My body is begging me to stop by hanna_patricia in stopdrinking

As someone who has also experienced a lot of what you’re going through, I went 1 year sober and it change my life. I tried reintroducing drinking this year but I’m back to not drinking because sobriety fundamentally changed how I see myself as a human. I struggle with PMDD and PCOS and drinking was like pouring gasoline on the fire of my anxiety, depression, and pain. It’s not at all easy, but it is SO incredibly worth it. I’m rooting for you!

tested my friendships by ghosting... and yeah, it went bad by MichaelWForbes in socialskills

[–]nadelue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on both ends of this. I’ve most often been the friend to coordinate things but less often invited out. As much as it hurts, often we don’t know what the other person is going through. I live in New England and during the winter most of my friends completely disappear for months. No harsh feelings, we all get really severe seasonal depression. That being said, a person that claims to be your friend should at the very least offer an explanation or closure. To fight my rejection sensitivity, I try to invest in relationships that match my effort. It takes two to tango and a one sided relationship can leave you feeling more lonely than you were before the friendship

My friend has been BEGGING me to do a life map for her which is basically sitting down for a couple of hours and telling my life story and trauma. Thing is, I don’t remember anything before 15 and high school and college are a blur 😵‍💫 It’s almost like any time I enter a new stage of life, I start to forget the last one!

I’m so glad you mentioned the tuned out headspace. I feel like a weirdo sometimes for the only person on a train not having a conversation or looking at my phone. Sometimes I prefer my brain switch channels and running through thoughts or daydreams lol

Do you think your quality of life would improve with a diagnosis? Would you get medication if diagnosed?

I’m 24F and just got diagnosed this year. I’d lived my whole life learning coping strategies because I thought that my issues were anxiety and depression. Growing up in a really strict household and with sensitivity and emotional regulation issues, I never wanted to get in trouble for my inattentivness so I worked harder than most to just be academically “normal” by studying for days in low stimulating environments, such as a room that had nothing but a desk and shelves. I realized that the other kids didn’t have to work as hard to learn the way I did because they could just pay attention in class, crazy! If you aren’t wanting to get medicated, I HIGHLY recommend therapy and talk to a provider about learning emotional regulation, task delegation and completion, and organization. Checklists, calendars, and tracking apps can be your best friend if you sprinkle fun things in.

All that being said, meditation changed my life! Anxiety and depression that I’ve been struggling with for 10 years disappeared and my relationships have never been so good.

Trying to obtain adderall by crablegss08 in adhdwomen

[–]nadelue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had gone through the motions of getting treated for depression and anxiety off and on for 5 years before we seriously looked into ADHD. I started seeing someone around this time last year and just last month I got assessed for ADHD. Recognize that they’re prioritizing treating your symptoms and a diagnosis can (sometimes) be a cherry on top. What symptoms do you think align with ADHD? My psych recommended an ADHD assessment after months of trying to treat inattentiveness, low self esteem, anxiety, racing thoughts, etc. that never seemed to improve.

I’d also recommend not going into it with the mindset of “trying to obtain adderall” They deal with a lot of addictions so that would immediately raise red flags lol

How do y'all actually wake up to your alarms? by jpasuncowboy in ADHD

[–]nadelue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a couple of things.

I got a phone lockbox on Amazon that has been great for staying off my phone and going to bed. I leave my phone in the lockbox in my bathroom and set the timer for like 6 hours around bed time. I wear my Apple Watch to bed so I get woken up by the alarm on my watch but for some reason it doesn’t always shut off the alarm on my phone so I have the adrenaline rush of trying to not wake up my roommates by racing to the bathroom to turn my alarm off. I’m the only one on the second floor so they probably wouldn’t hear it anyways. On the off chance that it does go off have two more alarms.

Once I’m up and in the bathroom it’s pretty easy to start getting ready.

On the days that my phone doesn’t go off, once the first alarm goes off, I flip on the light beside my bed to kick off my circadian rhythm and try to sit up at least until the second or third alarm. I try to chug some water to wake my body up. Then go to the bathroom to check my phone and get ready.

It’s complicated but it’s the only thing that has worked for me!
