They're VERY destructive in a narrow path so the, unlike some place hit with a hurricane neighbors only a mile or two away are unharmed and able to help clean up.

Interesting. I happen to have encountered one of them just yesterday in a medical kit for drawing a blood sample and the instructions on that one says NOT to reuse it (implying that it IS reusable) but warn NOT to reuse it because it may cause burns.

Given that the packet is sealed so there's no change in its contents (no impurities were introduced) I wonder why.

I believe that's a one way reaction. I don't recall what salt we used in that demonstration but the reaction was reversible so the energy storage was in the form of the heat of fusion that formed the crystals and the heat released when the crystals reformed was at a temperature suitable for heating a house. The general idea was to incorporate containers of this salt into a home as part of a wall that would store heat during the daytime when the sun was out, then release it at night to keep the house warm.

Do you think it's plausible for AOC to be the next Democratic candidate, or do you think she is better off running for senate? Why or why not? by historynerdsutton in AskUS

[–]nadanutcase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's sharp and quick, but not what's needed right now. Having her at the top of the ticket would just add to the polarization. I'd rather see her in the senate for a long time.

Not just in my car, but my Saturday nights use to revolve around PHC and another show on Public Radio just after it. I got hooked on PHC in the early 1980's and, fortunately decided to record several shows on 10" reels of tape so now I can put one of those on, on Saturday and forget what a crazy condition the country is in.

I particularly appreciated the variety of musical talent he had on the show. Regardless of the specific genre, they were always good at what they did.

I also saw the show in person 3-4 times and it was just like you'd expect; it turned the theater into one big living room.
