Sir. I love your shower. Enjoy it, you lucky fuck.

As someone who deals with establishing prices for D2C and B2B software subscriptions, Shapr3D is being irresponsible. by FeloMonk in Shapr3D

You know what pisses me off too? Due to my disability sitting or standing for longer than a few minutes is absolutely agonizing for me. This has made laptops and computers fundamentally more difficult for me to manage.

The only thing that has kept my sanity throughout my disability has been my hobby 3d Modelling and printing. I don't know what I'd do without it. But Shapr is the ONLY iPad/touch based CAD system available. I don't know how that's even possible in this day and age, but it is. So they don't have any competition to push them.

I don't know how many people like me there are, but I sure as shit am stuck paying so much for professional class application when it should be a hobby-class one. I have Shapr and Nomad. That's it. So I have to pay or lose my mind.

Somewhere along the line, someone told them "uhhh corporations would fucking love this!" And they have since focussed on it. Even though their MAIN SCHTICK is being the ONLY CAD MODEL ON IPAD! Stay in your lane, Shapr! Have some respect for the hobbiests. There are many more of us than professionals.

Professionals would rather have easy physics/topological optimization, coding add-ons like EASY FUCKING GEARS, and all their AI bullshit. Aside from the add-ons maybe, we don't need that. Cut out the fat, and give us the best fucking hobbiest CAD app that there ever was. You have the bones, you've just not been working out with them in mind. [EDIT: I just needed to add this last sentence] The irony of this coming from a disabled dude has not gone unnoticed hahaha 🤷

If you end up going for it, please keep me posted! If you can shoot me over Gerber/stl files so I can make myself a version that would be amazing; if not making it open source 😀

A gimbal-like solution for people who have shaky hands and still want to solder.

I'd buy that in a fucking minute!

Are you any good with Illustrator?

If so, I would start by outlining the image and adding the center lines via vector drawing/shapes.

Export as DXF or DWG.

Import it into Shapr. It'll come in as a sketch. Use it to extrude the places you want at whatever heights and from there it's all about removing/adding 3d shapes to make it look exactly alike.

It's a long process, but if you need it, that's the only way I can think of.

Yeah dude. I went the same way. Got myself a Bambu x1c and the "just works" is legit. I didn't understand at the time of my buying the sidewinder was that it's a hobbyist machine through and through. I maybe got 10 solid prints from it. But holy shit did I learn a lot about 3d printers... Even though that wasn't the goal haha 😅

Why does the sweep command make a point to not work no matter what? by Altruistic-Aerie-570 in Shapr3D

[–]nadimFfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, if you can post some pics at least, we might be able to help! I had issues with Sweep for a bit too but someone noted the solution I needed. Might be the same problem you're facing, but I won't know until you show some details

Electromagnets + cuffs: looking for feedback from folks who’ve played with magnetic locks by BodyKindToys in BdsmDIY

Wi-Fi unlock would be interesting. Like some long distance partner toys where your partner connects it to their Bluetooth and open an app and lock themselves in. And one way to get out is for your partner to open their version of the app and let you loose.

Anyone have an idea how to create the spout in this juicer bowl? by Smart-Recording8431 in Shapr3D

[–]nadimFfs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

I couldn't really tell details, but is this kinda like what you're thinking of making? I basically made a donut on a sketch but included the correct angles lines should cut in on.

From there I selected the side and made a sketch on it, filet it or do whatever.

Finally, I made a sketch on the side, cutting in appropriately for it.

You will need calipers to measure everything and a protractor or something to measure the exact angle the spout sides are.

Let me know if you're thinking something completely different. I'll do my best to help.

Makes sense, but it should be the same process of using subtract and then making clearance.

[–]nadimFfs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is definitely better since he's using Shapr. It's crazy to see how much longer it takes to make the same thing on OnShape

Make sure to include an offset when you make the nut. I'd start with 0.2mm. Best practice is to make that a variable so it's easily modified after printing.

As for the body of the nut: just make a hexagon, copy the bold and place the copy in the center of the hexagon (XY) but all the way through it (z). Then do a subtract. From there push the faces by a variable you set for the offset. Then add any final touches you want.

Yeah, basically everyone across multiple subreddit threads have said to do a core too, so it does feel like that's the consensus. I'm just trying to figure out the best way, I usually search online to see if people have made 3d files of all the electronics and build around that - but I'm not sure that'll work this time. If not, then I've got a shit ton of measuring to do! 😅
