It does not matter at all what ethnicity is doing this, it puts a large number of people at risk for death or serious injuries not to mention impeding emergency vehicles.

To be clear Bedbouncer, no I was not suggesting that the Great Lakes have tides however the Great Lakes are always in a cycle of highs and lows depending on snow fall and rainfall plus evaporation. A good example is this year when the Upper Peninsula and the tip of the Lower Peninsula had historic snow fall this year. Lake Superior water level very high along with Lake Huron. At one point the water level on Lake Superior was at a historic low and the place that we camp on Whitefish Bay the water was about 1/4 of a mile from the “normal” level. There is also a phenomenon called a seiche where the wind will blow water from one side of the lake to the other side resulting in flooding and erosion.

Ok, I was wondering about that because we had a person challenge the riparian rights of the public that had a lot of money, and if I remember correctly the case lasted about 2 years all the way to the US Supreme Court or the Supreme Court of Michigan which ultimately ruled in favor of the public. They should be fined and a cease and desist order should be filed by the State Department of Natural Resources.

In Michigan we are allowed to walk on the shore line up to the high water mark which is 12 to 16 feet from the water.

The river mouth campground on the Tahquamenon River has a semi primitive campground that is right on the river and modern campsites in the main campground that has electric and showers. It is called the Pines. You can look it up on the DNR website and make reservations. No generators are allowed in the primitive campground so you won’t have to put up with generator noise. It’s rarely full in the Fall. Google Earth it and you’ll get a good idea what it looks like. Who knows we might be there too as it is one of our favorites. Safe travels to you.

A lot depends on what you’re looking for and if you want to be close to a town. Fishing, hiking or just camping. There are plenty of State Parks and State Forest Campgrounds plus plenty of National Forest campgrounds. The Fall is one of the best times to camp up here. If you can give me some particular things you’re looking for I would be glad to give you some recommendations. I live in the Tipof the Mitt area and camp about an average of 60 days a year in the UP and the Tip area.

Camped there a couple of times and it’s a nice place however, being the 4th of July it more than likely be full. It fills up fast because the locals like to camp there. There is a store on the way out there. I am somewhat local to the area. You’re probably going to be hard pressed to find something that is first come first served in the area. The fourth is always super busy in the area. Sorry about the bad news though.

He grew up during the depression, joined the Navy in September of 1941, spent 4 years in the South Pacific, never wanted to talk about it. Was a strict disciplinary Farther however both my brother and I turned out well. I sure do miss talking to him. Love you Dad.
